Winfrey randomly chose a member of the audience without Kimmel having any knowledge of what was about to happen and told the young woman that she had won a free car. Oprah reportedly told the woman to come on the stage while in the middle of being interviewed, claiming that she had been overcome by a generous spirit. Kimmel sat at his desk with a look of confusion as Oprah announced that the woman would be receiving a new car, which Kimmel knew his staff did not have on hand.
The media queen has a flair for dramatic presentations, “You, you in the blue. You right there. You. Come up here a minute. I just got that feeling. I want to say this to you. You, you get a car! You get a car!”
The audience member named Britney was ecstatic about receiving a new ride and drove home in a new Ford Fusion Energi Hybrid, which had been donated by Ford.
This not the first time Oprah has given away a vehicle to an audience member. In 2004, during the season premiere of her talk show, Oprah gave her entire studio audience free vehicles. It was covered extensively by several media outlets and is one the most memorable moments to have occurred throughout the illustrious run of her talk show.
It may be hard for some to believe that this was a spontaneous action, especially considering that Oprah has been in the news all week for an alleged racist encounter with an employee of a Swiss handbag boutique. Some think that these are just calculated publicity stunts to give “Lee Daniel’s The Butler” a boost at the box office.
