The new campaign ad for President Barack Obama is raising eyebrows. The ad uses a great deal of slang, urban music and features people singing “We’ve got your back!” in the background. Some are saying that it dumbs itself down for African Americans and amounts to buffoonery.
Here are some anonymous comments from our readers on Facebook:
John Morrison Is that Take 6 singing in the Background? LOL
Sanity may require that we all distance ourselves from this madness. I feel as if I’m living a dream…nightmare… surreal…
This is a cheap ad…he could’ve gotten Jay-Z to rhyme for us……lol
This is embarrasing!
Thanks Obama for the new ringtone!
Haaaaaaaaa! Yes, gots to get me some Malt Liquor!
lol and fried chicken, watermelon & grape soda!
Listen to the ad yourself and be the judge:
i think this ad caters to black folks because it doesnt seem like were into or shall i say paying attention to the chance of obama not winning, and some of us feel he didnt do anything for us, therefore “i just aint gone vote” when for one he cant single black people out and say “i gotta look out for my peeps” he has to look out for the whole usa. and we cant look for anyone to help us, when we cant come together and help ourselves first. so with this ad its to attract us so hopefully we will take notice, and still keep obama in . and ima tell ya we had better vote or we really gone be n a worser way than we think we are in now”
It’s about time! I always felt that President given another term would begin to do something for the black people. Yes, we know he elected to the whole Country, but he is aware of the history of black in America and as a Blackman he wants to leave us with someting, besides we may never have another Black President for a long time.
Yeah, Obama is leaving quite a legacy. Now if Hermain Cain was still running we might have a chance at a DECENT black president who actually KNOWS something about business and job creation.
keep in mind that Obama is not in charge. he is the face on the white people in power who are attacking brown people in the middle east and African people in Africa
That’s the killing part, blacks here saying they are so proud of a black president while totally ignoring how the US is attacking black and brown nations all over the world under the banner of the Obama administration
this is what blind allegiance does to a mind
it shuts it down
Barak Obama has authorized the killing of more Muslims than all the World leaders before him.
Would you give a Guy like this a Noble Peace Prize?
@ walter thomas
the only thing I would change about your post is President Obama’s ADMINISTRATION has put a black man’s face on this killing. He is NOT the one making the decisions.
Again, I say that black people KNOW that Obama is not telling the most powerful whites in the nation what to do. We know better. Now, that is something I’d like someone to dispute right here in this blog instead of trying to guilt-trip folks like me into agreeing with them
POST THE FACTS
Now thatbis thinking out side of the box!
@ Poetee
read these posts and it’s like black people are brand new, and don’t have a clue as to how the real world works. Talking about ‘helping’ President Obama when he doesn’t even TALK to black people. Talking about ‘supporting’ President Obama when we can hardly help ourselves. Half of us don’t even support our friends and neighbors and coworkers but we’re all caught up in this symbolism, what comedian Paul Mooney calls, ‘The delusion of inclusion’
I’m not putting folks down but can’t they see what is happening? That you can’t blindly support ANYONE and expect him to respect you? That you can’t let the white system select and finance your leader then expect your leader to lead you?
He who pays the COST is D sure the boss
what millions of dollars did black people as a group donate to Obama’s campaign? This isn’t about putting anybody down — that’s a child’s lack of logic
this is about looking at the REAL world as it exists
if you don’t pay the cost then he or she is NOT WORKING ON YOUR BEHALF
why do we think all these super rich people and corporations donate money to a president’s campaign?
because they like his speeches?
we sit and watch these movies revealing how the world of politics is a dirty game and how the people are lied to
and along comes a candidate we like and we forget all that and now we’re brand new, babies in the forest, country bumpkins who just fell off the turnip truck
and then have the nerve to get mad at other people who don’t want to fall for the okey doke of the one of the most corrupt political systems on the planet
get mad if you want to but we need to redirect that anger at the people who are really hurting you and it D sure ain’t nobody (like me) who is definitely not powerful or rich because I wouldn’t have time to post on this thread
LISTEN UP Y’ALL–
ITS TIME FOR ALL PEOPLE TO STOP CREATING HEROES OUT OF OTHER HUMAN BEINGS
NO ONE IS GOING TO LEAD YOU TO THE “PROMISED LAND” EXCEPT YOU
The only attacking Africa are African leaders, with our fake democracies, money laundering, no accountability or transparency by the government and bribery and corruption. Obama isn’t in any way responsible for the state we’re in.
