Mother Leaves Her Kids on the Side of the Road to Search for God and is Found Dead
Police say they found a woman who left her kids on the side of the road to go look for God. The mother’s body was found near a river. According to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, Lamona Fields Bender took her kids’ clothes off, leaving her five year old and two year old in the car. The children were found two miles away from the car, and told police that their mother had gone to “look for God.”
Police went on a massive manhunt to find the woman, who left carrying a bible and wearing a pair of sunglasses. Her body was found two miles from the Coosa River entrance 10 feet under water. Police have not yet released the cause of death, but think that it was a suicide.
“Her body was found near her shawl and bible,” said Elmore County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Ogden. “We believe her body had been there for no more than 12 hours.”
Police say there is no evidence of foul play and no weapon was found. At the time of her disappearance, Bender was under severe emotional distress. Her relatives said that she’d been going through a tough time. Her sister Mashika Ezell said that Bender was behavioral.

Everybody is behavioral. But I understand her pain.
You got no family, no friends, no one to turn to, and churches are beating you up with metaphysical pie in the sky bullshyte that means absolutely nothing; but they get your head twisted up about what you are doing here and why you’re in situations.
Then, you have no reason to keep hanging on and just throw in the towel.
That’s one of the reasons people need to get away from these religions, especially Christianity. None of it has anything to do with God, but boy do people believe that c**p.
Wow! You absolutely have NO IDEA what you’re talking about. Everyone is not behavioral but everyone does have problems. This young lady seems to have gotten stressed about too many things, BUT her relationship with God and/or her church has nothing to do with that. There are things called delusions and demonic forces that cause people to do and say many things. But that is not a reflection on Christianity or anything close to it. Know your facts before you make erroneous comments.

Religions (not God) are responsible for either, creating, facilitating, or enabling mental illness with a lot of delusional mumbo-jumbo, and overly-judgmental BS. What these faiths need is to get with the behavioral sciences quickly and start finding solutions to many of their poor or struggling members with real issues in the here-and-now to deal with.

Evidently she didn’t know how to pray and “wait” on God. She took action into her own hands. Some of you people are leaning on your own understanding instead of trusting in God. Being a christian doesnt make you religious. It makes you a believer in GOD.

I do believe in GOD. Why because for me, it give me a sense of peace and keeps me in check when it matters. Am I a backslider, yes. Am I AWLAYS honest, NO. But I will pay for my sins when the time comes.

I seem to remember in the book of Acts at the time of the apostles that deacons were selected to attend to the everyday needs of the congregation. Where is this today? Needs are not only preaching to the people. Lets not forget that an account will have to be given about ‘the little flock’ that we are put in charge of. Too much emphasis is put on how much we have to boast in and this treasure cannot and will not save anyone or get us into the kingdom of God.

I agree with you. When people are told they need God and can’t find him/it when they are at their wits end will take drastic measures. This woman probably was stressed with two kids, and probably had little family support because she was “behavioral”. People need tangible things and critical thinking in this world, not a white unicorn.

All women do NOT have children. I’ve never had one. Chose a career instead. Not everyone is suited to being a parent (either mother or father) and those who are not should find something else to do. I thought you didn’t have to search for God. If he obviously knows everything then he knew the woman would leave her children in search of him. WHERE THE HECK WAS HE? Maybe he wanted her dead and her children abandoned! Or just maybe God doesn’t exist and is just a figment of a strong imagination.
No-one is saying being a Mother is easy, but instead of filling this woman’s head with all the bullshit about a savior who will solve all her problems if only she believe and actually help her with her situation she would not have gone off looking for a non existent God and realized her help has to come from down here and not UP THERE!
I pray that God takes her into his loving arms and erases away all her pain. It’s a terrible thing to feel so lost and hurt that a mother would take her children with her on such a journey. Emotional pain and heartache is something that goes so deep and hurts so bad that you don’t know how much more you can bare, I know such pain and I pray often for God to help me get to the other side before I explode.
I’m glad the children were not physically harmed, and I pray that they; find it in their hearts to forgive and live in spite of this situation.
I pray that her wishes will come true for her children. These are not easy times here and you never know what one person is going through until you speak to them.

This dear young woman was ill. Christianity, which meant to follow Jesus Christ, does not make us ill but religious fanaticism does. AndI would guess that fanaticism exists among followers of members of all religions.

