Dr. Boyce & Yvette: Roland Martin Calls for Obama Accountability Among Black Leaders – Too Little, Too Late?

In this video, Dr. Boyce Watkins and Yvette Carnell discuss Roland Martin’s call for black leaders to start holding the Obama Administration accountable.  They ask if it’s too little too late, since many African American public figures were making these remarks years ago.  African Americans are left wondering if the Obama Administration takes the interests of the black community into the same consideration that they take those from gay rights groups, women and Latinos.

  1. Great post

  2. Dr. Boyce and Yvette… I’ve respected and appreciated your objectivity about Barack Obama. He has betrayed our community (African American) and deserves not to be re-elected. Indeed, I will not vote for him and no one in my family will. Relative to Roland Martin, why waste your time talking about a guy who has the limited intellect that Roland has demonstrated. CNN hires people based on aesthetics and acting ability and that is all that Roland brings to the table.

    Peace

    • John, I disagree with you that Yvette and Dr. Watkins have been objective in regard to Pres. Obama. I only read judgmental statements and comments. I have yet to read or hear anything positive from these two in that regard. To be objective is to be independent of the mind and without bias and dealing with facts without distortion by personal feelings or prejudices (Webster, 2004). You, sir, are not objective and if you refuse to vote either way, you are defeating the purpose of what our people have long fought for. If Romney wins because people refuse to vote, we will be subjected to more cuts in social programs such as our educational system, HUD and others that were placed in order to assist the American people. I don’t understand where you are coming from by stating that Pres. Obama has betrayed the Black community; in what way? I may not agree with everything he has done or attempted to do but he is the best man for the job at this point. would you rather have Romney as your president? A man so far removed from the American people that he doesn’t have clue how the common people live and try to survive?

      • Sistah, thank you for properly putting into what I can only seem to cuss about at times. My written vocabulary is atrocious so I always appreciate it when a sistah calls it like it is in such a professional a responsible manner. I completely agree and thanks again.

    • I do not agree with either you or Roland when it comes to President Obama; he is the President for all people and has governed accordingly and will be elected resoundingly whether you vote for him or not. I bet you revered George Bush. As it relates to Roland’s intelligence I have to say, you don’t come across very intelligent yourself.

      • I agree with Alberta. Why do we believe that President Obama should have a separate agenda for African Americans? He was elected to be president for all Americans, however because he is African American, we feel he should do more for us. And what if her were Hispanic Amaerican or Asian American, should they expect an agemda for their group?

        • It was okay for him to have a separate agenda for the gays and illegal immigrants, but not the black communities. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Obama is challenging GOD, who destroyed cities for their abominations. (sleeping w/ strange flesh) You people would rather serve Obama than GOD. Many of you attend church but won’t read the Bible for yourself, or haVE denied it’s validity. Gay relations is an attack of God’s creation. Depopulation is these elites aim, for we know 2 men or 2 women can produce children.

LET GOD BE TRUE AND EVERY MAN A LIAR!!!

        • correction: ….”can’t” produce children

    • Let’s give the President another term to see what he can and will do. Historically more happens during the second term than the first, and President Obama has done a lot more for the good of our country -which includes the African American community – than if the other party had won four years ago. If the other person is voted in by your lack of participation in this voting year, things will be a LOT worse for ALL peoples in this country who are not very wealthy and visible. Remember – if you don’t vote you are giving a free vote to the other person! Our country – and definitely our children – will pay for your inaction for years to come! Too much is at stake in this election – let your intentional vote – for our present President – be counted! D

    • Betrayed by a**. So who you gonna vote for that’s going to make it all better. Your attitude is the very reason black people don’t have s..t, never will have s..t or be s..t. I bet every month you can’t wait to get your welfare or unemployment check. You first need to understand who a President is and what he can do and can’t do. What has he done for the Latinos? What has he done for the Gays? What has he done for White people? What good is it to address the issues facing Black people if nothing can be done about it? I guess everyone is expecting him to make a bunch of promises to Black people that he knows d**n well he can’t keep. h**l, he can’t get anything passed through Congress to help White people or this country as a whole. Just what is he supposed to do for Black people that would make you happy? Go ahead don’t vote for him, vote for the other guy and see what that gets you. Typical n***** mentality; you don’t mind being screwed as long as it’s not another n***** doing it.

    • @Peace, are you kidding me…you can’t be an african american, talking about not voting for Obama because he has “Betrayed the African American Community” he is the PRESIDENT OF THE US NOT THE PRESIDENT OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY. We are not supposed to agree with everything a president does or says. Do you really think that the Republicans are not going to continue the support of a “WHITE PRESIDENT” come on now, there was at time we couldn’t vote at all, but, I guess you and your family are all of that and a bag of chips..People like you and your family is what keeps us seperated..the other races of people support each other without a doubt. You sound stupid!

    • John:

President Obama has been a great disappointment to the Black community. Will I vote for him again ? Absolutely. Look at the alternative. We must hold our elected politicians as well as ourselves for not holding this president accountable. We neglected to act from a position of power in demanding our political rewards for supporting him unequivocally in his quest for the white house.

Those black folk (including myself) who began to call Mr. Obama “out” almost from the beginning of his reign, were castigated by our people, described as crabs in a barrel, and cursed out. I stayed the course along with others who looked at his treatment or neglect of Black folk with a jaundiced eye.