Okay people, you need to get a GRIP. Historically, this IS A BLACK PRESIDENT and we should be proud. We didn’t elect SUPER NEGRO, we elected a man with dark skin connected to a history of a people who were grossly mistreated by white Europeans. You act ask though he is running a lemonade stand by the side of the road. This country is run by global interests. I would guess that even he didn’t realize the magnitude of that office. So much of what happens here has NOTHING to do with what “ANY” president of the US does. He DOESN’T CONTROL THE WORLD AND TO SOME EXTENT, DOESN’T OCNTROL WHAT ACTION IS TAKEN. White liberals, white conversatives, Black mammies and TOMS are on this ONE man’s back as though he can, with a wave of his hand, correct all the injustices of the world and make a white, male dominated Congress do what he says. The white male “money” in this coutnry TOLD you that they were going to do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO MAKE HIM ‘FAIL”!!!! lORD, if the man coughs, you guys will find something to critize. Try coming up with ideas and solutions and ways to make your community stronger. Give him another term and then see what he does. In the mean time
PLEASE, GIVE IT A REST!!!!!!!
I applaud Herman Cain for stepping up on the behalf of his past careers. But he’s too conservative who sees through the eyes of the White Framers of The Constitution of the United States.
The “white” framers of the Constitution did a good job. The constitution was written by white people bascially because the United States of America was their idea. Now, if we would only follow the thing, as amended, most of our problems would be gone. So much of what the government does is simply unconstitutional. In example, Jimmy Carter and the democrat controlled congress invented the Department of Education, and the public education system has steadily declined ever since; yet ignorant people have a fit when a politician suggests closing down the DOE, thinking that the person is anti-education. Don’t look now, but people were getting good educations before May 4, 1980, and factually, the average high school graduate was better at math and reading, and knew more history than today’s graduate.
Rochesternative!!!!!!!!!. Herman Cain is a pimp and a yes man to white folks. so you would vote for someone like him
walter thomas,NO, the muslims have killed more people than anybody ever, They do all the bombing, flying planes into building and killing their own people.
YES, I would give BARACK .( Correct spelling) OBAMA several Noble Peace Prizes.
A Herman Cain presidency would be what “certain people” are trying to paint Obama’s presidency to be. A front face. They put that mess out about Cain’s filandering “which were the Republicans telling him that his 15 minutes were up and to sit his behind down. So, he went and sat his behind down like he was told. lol.
There comes a point when it is just futile to respond with any kind of logic to poeple like m3112233. ANYBODY who thinks Herman Cain would have made a good president, is beyond REASON and LOGIC. They are truely the victims of “mr jim crow indoctrination! Unfortunately, they have lost the ability to see truth or to speak truth to power. The only power they understand is dictated by what whites tell them to think and do. They have NO place in the Black community and because they have NO self esteem, they have no place in the community of humanity. They are just simply, lost souls. TOO BAD, SO, SO SAD!!
hermen show us to lie, cheat, disresect his wife and been a good uncle thank herman
You’ve got to be kidding. What have you been drinking in your Koolaide??
You’ve got to be kidding. What have you been drinking in your kookaid?
As a recent college grad and a young woman, just turning 30 years of age, with lots of life experience, and a soon to be LMSW Grad Student, I feel like blacks are lazy. I am African Irish Native American so I can say this. I say blacks are lazy, because the first thing we yell is that the President is supposed to do everything to help us. Like the very first poster evelyn said in so many words, yes, we elected and swore in a man who has kept his promise in so many ways. People, black people are so superficial in thought.
