Bebe Winans has penned a book focusing on his beloved friend Whitney Houston’s Christan life.
Bebe, who’s real name is Benjamin Winans is a member of the famous Winans family, in which most members are also gospel artists. In addition to his new book, he is also starring in a new play.
In an interview with Christian Post , the Gospel and R & B singer got candid about his friend, Whitney Houston, who died earlier this year. When questioned about Booby Brown’s influence on Whitney’s life and whether he changed her, he answers:
I think to answer that correctly [you have to ask] “do people change in a relationship?” Yea, I think we all change especially in marriage. Sometimes we change because we want to and the older you get, you evolve. So the Whitney of 45 was different from the Whitney of 25.
Yet and still the honest answer for everything is [she was] grown. We respected each other’s opinions but yet and still we gave each other space because you’re an adult and you can choose to do what you want to do.
So in that freedom, Whitney, just like any of us, made some good choices and made some bad choices. But when it comes to Bobby Brown particularly, I don’t think he is deserving of any blame because Whitney – I believe I said in the book in the beginning – as sophisticated as she was, she was unruly. She was defiant. When she made up her mind, she made up her mind. So that was way before Bobby.
Were there good years? Yes. Were there good times? Yes. But in any situation, in any marriage you’re going to have dark times and bad times, and something I wrote for the wedding and sang at the wedding addressed those issues.
It sounds like Bebe loved his friend but is also very clear about who she was and he is not going to try and sugar coat the truth. It looks like the book will make an interesting read.
It may be an interesting read, yet,I believe that it is exploitative.
“Yet and still the honest answer”. There is no need Mr. Winans to use yet and still in the same sentence…a simple yet will do.
I love what he said about his friend, Whitney. He knew her well and speaks the truth about the person, the woman, The Voice.
I read stuff like Bebe needs to come out of the closet, I never ever believed it, until I just read this comment. The fact that he would sit right there and lie baffles me LOL! Bobby was the demise of Whitney, why u think Bobbi-Kristina won’t talk to him? Bebe doing this book is really sad to see. He’s showing a lack of class and brotherly love as a christian for Cissy Houston! I am sitting here like wow…really? R.I.P. Whitney, I see all the people u helped, don’t have checks coming in anymore, so they’re exploiting ur name for a profit.
Really ..Winans?…why did you get booted off of SUNDAY BEST?…did someone right a book about YOU?…You wouldnt say these lies to Whitney prior to Feb..then why are you writing a book?…do you realize you are motivated by GREED?….Shame, I thought you were going to be decent, but instead you are hiding behind your own shortcomings…stealing from Whitney and talking against her …What part of RIP do you not get? I heard something recently really bad about you, but I put God first and never told anyone, altho I would think the tale is true..its called gossip…very disapointed about you and your sis …you guys are bogus to wear a chip on your shoulder looking down you nose to peeps..SHAME ON YOU…WILL NEVER BY THE BOOK nor your new album thats pattened by WHitney’s successful rendition of patriotic masterpiece..You are using her even while she is in heaven..just disgusting.
Are you serious right now?? Who are you to say he is lying?? FACT: He knew her better than any person on this post did. I dnt see anything negative in what he said and the fact is SHE WAS GROWN. Bobbie didn’t force her to do anything that she didnt want to do. And as soon as you typed that you “heard something” was the moment you became a gossip.

@tarrence , well said. I could not agree with you more.
God bless Whitney and may she rest in peace. I didn’t know Whitney personally, but when her struggles became public, I prayed for her; Whitney was gifted and had a lot more to give. She sanged like no other. And her death caught us by surprise and was unexpected; particularly, when she was trying so hard to make a comeback. (In fact, I can’t wait to see Sparkle.) While I do not know Be-Be or Bobby personally either, in general, it is my thinking that you don’t encourage nor participate in those type of activities or any other harmful activities with the ones that you love.
I agree with Terrance and I am going to have to come to Be-Be defense!
Whitney was a grown woman and Be-Be is not the only one of her friends that was honest and stated that Whitney was into/doing drugs LONG before she met Bobbi! Some even said that they did drugs without her before he even came into the picture. Bobby was a drinker/drunk and from all I have read Whitney was a drug abuser. No one can make, entice or cajole you into doing something you absolutely do NOT want to do!
He stated that he wrote to book to help his grieving and I am NOT going to dispute that. I am not in his mind.
I wish him the best and I plan to download on my Kindle.
Be-Be I want 2 say thank you. I can now move forward. This was harder for me 2 get through than Luther & Michael. I had a problem with her sayin that she loved Bobbie Christina so much that she didn’t stick w/the help she so desperately needed!! So I cry 4 the child she left behind. I look 4ward 2 the BOOK!!
THIS STATMENT SOUND VERY REAL TO ME! I AM PRONE TO BELIEF!
She was not forced by anyone to take drugs, but being that Bobby has that behavior in his background, everyone assumes, it was he who got her started. Whitney was using drugs prior to meeting Bobby, and slowly lost control of her ability to hide her drug abuses, he just happened to be married to her at the time….I will not buy the book, leave her and Bobby alone…..