I will go to the polls on election day, vote for a second term for President Obama, and hope that my fellow Black Americans will join me in DEMANDING that he pay his outstanding political debt to US! Please join me in raising your voice for equality from the President. Our wait should be over… ITS TIME WE CALL IT LIKE IT IS!

      • Brotha, its sad when I come to a site championed by you NOT to hear you but to read and discuss topics with everyone else. Disagreeing with you isn’t castigating you. How dare you accuse people of being caught up and not being able to see Obama for what he is…..but YOU saw it and have been saying whatever it is you have been saying all along. Because we all know that only Boyce can see it. The rest of us are simply sheep.

“President Obama has been a great disappointment to the Black community.”

Says who? You? Show me where he has disappointed the community. I should be able to see a manifestation in some way of such an accusation. And it has to be something he didn’t do that he could have single handedly changed without opposition and it would have made ALL the difference for the black community. Show this to me? Nah, I doubt you can. But what you will see is a few people criticizing in order to get people to come and comment on their site and drum up traffic……

Ahhh. I see what you’ve done. Well played Doc.

        • bahati sobukwe

Thank you K. Davis. I’m worn out from trying to reason with ‘negroes’. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that many black people simply cannot do critical thinking. Therefore, I’ll just read what people who can reason try to get over to them. Good luck with that.
I do want to know why these same people failed to hold all those past white presidents accountable. They could literally eat Clinton sh-t. He was their first black president. He insulted Sistah Soulja, he sent the Haitians back, he reformed welfare using blacks as the ones who needed reforming, his NAFTA is why all of the jobs are out of the country-and they have no manufacturing jobs–, he let the Rwandans slaughter each other without doing anything about the war, etc. etc. But, I never heard any of these ‘negroes’ talking about holding Clinton accountable. What is it about President Obama’s black face that make them want to hold him accountable. I want them to tell me what on earth do they want from the President in this environment that he is trying to be President. We are some sick people!
Watkins is trying to drum up hits on his site.

  3. why are those white billionaires pledging 100 million dollars individually to the romney campaign to defeat president obama?

don’t they know there are two people in the black community who are working harder than those white racist tea-baggers to manipulate the minds of black and white people to stay home for the next election to make obama a one term president?

yes..i’m talking about the undercover mercenaries..boyce and yvette.
wouldn’t it be much cheaper for those racist white billionaires to send their money to boyce and yvette instead of those super pacs?

if they buy boyce=yvette, they wouldn’t have to pay them very much. h**l…boyce and yvette would probably work for free to defeat obama due to their self hatred and jealousy for obama…which they don’t seem to have for romney. could there be a reason for nothing negative to say about romney…makes you wonder!

    • Mustafa, I agree with you. I know I have said several times that I was seriously thinking of unsubscribing to this website but I do read comments from people who do have some sense. Yvette and Dr. Watkins, for what ever reason, fall into that category of people who are full of self-hatred. Dr. Watkins also degrades Rev. Sharpton and Dr. Harris-Perry every chance he gets. Would it be because MSNBC didn’t offer him a show? I bet if a show was offered to him, he would jump on with a resounding, Yes suh boss! I have little patience for people who don’t think for themselves. You, my friend, are certainly not one of those!
      Peace

      • yes suh boss…lol, that was a good one.

some people are blind to boyce and his alternative motives.

notice how he never criticize cnn..i wonder why?

is it because they allow him to come on periodically as the angry black man? fox banned him when he called joan williams a happy negro, can’t go there.

as you said, msnbc didn’t hire him and they never invite him on as a guest. now he attacks every black person on msnbc instead of the white folks who made the decision not to hire him.

therefore, boyce is now full of hate and jealousy due to not being considered a high profile black leader.

boyce wants to be a national black leader, but being the leader of ybw and appearances on cnn are his only accomplishment to validate being a black leader…and it’s driving him coocoo!

      • I couldn’t agree with you more. It truly amazes me at how utterly stupid some people can be. Boyce Watkins, Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Roland Martin, Eric Dyson and the rest of these supposedly educated scholars are just a bunch of jealous Negroes who’s ego’s far exceed their intelligence and common sense. They do far more damage in keeping Black people down than any white person or society could do. I have no respect for any of them.

        • Larry Pinkney from The Black Commentator on Obama:

This is a man who has enjoyed the fruits of America at the blood and expense of Black Americans and others, but who has paid virtually no dues.

This is a man whose father had also enjoyed the fruits of university schooling in America but subsequently returned to his native Kenya.

This is a man, who also like his father before him, neither served in a branch of the US military nor in any organization in America opposed to US military adventurism.

This is a man who as a deeply corporate military industrial complex US Presidential candidate, has called for “unilateral” US military actions in other nations. [And why not? After-all, his father, himself, or his wife and children were not and will not be the ones killing and being killed.]

This is a man who, in Chicago, pretended to support the human rights of the Palestinian people but who is now known to be a huge supporter of the apartheid Zionists and their powerful and insidious political lobby in America.

This is a man who dares opportunistically to feign admiration for the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but does not share the collective memory, pain and deep concerns of Black America, other people of color, or even of numerous white Americans for that matter – in the ongoing struggle for equality and justice in this nation.

This is a man who has de facto contempt for the past supreme sacrifices made by thousands of activists from so-called “militant” organizations such the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU), the Student National Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Black Panther Party (BPP), Students For A Democratic Society (SDS), the American Indian Movement (AIM), the Revolutionary Action Movement (RAM), etc.