We only see the right then and right now things, without viewing the what’s behind the scenes that will help the decisions of major issues come to forewishing. We want instant gratification, and this man said, whether he won or not, that things were not going to come overnight and that it was going to take some time to fix all of the mess, that was created by the prior administrations, especially the Bush era’s.
Now, I said blacks were lazy; let me explain how blacks are lazy. We as black people never do anything for ourselves, and we expect a man elected by an entire nation to say “I’ma take care of black people,” and when he does not do what we feel he should do, then the first thing we scream is “He hasn’t done anything for us!” Oh, reall?! He hasn’t done anything for you. I cannot find the link, but a professor brought in a link and it was a apart of a class discussion. The link consisted of a report that demonstrated that Congress and Senate, although they try to block all that he does to get certain bills passed to be made into law, report that Mr. President has actually done more work than any other President, and then reported to the public.
All the work he has done, actually is with repairing the USA’s relationships with the international community, so that if someone like North Korea starts acting up, like they had before, then other countries will rise up in defense of us and threaten them with sanctions. This is just part of what he has done, but the tip of the iceberg is dealing with financial relations in the US and the international community, because no country operates financially independent of other countries. This again, is just some of the work he has done, that gives people the unemployment benefits they get, SSI, and even some of your retirement.
As black people, we have not done anything to help Mr. President help us. All we have done is scream for handouts, when we need traditional education, and guidance. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP MR. PRESIDENT HELP US, BY LIVING CONSTRUCTIVELY.
@nedrea scott . . .
I liked parts of your write-up. However, I take issue with your suggestion that Obama has “done more work” than any president before him; if for no other reason, than such a claim is basically an opinion.
For sure, Obama has not increased our nation’s respect around the world. The typical cast of characters still despise us, and Russia is openly working against us (for example, it was revealed just yesterday that the Russians are actually arming the Syrian government, in direct opposition to the US and UN attempts to cut off Syria’s ability to wage war on its own people). Obama’s actions in Afghanistan (keeping us there until 2024) has certainly not won us any brownie points. The whole Afghanistan thing is ironic, considering Obama ran as the “anti-war” president. Pakistan actually hates us more than ever. The exit from Iraq was handled really badly, and Iraq is a mess now. Despots in South America are thumbing their nose at us, and once friendly places like Ecuador no longer look at the US in good terms. Since Obama took office, the US has lost access to land US military planes in Ecuador (2009), and Ecuador expelled the US Ambassador (2011) over thing leaked documents in which the US said not very nice things about the Ecuador president (how’s that for foreign relations and security of documents?).
I agree that black folks (or any other color of folks) ought not simply ask for handouts, and instead get out there and work to get ahead (aka, The American Way). However, Obama has been inept in virtually everything he has undertaken as President. Obamacare has caused insurance premiums to increase significantly, which in turn caused a lot of people to lose coverage. Putting more people on Medicaid does NOT help in the long run, as Medicaid is extremely expensive while also creating still greater dependence of lower income people on the government. Obama made it easier to get food stamps (as if it wasn’t already easy), and INCREASED the number of people getting them by 15 million new people, and then gave a 20% “raise” to those already getting food stamps (this is why Gingrich called Obama the food stamp president). Obama’s now infamous Stimulus Program obviously was a horrendous failure. He promised unemployment would stay under 8% if congress passed it, they did pass it, Obama signed it into law, and unemployment skyrocketed to over 10% (and worse for black people), and has never dropped below 8% since the bill was passed. Obama has a hit list, and I mean a literal hit list, and sometimes American Citizens have been on that list (that’s unconstitutional, period, we all have a right to a trial). And Obama’s own justice department admits that Obama’s administration has been leaking more classified information than any president in history.
I do not care much for Mr. Romney. However, I do believe that he can do a better job with the economy than Obama. And I believe Romney will do a respectable job with foreign affairs, at least he couldn’t do us any worse than Obama. So, this time, I’m going to hold my nose, and vote for the best man for the job — Mitt Romney.