It’s sad but this disease strikes many young African American women during their child bearing years and Dr’s pass it off as postpartum depression, smh.. Schizophrenia strikes people of all races and both genders, generally in late teens or twenties. And this does not sound particularly like schizophrenia. There are quite a few mental illnesses which have psychotic features and delusions. Schizophrenia is just one of them.
This who thing is not about religion. It’s about mental illness. She was obviously looking to her religion or the Bible to give her some relief from the pain that she was suffering. And she was obviously delusional. This is about someone clinging to something to get some answers, some peace. Was she a religious fanatic? Maybe. Was she looking for help from just about every possible source? Probably. WAs she damaged, tortured? You bet.
I have a sister who is schizophrenic. She is not like this woman at all. Of course, whatever this poor woman was suffering from, she certainly didn’t seem to be on medication.
Whatever – the point is, this is not a black or white issue, and it’s not necessarily about religion either. What it is about is mental illness, and mental illness doesn’t distinguish between races or genders.
at times us single women just don’t know how to find help when we are drowning in despair/depression. sometimes religion makes it worse for depressed people who need human support someone to talk to to lend a helping hand emotional support. I know this all to well. Going threw allot my self right now with having cancer and struggling with 2 kids. I wish someone would have truly reached out to this woman or she would have reached out to someone that cared. i pray for her children.

STOP BLAMING RELIGION!! The circumstances of this young woman’s life is a tragedy. A tragedy that someone feels so helpless and hopeless to leave their children in a car to go off and commit suicide. Maybe she was so desperate and despondent that she felt only God could help her. The world is a very difficult place to be. Single motherhood is a daily grind. And it can be overwhelming without the support of the other parent or support from family and friends. May this lost soul find peace. May her children find someone to care and love them.

It is sad to read some of the comments that are posted here by non-believers. People need to be very careful of how they speak against God’s anointed. Surely, whatsoever you sow, that you shall also reap. I have a daughter who recently was struck by mental illness. Not that I was speaking against anyone with it. But out of no where, she became ill. It is a very painful and heart wrenching thing to see your child go through. It is not only painful for the person experiencing the sickness, but painful for the family as well. People we bless God with our mouth one minute and curse man with it the next. This ought not be so. God has commanded us to love one another as we love ourselves. We are created in His image. The problem with so many people today is that they can’t love others because they don’t really love themselves. It takes the love of Christ and the infilling of the Holy Ghost, to love people unconditionally. So until they have that road to Damascus experience, they will continue to find fault in Christianity and towards those in the Body of Christ. This woman was influenced by demonic activity, and demons are real; because a lot of them are talking through this post today. So as a believer, you have to look over people because they know not what they do. All you can do is give them what the word of God says and pray for them. I’m no where near perfect. This is horrid. The poor woman and her children must of really been having a terrible time in their lives. If her family knew this, why didn’t they do something? There is a thing called the Baker Act, it is used for situations such as this to get a person into a psychiatric facility where they can get help and not injure themselves or others. My own brother killed himself. Let me tell you, if I even hear someone saying they want to die or life isn’t worth living etc, I listen to them!! If they say they are GOING to kill themselves, I do not hesitate for a minute to call 911.

It is obvious that this young woman was dealing with a great deal of pain and confusion. Since we do not have the facts, we should pray for her and the people that she has left behind. We don’t know what her beliefs were or the nature of her illness.
You can not blame religion, parents and/or her situation. We need information and to be more observant of our family and friends. Say something, ask questions, help them to seek help. Agree to disagree without judging the fellow respondents.

My prayers go out to the children and family of this woman. What happened is very unfortunate. We all need to get our own soul’s salvation in order while we are so busy guessing the condition of other people’s soul. And, while I am Christian, many people in and of the church do refuse to study to show themselves approved unto God; workmen, not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Too many people are professing to be Christian; but, has no knowledge of the Word of God. How can we serve a God who we are refusing to get to know for ourselves. The Pastor, alone, is not responsible for our knowledge of Scripture. We need to own a Bible, read and learn it; and, live according to what we learn. We need to stop mocking God by shaming the church. This way, people who are not Christian will not wonder why we are so hypocritical. How can we preach to others what we are not–ourselves doing yet???

Maybe, she knew she was going to commit suicide/kill herself and did not tell her children using those words, but stated her actions to them that way. “I’m going to look for God.” with Bible in hand to confess her sins before taking her life. Misguided yes based on there is no confession after suicide which is murder. Either way whatever church you visit,or religion you claim. God is God accept him you don’t have to visit church or claim a religion to do that. Which ever blows your hair back, and it is more than obvious for some negativity is what makes your hair blow in the wind.