This is a man who is silent about the need for reparations for Black American descendants of slaves and the genocide of the indigenous so-called “Indian” peoples on this continent. He is the consummate opportunist who, in reality, cares nothing about the horrors inflicted upon Black, Brown, and Red peoples in this nation, and has repeatedly signaled that he plans to inflict even more “unilateral” military horrors upon various nations and peoples of the world.

This man, Barack Obama, is but a more articulate, younger, and shinier version of the current and infamous US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, adorning himself dangerously and abundantly in superficiality and double-speak.

    • bahati sobukwe

      Well said!

  4. mustafa,

you say if they buy boyce and yvette they would not have to pay very much.

you assume they aren’t already bought!

  5. Pastori Balele

Hi! Fellow Blacks – Open up and you will be surprised about Romney -you want to vote for. Do you know Romney, like Bush, would let Bin Laden and Yemen guy live because Mormon religion says so? Do you know Romney wants buddy with Scott Walker that women be paid less than men doing the same job? Are American women dumb? No. Do you know Romney, like many GOPers, hates Latinos and Blacks? You have never seen Blacks at Romney rallies. All people attending Romney rallies are Whites. Do you know Mitt shipped his money to create jobs in Switzerland – leaving his fellow Americans on welfare? Do you he is now saying he will bring back his money to be borrowed by small businesses. That is a lie. Do you know he used state patrol uniform to terrorize motorists when young? Do you know he jumped on fellow classmate suspected to be gay, cut his hair and banging his head? Do you know he said “corporations are people my friend?” Do you know he said: “poor people is their problem?” Do you know Mormons are litigating case that man should be allowed to have more than 1 wife if gays are allowed to marry? Do you know Romney attended Mormon ceremony after entering the WH race? Do you know Romney father is in Mexico – at a Mormon ranch with several wives? Did you see Romney family all in uniform during rallies-creepy? And you want to vote for Romney? No. Let’s vote for a courageous man in White House – President Obama.

  6. This is more about us than it is about Obama. People need to understand that.. Its not about being jealous or bitter over Obama… It isnt about any self hatred…

If you listened to the commentary, it is about waking the black community up to the real world. We made a deal with the president when we selected him. He needs to fulfill his end of the deal. Other groups have themselves an agenda, and they speak up to the politicians when their agenda isnt met. Even the Tea Party does this. They ‘throw the bums out’ when they fail to get a return on their deal.

This isnt some celebrity TV show.. Politicians need to be held accountable to the public. They wont help you if you do not MAKE THEM. This includes the President.

Seems to me that Dr Boyce and Ms Carnell are simply stating that fact, and urging the community to be more demanding of their politicians, especially this president who owes a great deal to this community for his election.

    • Rasheed,
Black folks did not put the president in office. The American people did. If every Black person voted for Pres. Obama, there still would not be enough votes from us to put him into office. what deal did he make to us that he did not keep? Can you elaborate on that? Do you not understand that everything he tries to do, he is met with a roadblock by Congress? I don’t even see the Democratic party coming to his aid. Personally, I don’t know why he even wants the headache of another term. Black folks need to be more demanding of themselves and stop waiting for the government to bail us out. What does he owes us, may I ask? Because he’s Black, he owes us? What do we owe ourselves? Think about it.

      • Reply to Dr. Lorraine

“Black folks did not put the president in office. The American people did.”

What? We arent American people too? Black folks voted for this president to the tune of about 98%. He didnt win the majority of the white vote… I dont see White people walking around with Obama&Michelle pins on their clothes.. When I go to white people’s houses, I dont see pictures of Barack Obama next to Jesus. This community did indeed put this president into office….We didnt do it by ourselves and I never implied that. But Iam implying that the president attached himself to us in order to win and we accepted him… Now he has to show where he is different

“what deal did he make to us that he did not keep? Can you elaborate on that? Do you not understand that everything he tries to do, he is met with a roadblock by Congress?”

Man… Where do I start.. First of all, he gave off the impression that he was gonna ‘change’ Washington. But let me be specific about what I do not like.

*The NDAA.. He signed this authorization which gives him the power to detain ANYONE (even US citizens) without due process.. WTF is that about? That practically destroys our whole system. No more posse comitatus?? That is a direct betrayal of the public trust.. Thats something George Bush would have done. He cant blame anyone but himself for that.. He signed the bill even as he admitted he had problems with it… He is supposed to be a constitutional scholar… He knows better than to sign that thing into law. No excuses.. He should have vetoed that bill.. Even if they all overrode him, he should have still done what was right regardless.

*He reauthorized the patriot act (and various other wiretapping laws). He officially gave himself power to kill people with drones (even American citizens)… Hey did you know that drones are coming to the United States? They will be using them in local police depts soon enough.

*His failure to stand up to the banks has cost all of us.. His failure to stand up to the republicans has also cost us..The republicans become more emboldened each day. I live in Philly and they are destroying the school system while giving their friends tax breaks. They plan to sell the districts off to for profits companies..

Congress fought with him and alot of domestic issues, but you cannot blame them for his foreign policy (which is GWBIII type stuff). Congress fights with him, because they know he’ll fold. Everyone in Washington is talking about the “Grand Deal”. These politicians wanna do a GRAND DEAL where they rob & loot the public for their medicare in exchange for tax cuts. Middle class and poor cannot afford this GRAND DEAL at our expense. Obama is for this deal. HE has been for some other bad deals also.