You got to be out of your mind, Mr. 999 is ashamed of being an African-American, he is “a brother from another mother,” as he says. He kisses u-no-what. They gave him a anti-black people talk show in my opinion, maybe funded by his brothers from another mother. He suffers from (RID) Racial identity disorder. He’s was born in the wrong color body.
His ancestors must have already turn over in their graves.
actually, being out of a mind passes the joke back to you as being the whiner that the rest of the buck dancing uncle toms on this wall are. I said nothing about HIS racial identity, but I did say that MY race was lazy as h**l and I am ALMOST ashamed. The Bible says if a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat. I went to do a research study on jobs and their availability and discovered that there are plenty of jobs out here, but here is the problem “Black people are NOT qualified to work them because we are too freaking UNEDUCATED” who’s fault is that? The excuse of school not being and option has been in the alleys for the longest. The wrong people are parents, who don’t give guidance. I am a former broken kid from Detroit and everything you name, I saw it, knew someone who did, or went through it myself, so this excuse after excuse bid is getting ridiculously stupid. The jobs that black people want are mediocre, and they don’t want to come out of mediocrity because they don’t go get EDUCATED first then go after a career verses a darn job. So all of the “He didn’t anything for me, because I don’t this or that”, please get off your pepper cheese’s (In place of bad language, which I do not use at all) and do something to change your circumstances. If I was a homeless high school student, and dealt with this in college as well while working, then you can do the same blasting thing. You all itch me, so I am not responding to anymore post. Have a good day
@ me112233
I’m voting for Obama. Again!!!
Obama\Biden “2012″
That’s exactly why he married one, I guess. You think?
You have gotta be kidding!! Herman ain’t thinkn about nothing but how to score with a white woman! Pay attention!! Our President knows when to move & what battles he should entertain, we better pull up our boots and get in their and fight with him, don’t wait 2B tagged. We Are All It and if we make a mistake & let Mitt in well All I can say is Mad God Be With Us that are making less than $150K a year!
I liked Herman, I even donated $100 early on. Too bad Herman had trouble keeping it in his pants.
I beg to differ with you with respect to your opinion that Herman Cain would make a better president. An objective analysis of his proposed “999″ tax initiative reveals that it actually raises, not lowers taxes on a significant percentage of the population, including low income earners. Such a tax DOES NOT CREATE JOBS but has the opposite effect. What does that tell you about Mr. Cain’s business acumen?
I beg to differ with your assumption that Herman Cain would make a better president. An objective analysis of his “999″ tax plan actually raises taxes on a significant percentage of the population, including low income earners. SUCH A PLAN DOESN’T RESULT IN JOB CREATION BUT JUST THE OPPOSITE.
I beg to differ with your opinion of Herman Cain’s presidential qualifications. An objective analysis of his “999″ tax plan reveals that it actually RAISES taxes on a significant percentage of the population, including low income earners. THIS WOULD NOT RESULT IN JOB CREATION BUT WOULD HAVE THE OPPOSITE EFFECT. And then, of course, there is the question of his moral character….
I wonder how a person who is the embodiment of all three races combined Native American, African and white promote anything outside of the international agenda. In order to push forward anyone in this nation he would have to [1.] reverse the violations of the treaties made with the Native Americans [2.] Stop the genocide of abortion [3.] Encourage all Americans to grow food [4.] stop the idolatry of Rome from infecting our relationship with The Creator of All Things and infiltrating our national policies and legislation. [5.] Cut the apron strings that this government has with The Privately owned Federal Reserve Bank by revoking it’s charter. Our tax dollars should not be controlled by a private bank. [6.] Lead the nation in repenting before God and confessing our national sins before Him and enforcing His Laws. The successful history that is to be made must have these elements. No other nation can save us but God can if we will let Him. Otherwise … slavery is at the doors.
