Pastor Accused of “Having Relations” with a 12-Year Old Girl in His Congregation

Gordon Solomon, a pastor at Christ’s Community Church in Los Angeles, shocked his congregation this week. The pastor was arrested for having a highly inappropriate two-year relationship with a 14-year old girl. The two had been exchanging text messages of a s****l nature for the past two years, starting when the girl was just 12-years old.
Solomon, a 50-year old man, allegedly met with the girl at various locations, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. The girl’s mother found one of the messages and called police. Police were then able to trace the pastor’s phone to determine that the conversations had been occurring for the past two years.
Pastor Solomon has been charged with seven felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child, one felony count of oral copulation of a person under the age of 14, and one felony count of s****l abuse, according to the District Attorney. If convicted, Solomon faces up to 26 years in prison. He is currently being held on $3 million bail.
Solomon is a married man and on the church’s website, he is posing with his wife. The church says that it’s goal is to “increase awareness of Almighty God and spread the word that Jesus saves.” Police say they have reason to believe that this little girl is not the only victim of Pastor Solomon’s behavior, there may be others with whom he’s interacted.
The church is a great place to find some of the most evil human beings known to man. Hiding under the cloak of the bible, some have been raised to quote bible verses like robots while committing some of the most heinous acts imaginable. What’s interesting to me is that most of us know at least one person who behaves this way, with most of us knowing quite a few. In fact, the biggest liar I’ve ever met in my life “just happens” to be the pastor of a church.
Pastor Solomon does not reflect the essence of the black church or the millions of people who are in it, but we’d be incorrect to state that such men and women aren’t all around us. The moral of the story is to be careful about those with whom you trust your children, and to realize that connecting to the body of Christ is far deeper than reciting a bunch of bible verses and asking for forgiveness every time you hurt another human being. There’s no point in seeking spiritual enlightenment if you choose to live your life in the darkness of blatant hypocrisy.

Although we are called to Fellowship as Christians.. I have to agree with you. I loved my church until they started talking about being GAY. We live under GRACE.. so it’s hard to hear my Pastor bash Gay people. I was over it and decided to build my relationship with GOD via talking to him, reading my bible and listening to Pastors I respect (and I don’t respect them all) via Word channel. I may like the message but I don’t follow the man. I follow Jesus only.

Parents are to be blamed too, why would you allow your 12year old to go out alone, without you knowing exactly where they are going, if not with you. Another problem that continues this crazy cycle is the lack of any institutional authority to hold accountable. THIS is part of the problem with Protestantism. Yes, there were historic reasons for the split, but from the Black perspective, we need to examine those reasons and how/why they were handed to us. White or Black, the Church is better served by unity and the authority that comes from such union.
As much as I disagree with the Catholic Church, their hierarchal structure provides a means for recompense. Even though the Church shuffled around pedophiles, trying to cover things us, the existence of ONE entity gave grounds for a class action suit, which forced the institution to make some adjustments. In the Black church, we can’t even find a cohesive group to stand up and say (unequivocally) that these actions are reprehensible and ABSOLUTELY NOT part of the gospel of Christ and His Church.
All of this reminds me why I hate church and how it (& people cloaked in it) preys on broken humanity coming in search of healing and wholeness…and I’m clergy myself. :-/

Refreshing commentary. Not often do you hear someone call out what is horribly wrong. I am disappointed that it does not happen more often because that is the only way to stop it. People in position of power, church officers, politicans, judges, officers of the law, only do what they do because the ‘sheeple’ allow them to. Everyone turns a blind eye because it’s easier. In the meantime, they are cheating, stealing, lying, sexing and much more. I feel no sympathy for any congregation or community who is impacted by this because someone saw what seemed strange and said nothing. Many saw what seeed strange and said nothing. The root cause of how this happened who approached who is not determined. Young girls are suggestive and seductive so please don’t assume this child was innocent. Indeed how do children have enough unsupervised time to go off and meet with an adult and have s*x of any kind? Every child molester and rapist ought to be castrated and imprisoned for life. If we gave them the death penalty, they’d likely just kill their victims. But if we made it really obvious that we severely punish severe criminal acts, Mr. Pervert might just reconsider his actions. I’d say that the guarantee of getting your testicles cut off might just deter some of these sickos.
I am so ashamed of my brother in the Gospel. I don’t know him but I am a pastor also. I won’t pass my judgement because God’s Word already has. From the Book of Genesis to Revelations God has already judged. Adultery and fornication are sins. Sin destroys and kills. My prayer is that he repents (stops)his adulterous ways and that God comforts the heart of his precious wife. I also pray t6hat the girl and her family get counseling and that all the other victims come forth and heal.
This is the most cogent and reasonable response I have read thus far. I would concur and would add only one other caveat: Erring Pastors should remove themselves or be removed by the church body from ever leading a religious body ever again in the future. Even though his retribution actually eventually lies within the Hands of the Creator, he still should be duty-bound to withdraw him or herself from continued church leadership ever in life, if he has fallen out of Grace through intercourse with any minor — especially if they are an innocent young child.
I have known of related situations of a pastor becoming inappropriately engaged with a female member during marital counseling, and when it was revealed, the church forgave him and he remained for a time although his own marriage became defunct. This is a true incident that happened to a cousin of mine. Decency demands that such people be removed from leadership at least for some protracted time — in my way of thinking. But if children are involved, the punishment warrants increased severity.
We must teach our children what to look out for and what to do.
I taught my children and when the time came about, they foiled the attempt and came to me to report the attempt.