*They still do renditions (where they kidnap people and take them to foreign countries)

He has been blocked by congress, but that isnt an excuse. He doesnt have to win every fight…h**l he could lose most of them… BUT HE HAS TO ACTUALLY FIGHT.

The republicans are fighting.. they arent under any illusions about what it will take to bring the president down. He needs to take that same mindset in support of those who helped out him there. I aint mad that he has other constituencies. Hispanics, Gays, Jewish folks, the whole middle class.. But we are one of his groups of supporters, and black need to stop being scared of that.. We are here and we need his assistance too, and if he cannot help, we dont need to support him. That’s the way politicians and the public are supposed to interact.

“Personally, I don’t know why he even wants the headache of another term.”

^Because he is a politician. This is what they do. They run for office. He’s not as helpless as you make him out to be..

“Black folks need to be more demanding of themselves and stop waiting for the government to bail us out.”

^that is the whole point to the video.. We dont need politicians who dont have our community as an interest. I think once black people wake up and stop making excuses for themselves and this president, they will see the light…

This is about US more than it is about the president. I wholeheartedly agree with anyone who says black folks need to get themselves together ON ALOT OF LEVELS.

        I totally agree..

But right here in this article we are talking about the political aspect of that problem.. We need to hold our “leaders” accountable to the promises they make when we selected them

“What does he owes us, may I ask? Because he’s Black, he owes us? What do we owe ourselves? Think about it.”

^He owes us because we voted for him. Many people even gave him money.lol. If he owes us nothing, then I see no reason to vote for any of these guys (including him).

If we walk around acting like we expected nothing from? thats exactly what we’ll get…. Like I said earlier… Even those knuckleheads in the Tea Party understand this. They understand that politicians are supposed TO WORK FOR THEM. Not the other way around.

that wise old saying says “You get the government you deserve”

When we understand that? we’ll demand better from our so called “leaders”

        • I really hate it when people think they’re smart by repeating what they’re heard people say. The GOP is great at that. The things you’re saying is non sense and I’ve heard the same thing many times and it’s still stupid. It’s a form of brainwashing and people with weak minds fall for it. I see you’ve fallen for it. It’s the Fox News only agenda. Say it enough times and people begin to believe it. Stop listening to these fools and do the research for yourself. I promise you’ll come up with some different answers.

          • No James…

What Im saying is true… and you cant refute any of it.. that is why didnt even try…

I dont watch FOX, and these arent republican talking points.. Republicans love it when Obama does power grabs like NDAA.. That means more power for them when they get back in office.

Put your head and pretend it isnt true if you want, but that wont change the reality…

I think YOU need to do some research. James… I have already done mine.

            you need to wake up

          • I will re-iterate.

I have a HUGE problem with President Obama OR ANY PRESIDENT signing bills that take away due process for Americans, and giving this military industrial complex MORE lee-way to kill people across the globe unilaterally.

AND YES, I was the same BEFORE Barack Obama became president.. h**l, I wanted GWB and Cheney prosecuted for war crimes, and I was upset when President Obama gave them a free pass and decided against prosecuting them. I understand crooks dont prosecute other crooks… Its a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ among incoming and outgoing presidents, but I dont care..

            Please respond…

          • @James:
It looks like Rasheed7 has done the research to me. Its just that many refuse to hear any criticism whatsoever re the prez & accuse anyone who disagrees w. him or his policies as haters or right wingers. U show a whole list of ppl in a previous post that u consider haters becuz they challenged Obama. Many were around wayyyy before Obama came along engaged in services to help our community. Obama is a politician & they r the biggest prostitutes there r! They will say or do almost anything to get elected. They only have ur interest at heart unless it serves their n some way. This is not the type of person that I would choose to be adoring of, especially when there is so much at stake. I don’t care if he’s black, purple or blue.

        • agree with a lot of what you said, don’t have a problem with you, boyce yvette being critical of obama to hold him accountable if it’s justified. no one is disputing that analysis.

but it’s another thing to criticize obama to encourage black people to stay home for the next election knowing that decision will help romney win against obama. no logical black person can say romney is better for black people over obama!

there is a difference in criticizing and holding obama accountable with an understanding we must still vote regardless of party (fair, nothing wrong with that!)

but to manipulation to encourage black people to not vote for obama in the next election (which is what boyce and yvette have been doing for awhile now) is evil, wrong and reeks of self hatred!

          • @ Mustafa

            Agreed

Im not the guy telling you to stay home because the hard fact is that it can get worse..

President Obama is the lesser of 2 evils and that narrows our choices…

Regardless of that though, We need to step up in regards to not just the president, but all the politicians we select to represent us. Right now they represent the banks and the corporations at our expense.. Austerity is their way and they are robbing blind and selling the place right from under us.

I hope everybody heard Scott Walker’s message to those white people in Wisconsin… He said “Im buying the election”

Mitt Romney is saying the same thing “Corporations are people too my friend!”

But we still have a role as citizens… This place wont run if stop cooperating. If black people (even on a small local level) spoke by withholding their dollars and support? Alot of these politicians would hear alot faster.

To be honest, its gonna take more than just the black community to solve this problem… Its gonna take all those communities working together as if this were a CLASS WAR. Because that is what it actually is… it’s a class war, and most of us are in the same boat.