Here is the problem in that thinking: something the founders of this country put in place-The First Amendment, which dictates that Congress SHOULD NOT make an established religion, hence not only guarantees freedom of religion, but makes the separation of church and state a solid foundation. Plus on top of this, many people have used the Bible to justify hatred, bigotry and slavery – they probably asked for forgiveness but they would do the same thing all over again. The violence that these guys and gals have done against their fellow man has come back to haunt us because they were “doing” God’s laws.
As for “dumbing down”-I’ve got five nephews that I am exremely proud of because they saw their surroundings at an early age and capitalized on the educational opportunities available to them. All of them are doing careers in healthcare (one’s planning on becoming a doctor) and law (two are becoming lawyers). They didn’t let gangs, drugs, blight and even deaths of a couple of their friends stop them.
The last time I checked as it relate to doing for all the people, he rarely mentioned jobs and unemployment in his first two years. We all were anticipating a massive emergency jobs effort or something similar, just as Johnson, Kennedy, nixon, and even Ford had done. No, this neocon continued to cater to wall street, the private sector unchecked gods. Remenber it was reported that he met with some key players from wall street and was quoted as saying,” I am the only thing standing between you,i.e. wall street and the pitchfork”. Well look what he got for protecting robbers and criminals, wall street has contributed 37-million to Romney’s campaign and a mere 4-million for their boy. Too big to fail and too big to go to jail.
I disagree! I feel the reason Wall Street isn’t backing him is because they thought they had a sucker because they contributed to his 2008 campaign. But when he didn’t play the game for them, the switch to the guy they KNOW will! I’m GLAD Wall Street is not givig him money, maybe now people can finally see that some pols can’t be bought! And I blame a lot of Dems that sat out 2010 being mad because the man hadn’t fixed EVERYTHING in 2 years! And look what that got us, the freakin’ teaparty!! And when the Republicans are doing ALL THEY CAN to make him fail, how is it that you think he can do it all by himself? We should have given him the people he needed to make thinks happen. Sitting at home in 2010 really cut off our collective noses, just to spite our face!!
EXACTLY
Cliff, I’m with you on that. President Obama is no fool. He is a very smart man.
Here in Curacao many children have to sit on old chairs and in classrooms with no ventilation. When they complain they are told to be quiet. They are treated like beggars and we forget one thing : All children have the right to have a good aducation at school, most of all, those who do not get it at home.
Nobody cares, but they expect that these children will grow up and be “nice”
Even their parents do not speak up. I work without pay at one of those
schools and my heart cries for them. When I speak up nobody listen.
Please give mr. Obama a chance, he knows what he is doing and why.
To: Cliff and all Obama supporters
From: Hardcore liberal Black man
Maybe Obama choose to go the path of leaning far to the right in order to create a dialoge for change but he went way to far! He left us behind and between playing policeman for Isreal and appeasing the GOP with concession after concession the only time left was to ignore the Black misery.
people, people
we know this is not true. That Obama is not calling the shots and telling white people what to do. We know it doesn’t happen on our jobs (let’s keep it real) so why would we think the most powerful government in the world would be any different?
why do you think he is being so publicly disrespected if he has all this power?
that doesn’t make any sense
the white people in charge are demonstrating to you that Obama is NOT in charge by the way they treat him
If I went into a corporate office and the manager was black and everybody even the secretaries and copy room clerks were disrespecting that black man,
would you believe he was really in charge and telling them what to do?
If he was, wouldn’t they be afraid to disrespect him to his face?
come on, people, follow the logic
he is NOT in charge, he was hired to be the fall guy for the people who are
Cliff, TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!
EXACTLY.
Moplus , you are one stupid a*s. stop thinking that because we have a black president that he is going to sit in the oval office and say now you listen to me Iam the president and Iam telling you right now that my black people will come first from now on, so I want jobs given to all the black people first, start writing checks right now and give each household the money they need to get back on their feet. This president is trying to help all Americans and the Republicans and you will not support him. Being president doesn’t mean he can do whaterever he wants to do, it has to be voted on and the republicans have voted whatever he has tried to do down even when they themselves were for it. You think its bad for black people now, let Romney become president and then you can write about what he is doing for black people.