How can a grown man be sexually aroused by a twelve year old!!?? I look at a twelve year old girl and I see a child, not someone that I want to get with. Children should be protected, not harmed. What is going on in our churches? We NEED to pray that God remove all pastors,deacons and people in authorothy in our churches from destroying our future as a people. When men/women of God are involved in destroying our children we need to rise up against them and not support them. Forgive ,but never again should they be allowed in a pulpit to benefit financially for hurting our people. And parents need to take responsibility for your children and stop giving people who call themselves pastors,deacons and elders or anybody in authourithy access To your children. It is horrifying that a grown man, regardless of his belief, would have a relationship with a pre-teen girl unless he is seriously sick mentally. He needs much prayer and professional help. One thing that sticks out in my mind is that he as a Black man is held on a 3 million dollar bond while a Hispanic man killed a teenager and is held on a one million dollar bond. Not to take away from the preacher. He needs his just due. I am just making a point. As far as parental guidance we as parents have gotten so far away from that it is sad. The primary line of defense against these preditors is in the home. As a parent, I would be embarassed to know that this man had been violating my daughter for two years. Our ancestors picked up these religious beliefs and bible concoctions from the slavemasters and their peers. They probably got brownie-points for adapting to the belief in God and Jesus, whereas many native Americans “Indians” were massacred for refusing such claptrap (among other obvious reasons). We have been infected with this fictitious “God” madness and strange as it may seem, it has done us more bad than it has good. Way too often, people come on the types of blogs and write reactionary comments, usually of a scathing and angry nature, without addressing the real issue and getting to the root of the problem. The Catholic Church as well as the Protestant, have been involved in this type of behavior for the better part of 1600 years, and have been fully aware of it in most cases. The bible speaks of and arguably condones many of the the things we as Christians and humans would find reprehensible. It’s time for us as Black (AFRICAN) People to wake up and realize the game Europeans have been playing on us for the past 1700 years. I’m grateful for my parents teaching me about pedophiles and I am in my 50s. I remember one calling my home (I was a latch key kid) and I was told that if I were to take all my clothes off and play with myself I will win a color tv. Jesus went to the Temple, and Paul etc. Just because someone sinned at church, does not give us an excuse not to go. There are plenty of God made churches, and we are all the better if we go. Just because you see a pastor on TV does not mean that he is perfect. ALL of us are striving for prefection, staying home, shows what kind of Christian you really are and you are not following the example of Jesus.

When I was a teenager and in my early twenties, I was approached by many pastors because I worked with them in youth ministries. I wore my dresses and skirts below my knees and always had on a buttoned up blouse. Nothing I wore was see-through or tight. I was ridiculed by some women in the church because I did not believe in premarital s*x. They told me I would never get a husband this way. How ignorant. I starting reporting every pastor that asked me for s*x. One was even placed in an out of state s*x rehabilitation center that the conference of the church paid for (probably with church member’s money). It was uncovered (after I dropped a dime on him) that he had been having multiple affairs with church members (including the church clerk) and their children. I felt sorry for his wife and two kids. Some of these pastors I reported were fired and/or reassigned to other jobs in other states. One particular youth pastor I was working with grabbed me to kiss me although I had just told him I was not interested in his proposition for s*x. I had to punch him in his face to get him off of me. He threatened to tell the main pastor on me. Now, how dumb was that? I had and still have no problem reporting these “unsaved” s*x hungry men. It was bad enough that my step-father talked about “sexing me” all during my childhood (and yes when I finally got the guts to tell on him, he tried to shoot me with his rifle right in front of my mother and yes I called the police and yes he went to jail)but to go to a so-called “safe haven” like church and have to deal with the same thing is extremely disappointing, sad and disgraceful!

They are taught to trust adults, and many do not know how to handle it once they are entrapped; even if they think its wrong, their perpetrators can convince them its right; then they become ashamed and fault themselves.
Somehow the real message of right and wrong in this area was inculcated correctly with you. This is what we must teach our children not only from the parents but also from the church. There are ways that message can be safely, appropriately brought across without scaring the child. It starts in the home, but we must reinforce it through the church.