If we act like it, and stand together, we’ll have a much better chance of succeeding

        • Great great post Rasheed7! R ppl r sooooo brainwashed when it comes to Obama! It is sheer insanity to fall n love w. a politician. Its comparable to a prostitute falling n love w. her pimp. Every other grp is getting what they need except us. When u challenge that, all u hear is that the prez is the prez of all Americans, not just African Americans. Well aren’t we Americans! Also, if we should be doing everything for ourselves, as many suggest, & never asking our representatives for anything, then why support them n the first place. Apparently many r content w. only platitudes fr Obama, such as Al Green songs. That is why we r ignored & disrespected by him & a laughingstock to all! “Take off ur bedroom slippers & put on ur marching shoes”. Unfortunately, we will not learn these hard lessons until it is too late.

        • Rasheed, I did not imply that we are not Americans, that was your interpretation. Yes, Pres. Obama is a politician and yes the goal is to be re-elected; however, I am so tired of people like yourself blaming others for the ills of their own lives. He didn’t make this mess. I guess he owes white people too because they voted for him huh? Why is it when a black person makes strives in their lives, they owe us, I don’t get it, yes, I do agree we should hold all people in office accountable but why blame him for the ills of the world. d**n if he does and d**n if he don’t. We are regressing as a people and it’s frighteming,

          • Reply to Dr. Lorraine

“Rasheed, I did not imply that we are not Americans, that was your interpretation. ”

^You said ‘Black folks did not put the president in office’…..

You sound like you are trying to diminish the contribution made by black folks in helping this man get elected.. If you are trying to say ‘We didnt do it alone” then yeah, I agree… But I dont agree with any attempts to downplay lengths to which many black folks (as well as some other groups) went to help this person get elected. I also do not buy the idea that we should be quiet and not rock the boat because we are scared of the republicans will say, and we are scared of what white people will think… I dont buy the whole “Im scared” line of thinking. what are we? A bunch of lepers? We need to stay out of sight or people will bash the president?… I dont like that at all, and I dont buy it for 1 second

“Yes, Pres. Obama is a politician and yes the goal is to be re-elected; however, I am so tired of people like yourself blaming others for the ills of their own lives.”

            ^That doesnt make any sense..

You say you understand that he is a politician..but yet you seem adverse to holding him accountable (which is MANDATORY when it comes to ALL politicians). You seem to be coddling the president. He doesnt need it. He is not helpless…

If you truly understand that he is a politician, then you should be able to understand why we need to hold him accountable.

“He didn’t make this mess. I guess he owes white people too because they voted for him huh?”

^Yeah, he didn’t make this mess, but he ran and was elected to clean it up….. I grow tired of all the excuses.. And YES he also owes the white people who voted for him.. People didnt vote for him just for the h**l of it. & People didnt JUST vote for him. They also gave their money and time to his campaign also. They didnt do all that for free

“Why is it when a black person makes strives in their lives, they owe us, I don’t get it”

????? I dont understand where you get this idea… Its not like he is some business man/entrepreneur capitalist who came up on his own, and made his money and now Im out begging for a handout from him “Obama HOOK A BRUH UP MAN! YOU GOT ALL THAT MONEY MAAAAAAAAAN!”

            NO..

He is a PUBLIC SERVANT who came to us soliciting our support. People gave him their support because they expected him to fulfill his campaign promises. He said he was DIFFERENT and he would make the change we were looking for. He said, ‘support me and I’ll get it done’.. That is why he owes us. its really simple.

“yes, I do agree we should hold all people in office accountable but why blame him for the ills of the world.”

^What do you mean “Blame him for the ills of the world”?

It doesnt sound like you agree or understand at all that politicians should be held accountable, because that is what Im suggesting and you seem to object to it.

I understand that he is under alot of pressure because of the magnitude of the job and nature of this country. Certain people have taken the disrespect to a new level..

BUT THIS IS THE JOB HE WANTED… AND GUESS WHAT? HE WANTS IT AGAIN.

the disrespect shown to him from some whites is regrettable but not shocking. This is America, and we know the nature of some people in this country.. Its twisted and built on hatred.

We have no control over any of that, and we sure as h**l shouldnt duck our heads down and “be seen and not heard” in order placate the president. Ducking our heads and biding our time isnt going to benefit us ever. It never has and it never will

“We are regressing as a people and it’s frighteming,”

^If we think we should fall back and be quiet, and coddle the president, Then yes we are regressing and it is indeed frightening..

    • Rasheed7, Thank you for your insightful observations. I see Dr. Boyce and Yvette as courageous and bold in their observations. It equates to the basic enlightenment that other groups of people seem to understand by virtue of self love and collective consciousness. By their sharing of truth from their perspectives I did not see the vanities that others are suggesting. They showed respect for those they disagreed with, without the venomous and unwarrented attacks being hurled against their names. I hope they will not be silenced from propagating their opinions. I receive my slap on the wrist and shaken into reality wake-up call. We need Black-Think Tanks and we can not dispise small beginings. I will vote for President Obama and do hope he gets a second term. However, I hope we as a people do indeed make a demand on him doing that second term that we as a people clearly have failed to make in first term. There is no justification for character attacks on these two who are attempting to assist us to come to another level of consciousness as a people. They are foot soldiers, even as marines by necessity are first to make a move on new terrain. Let us not be guilty of friendly fire. Many whom have commented here need to re-listen with an open mind.