As for the ad, Its amazing how we listen to rappers degrade us, especially black females and we clap our hands and dance to the beat, but President Obama tells us in song that he’s got our back and we complain . Usually from knowing a little about the history of presidents in office, it takes the second four years for any president to turn things around from the prior President if need be and Bush left a WHOLE lot of MESS for this President to clean up. As for Johnson, Nixon, and even Ford , Please read your history, Johnson only was president because he was vice when Kennedy died, he did sign into effect The Civil Rights Act of 1964, but The bill was called for by President John F. Kennedy in his civil rights speech of June 11, 1963 . Nixon at the beginning , I would say was a somewhat decent president, but things got out of control. The downturn happen in 1973. Expansive fiscal and monetary policies combined with a shortage of food (aggravated by massive Soviet purchases of American wheat) to fuel inflation. And then came the oil shock. Oil prices were rising even before the onset of the Arab oil boycott in October of 1973. Ultimately, inflation would climb to 12.1 percent in 1974 and help push the economy into recession. When Nixon left office, the economy was in the tank, with rising unemployment and inflation, lengthening gas lines, and a crashing stock market. And with watergate, he was impeached.
When the Watergate scandal forced Nixon to resign, Ford became the president.what did he do, a month after , he pardon Nixon and caused an outrage. His administration did gradually lower the country’s high rate of inflation by slowing down the economy, but at the cost of a severe recession (1974-75) and high unemployment
In the final days of the Vietnam War, Ford ordered an airlift of 237,000 anticommunist Vietnamese refugees, most of whom came to the U.S. The public’s revulsion at the events of Watergate contributed to his defeat by Jimmy Carter in 1976.So , you now tell me about all the other presidents before Obama. They all had problems.
The president’s job is hard for whomever is in office and if they don’t have support of those who controll congress, things just want happen and by Obama being the first black president ever, he has no support of most, they want him to fail and you are helping.
KARROLLS’ RESPONSE IS DEAD RIGHT. SAY IT LOUDER. HOPEFULLY MORE PEOPLE WILL READ THIS AND LISTEN AND LEARN.
I agree Davis with you and her. I think Paul H is distorted in thought process about the real issues and so is William Mabon, and moplus.
I agree with Karroll.
this is a distortion of what people are saying. You jumped from one extreme to another
no one is saying Obama is supposed to put blacks first, what they’re saying is he doesn’t talk about us AT ALL.
For you to compare a white president with a black president and NOT realize that those are two different things, that a white man automatically has more power and gets more respect than a black man means you cannot compare Obama’s presidency to that of any previous white president.
one thing I’m convinced of is all this anger is about black people NOT wanting to face the truth and that is President Obama is NOT in charge, he is being used to carry out the SAME agenda that was in place during the Bush years.
That includes the BANK BAILOUTS, extending the tax cuts for the rich, and conducting more WARS against non-white nations.
Look at the bills that Bush passed and Obama has signed each extension of every bill that he said he would not sign if he was president. He is doing what he is TOLD to do and black people need to stop all this pretending and playing and fact the FACT
that nothing has changed since the Bush years
The real kicker is black people claiming to be “African Americans” and proud to be black, and celebrating Kwaanza, and wearing the red, green, and black and all that talking
But not saying a word as the Obama administration attacks Africa and wages war on African leaders
is having a ‘first black president’ more important than respecting ourselves and our African brothers and sisters?
i guess it is…
@ nedrea scott
easy to say what you said
now tell me what I said that was incorrect
by giving me some information so I can become more informed
if you can’t do that
then it is not me who is distorted in my thought process
I just told you in another post. Read the ones I first posted in the beginning of this article then read the others and you will have your answer sir.