      • rev alvin, you say there is no justification for character attacks on boyce and yvette. you also say they showed respect for those they disagree with.

i assume you must have recently join this site because they have been disrespecting obama, rev. sharpton, mellisa harris, tom joiner, steve harvey etc. with toxic, unwarranted attacks against their names.

surely you wouldn’t support a black man calling a black women a w***e would you? do some research, that’s what boyce called mellisa harris while trying to defend cornel west.

like you, i’m waiting to see the actions of obama in his second term if he is not defeated from the evil work to make him a one term president by the racist whites and self hating negroes like boyce and yvette.

  7. The sad part is them and some of us would rather run the risk of putting a man in the white house who’s very religion says we are less than human. And this all to go after another black man, a black president, who actually genetically blacker than all of us.

History will record what black people said and did when there was the first black president. Sometimes I don’t get my people at all.

  8. Dr. George Moorman

Has this energy ever been displayed to have any other president adopt a Black agenda? We’ve seen Black educators, police chiefs, ministers and sports figures not required to adopt a Black agenda. We are in the position we are in because we as a people don’t have a Black agenda. If we had a Black agenda, we wouldn’t be at the White House begging for political scraps.

We spend over 700 million dollars yearly on everything but a Black agenda. We trust our children to academic institutions without Black agendas. We participate in fanatical and fatalistic religious practices that don’t have a Black agenda.

WHERE IS THE BLACK AGENDA? MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHERE IS BLACKNESS?

    • bahati sobukwe

The answer to your question is never have these ‘neegroes’ exerted any energy holding all of those white presidents accountable. Did they hold their ‘first black president-Clinton’ accountable? Did they say anything when he sent the Haitians back to Haiti? Did they say anything when he did welfare reform? Did they hold him accountable when he let the Rwandans slaughter each other without his intervention, Did they say anything when he insulted Sistah Souljah? Did they hold Bush accountable when he let the whole town of New Orleans drown? They are the worst kind of crabs.
What did they think he was going to give them 40 acres and a mule!

      Black agenda, you’re kidding right?

      • thank you bahati…for a second those negroes had me listening to that black agenda bull c**p until you exposed their hypocrasy.

some will still complain about obama even if he gave them reparations checks along with the 40 acres and the mule!

    • Thank you Dr. Moorman, my sentiments EXACTLY.

  9. I must reiterate, Presedent had a job to do, duriing his first term, for the people that put him there. Even though some of those same folks may back him again they should understand he has to do something for us, the second time around… or they will not be backing him again. Unless he sees him self as an American and not an African American!!! One note on an unrelated matter.. Some of us are complaining about the state of unemployment amongs us, however, who told us to drop out of school, or not study hard, or get thrown in prison(s)… Too many of us fit those bills, not even those of us who can hire wants to hire us!!!

  10. Milton Williams

to some Mr.Obama can do no wrong….and just because he is black..back him regardless….well politicans have to have some kind of accountability…if not…what stops them..from disregarding/disrespecting their respective constiuency……thusly accomphising nothing or very little..for the peple whom were basically responsible for his/her election…….well i,m not among…those who would be that short sighted….hopefully you will not be among those either…

  11. Listen folks: who’s gonna listen to someone who supports the first black president? These yokels will always have something negative to say about everything. Because we will not own up to what we need to do as a people, we will continue to whine.

  12. I want to also make the point that You should vote for Obama this time, because he is the lesser of 2 pretty dim futures. But ultimately, that ‘best of the worst’ paradigm needs to change. We seem to be the last group of folks in this country to understand this. Everyone else sees the handwriting on the wall. This country is in BIG TROUBLE and we cannot afford to play the same old games anymore.

  13. One question ‘why no one complained about a Black Agenda when they were presented to White Presidents”. “When” we get another White president why should we present a Black Agenda to that president: not requiring anything from President Obama we are painting ourselves into a Big Corner. So why vote if we don’t require anything of the people we help get elected.

  14. It is amazing to see so many “so-called” intelligent black people with such cutting edge insight that waste time debating this issue of the president. We have to all know that the presidency is purchased by the super RICH. How long are we going to keep living in the lie that we chose this president. As Dr. Mayes-Buckley said if every voting African American voted we still would not have enough votes to elect anyone! We need to understand Mr. Obama is not there on our votes. He was a p**n in the scheme of a much larger diabolic plan by white America. We can waste precious time fussing and fighting about whether this man has failed the black community all day long. The fact of the matter is we know that there is no way in h**l a black man made it to the Pennsylvania Ave without the white establishments careful planning. Black people get over it. Discern what’s really going on with this matter. Blacks keep saying that Mr. Obama has failed us when the fact of the matter is we have failed us! Our black elected officials have nothing for the black community either. They have failed in their promises. So why are we not sounding the alarm on them? It’s really time for Black folk to wake up and get over the fact of just being happy that we have a black president. The truth is we don’t have a black president; the white establishment has a black p**n. A black scape goat.

African Americans need to stop being so full of it. If you can criticize Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Maxine Waters why not Barack Obama. Policy people not his color!

    • Good post..Well If we are going to go there? Then yes, the bottom line is that Obama is a black face on the same old policies.

The 1% have already served noticed that they are simply gonna buy the elections (and the government) and most politicians are lining up to do their bidding at our expense..

      And nobody will stop them.

I wonder what people think of voting anymore…

This country as a whole has alot of people who see past the curtain these days and dont respect the process of government or elected officials much anymore. I see comments regularly from people who flat out state like the poster above did.. That means the country as a whole is crumbling. Nobody respects the institutions anymore

I wonder do people still believe that voting will make a change

      • The republicans do or they would not be working so hard to remove people from the voting roll..

      • “I wonder do people still believe that voting will make a change”

I do not! Our so called representatives only answer to those that fill their campaign coffers w. millions: the banksters, Wall Street, corporations & the like. The 1% buys off the party n power to serve its own agenda. Both The Democrats & Republicans do its bidding, while the ppl suffer & r left high & dry.

        • I think if you ask people who are on social security, Medicare, medicade and other programs where they depend on the right people in office to keep programs workable for people who depend on them– Ask the man and woman about to lose their homes but is able to maintain because president extended their unemployment checks–People that want to wipe your a*s out, love the fact.that you think the way you do about voting– And they are trying to remove people from the.voting row right before your eyes and you refused to see, and the reason why they are able to it, is because they have already convinced people like you that the vote don’t count–I am done talking here because their is none so blind as those who have site but refuse to see.

  15. I don’t think that Al Sharpton or any other black leaders dropped the ball. The black families coming up today have dropped the ball. I don’t think that they are preparing their children for anything that Obama could do for them. If black people would have came out and voted for Al Gore or John Kerry. like they came out for Qbama we would’nt be in this mess today. Oh there’s a black man running for president, let me go vote. Those two elections were so close that the black vote could have made a difference. I think under the circumstances Obama is doing a great job and will always have my vote. I think this is a disgrace that subject is being discussed by black people. So go right ahead and let Romney and the rightwing, GOP, AKA CLANSMEN TAKE CHARGE.

  16. Al”Alley Cat”Sharpton, is a a*s kisser,Dr. Boyce is totally right, I along with many people I love have suffered under Obama than any President in history. Only time Obama has time for blacks is MLK’s birthday when he likes to give his Buck and The Preacher speeches and to tell us to stop whining! Really?

To me that is all gays and Latinos have been doing from day one. And if he gets reelected, Obama still won’t get his picture up in my house next to Jesus, Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy. LOL!!!

Side Note: Dr. Boyce I’m loving the new radio show and I’m jealous that you get to work with the smart and good looking Ed Gordon.:)

    • Pam, where were you during the last 12 years before Obama? You really sound like an idiot. I really didn’t want to go there. Rev. Al Sharpton has always been there for our people. Where do you get off calling him an alley cat. It’s people like you that set our people back 50 years. “I’m jealous because you get to work with the smart and good looking Ed Gordon” what kind of c**p is that?

      • You are right– What have people who are up here talking about the President not doing anything for Blacks–I may be mistaken, but there were some Blacks who benefited from the unemployment check extensions– there other things that Black benefited from that the President have doing– Go to his d**n web site and learn something beside the talking points you hear from television and radio, neighborhood talking heads– Black poeople in the 50s and 60s didn’t sit around on the net talking about what a president wasn’t doing–No, they took action and went to the streets to lead the presidents not wait on the presidents to lead them– Boyce and his side kick need to step our and lead protests if they think the President is hurting the Black community– Talking up here is not reaching the people who they claimed they are looking out for– The people in communities that are hit hard by drugs, prostitution, brake–in, stick-up, rape, child abuse, poor schools, gangs, murders, etc– they should make demand on the mayors and chief of police– if they don’t get the result vote them out of office or do whatever it take to get them out of office– Go to the governor of your state , your state senators and house members, then their is your two senators and house members in DC–So, Mr Boyce and side kick, as you can see that is a lot of work– And Black people need to stop spending energy on s**t like– Black drug pushers pushing crack get more prison time than White pushers do for pushing powder cocaine– why should they give a d**n if Black pushers get more time– these jackasses are selling one of the most additive drug known to man to their sons and daughters–the desire for crack turn their daughters and sons into prostitutes, killers, thieves and anything else negative– The drug users and the pushers are responsible for the dilapidated neighborhoods—And Black preachers, politicians and neighborhood people were upset because these selling of death were getting more time than Whites who were selling powder cocaine– d**n, talking about backward thinking– All these people should have been protesting for these death sellers to get more time — Where was Boyce and his side kick on the crack vs powder situation?

  17. @ pam:

you say,,,,I along with many people I love have suffered under Obama than any President in history.

REALLY, how did you fix your mouth to say that?

    stupid should hurt!

  18. DON’T NOBODY NEEDS TO SAY A THING…TAVIS AND CORNELL were the only ones to speak out and EVERYBODY got mad with him. Four years later and the blacks are grumbling. President Obama is married to a smart black woman and I’m sure Michelle is speaking her mind to him.

  19. This was a pretty good conversation. There were a lot of valid points mentioned between Yvette and Dr. Boyce.

  20. Jeremiah Williams

I am deeply troubled by the tenor of the conversation regarding whether or not the president has failed the black community. Brothers and sisters we live in a democracy with two equally elected branches of Government and one appointed ( The Supreme Court). Now whereas the president leads the executive branch he must work with the Congress who writes and indeed makes laws. The president doesn’t make laws he can only propose and lobby Congress to pass them. There are many bills even now that awaiting congressional action that will help all of us as Americans. Perhaps if some of those who constantly take issue with what the president can and cannot do would offer some effective solutions rather than a boat of criticism something helpful might emerge. I am a senior citizen who fought in a war on foreign soil as well as in this country as a member of the Civil Rights Struggle. To be sure we have come a long way and yet have a long way to go but encouraging our black brothers and sisters to boycott this election borders of treason in my opinion with so much at stake. Yes I hear a lot of negative noise now that I have not heard before directed at this president and I think it is very unfair giving what he inherited and what he has been able to accomplished under an almost impossible situation. Perhaps it would be helpful to visit Washington and see just how the elected officials operate. I dare say you might leave with a different understanding as well as a deeper appreciation for this president. Can I again ask you as the president has asked that you don’t judge him against the almighty but rather the alternative and perhaps you just might see things somewhat different.

  21. These two people are angry and bitter, why? President Obama cannot get your father out of jail. He did not put them there. President Obama cannot stop work place discrimination. d**n it file an EEOC complaint. President Obama cannot do anything other than what he is doing for education. Question, after all of these years what have you been doing.

I was seven when Dr. King died. Because of my family and our history I decided I would not let their sacrifices be in vain. I raised my son with the same knowledge. I am not upset nor do I think the president is overlooking me as an African American because he stood up for the equality of the LGBT community. BTW, black people are gay too. I am not upset with President Obama because he has decided not to deport immigrant children and young adults who were brought here by their parents so they can freely look for employment.

Young people please, stay in school, do not engage in criminal activity, and do not get pregnant. But if any of these things or anything else happens to detour you, do not give up on yourself. If you are talented, do not allow anyone the opportunity to take advantage of you. Educate yourself both traditionally and politically. Get your own. Parents support your children and put their needs first. If the school your child is going to is not the best do all you can to ensure your child has what he/she needs if you cannot get him/her in a better school. Take an offered hand up never live through the mentality of expecting an hand out.

President Obama has shown compassion for Gay people and the Dreamers, I do not understand why this is a slight against African Americans.

  22. WoW!! So many people are trying to sing Ol’e Man River….You know we are the Darker Brothers & Sisters in America. Please give some thought to all the mighty Black brothers & sisters that have gone before us. Jeremiah Williams said it well. Be happy, positive and productive in all you do. Give voice to praise and be your brother’s keeper with support and grace. Please don’t throw Stones. What ever you think about Mr. President, remember to give him the respect he has earned as a person of Color in this U.S.A. Remember his position, and the fact that he works in a White house not a Black or Brown house. Remember his training to have arrived at this place & time….it was not an accident. Why not begin with a brain-storming group among your intellectuals and come up with what you think is needed to be done realistically[step by step] for the Darker Brothers & sisters in USA. Write Mr. President a letter and follow-up with a face to face meeting, as others with concerns have done. Mr. Obama is very aware of what he can and cannot do, in the White house. However, support and a [peoples plan] You, We can move mountains. It is very sad indeed to listen to angry sounds comming from Home. Don’t you see, realize or think that White America is happy when we, as Black Americans are not happy with this man, and look forward to your anger to vote him out…. Putting your anger aside, do you really think in your heart of hearts that Any republican Black or White cares about any-thing dealing with people of Color?

  23. JUST KEEP DOGING HIM! And next year when Romney is President we will all be shining shoes again! WAKE UP PEOPLE! Get out of the ” Crab Pot” and support our President! You will never have this opportunity again!

  24. Yvette is beautiful i hope she isn’t a dike…..NOBAMA & just say no to politics the black race have no place nor voice in that dirty game……..

  25. Blackdog ! confirm your loyality publicy, what is the Parting Ways Project ? and why is it not somewhere in your Archives ,Interviews and comments ? Whoa to the shepard who feeds himselfand not the flock.
Reperation My but,The bases of freedom is land.We have that land, but a Mark of deception, seems to dominate the web,T.V. and educated misguided bloggers who have pimped the attention of this urgent international land development, started by For Black Patriots of 1776.
This is the true Afro American Repreration. will you be the reason some will lose out ?

  26. These okey doke negroes won’t ever go against the actual establishment because at the end of the day, as someone already addressed, they want to still be a viable choice as the next candidate to get a show on CNN, MSNBC and the like! They want to pretend to sound intellectually militant but at the end of the day none of these black leaders that they mention but, never specifically because they’ll get a call, tweet, email or whatever saying, “Take my name outcha mouth!” don’t sit down and pow wow with them on the regular. h**l, irregularly I’ll help ya…Because they’re not people of any real notoriety that’s why! Obamamania, let it go…One black Presidency isn’t going to solve all of black America’s problems, you’re being really silly hoping that something close to the aforementioned ideal desire will ever come to fruition. What President doesn’t want to be re-elected in today’s politics?!! Crickets…These intellectuals are analyzing culture and politics at face value and so they are doing no better than the NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNBC and FOX!

  27. Elvoyce Hooper

I am 70 and have been voting since age 21. Since then, other than social welfare programs and a few nice jobs I have never seen the democratic party deliver any lasting benefit to the black community. Now we expect diffrently because the head is black.

One problem is that we vote 90 percent for democrats. Therefore we are taken for granted by democrats and written off by republicans.

Hispanics are more evenly split, therefore the democaratic party and president is more responsive to their interest.

The Homosexual community has vast resorces and the support of the media and therefore the democratic pary and president is responsive to their interest.

THAT IS POLITICS. And until we learn to look deepter than skin color and empty promises that are never fufilled, we will continue to be marginalized.