@ nedrea scott
To save time, could you please re-post it here?
what did I say that was not true?
you simply disagreeing does not make that a fact
@ nedrea scott
I found it
what you said was:
“I cannot find the link, but a professor brought in a link and it was a apart of a class discussion. The link consisted of a report that demonstrated that Congress and Senate, although they try to block all that he does to get certain bills passed to be made into law, report that Mr. President has actually done more work than any other President, and then reported to the public.”
ME: this is not proof of anything. please provide the name of the report. In my opinion, part of the game is to put forth bills you know will not pass. Hillary Clinton is famous for doing this. Then you convince the people that ‘you tried.’
However, there is MORE proof in what the President actually signs. I would suggest you look at those bank bailout bills, those extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich, and promoting bills that INCREASE illegal immigration while black unemployment goes through the roof, and signing more bills to wage more wars that are killing innocent black and brown people. Now that is something that can be proven.
You also said: “All the work he has done, actually is with repairing the USA’s relationships with the international community, so that if someone like North Korea starts acting up, like they had before, then other countries will rise up in defense of us and threaten them with sanctions.”
ME: In fact, the international community is in serious conflict and drastic economic decline to the extent that we will probably have another world wide WAR.
Right now as I write this, the Obama administration is sending drones to bomb helpless men, women, and children in Pakistan and other non-white nations, so I’m afraid you’re incorrect in thinking that international relationships have improved.
You said: “This again, is just some of the work he has done, that gives people the unemployment benefits they get, SSI, and even some of your retirement.”
ME: True, but at the same time President Obama’s administration extended unemployment benefits, Obama signed THREE MORE free trade agreements with nations like North Korea (like you just mentioned) all of which
TAKES AMERICAN JOBS OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND INCREASES UNEMPLOYMENT TO THE TUNE OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF JOBS
so, while I disagree with nearly everything you said, I respect your right to say it
i agree 100% with karrol’s assessment of black folks self destructive complaining about this great president.PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA HAS PASSED OVER 200 BILLS THAT HAS HELPED BLACK FOLKS.HEALTHCARE,COLLEGE GRANTS OUT OF THE GREEDY BANKS HANDS,EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN AND MEN,CREDIT CARD PROTECTION.a jobs bill republican block daily.black folks have voted for white presidents and i never seen whatJOB bill those white presidents did for them.VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 IT WILL GET BETTER.REPUBLICANS AND CORPORATIONS WILL HAVE TO PLAY NICE.
The references to the previous presidents were directed to the fact that they all had emerency jobs programs, that is, money to the states for the purpose of creating jobs, not an endorsement of their politics. This president could have declared a national emergency doing his first two years in office, when he had the majority in congress just to address the jobs problem. Let me add that he did not need and emergency to address this problem doing his first two years. But rather, he did not mention the word jobs within that two year period, hardly. My point was and is, he has the power to address this jobs problem, which by the way, will continue to be intolerable, with or without congress. Let me reinterate, those aforement mentioned Presidents used those powers to fund public service jobs, emergency jobs, and tax credits as it relate to the latter program.
As a Black Man born here is this death camp called the U.S.of America, this is nothing new. And I don’t like the ad. Also as a Black Man I do see how the President can see us as his “Peeps’ at that. He is a product of White America. He is just pimping off Black people.
Yes sir! My sentiments exactly!
Mr.Asheber,
Please tell me what you think the President should do. I believe a leader of men must strive for excellence.I worked the primary election polls in my district which is over 99% “black” this rather small district about 3600 registered voters, and between 6am and 6pm only (68) voters chose to vote. (66Democrats) (2 Republicans) engagement in the political system starts at the voting booth. Please tell me where in the world would you like to transfer your citizenship and why haven’t you done so. I have been an American for more than 60 years,When a black man works to get to be an American citizen I believe he views government differently. What is “pimping off” Black People?
Thank You.
Onaje Asheber, if you have nothing sensible to say, just be quiet.
this is a public blog, Sister. Everyone has a right to post their opinion. Would you like someone to read your opinion then tell you to “just be quiet?”
we spend so much time talking about how much we respect the black man President Obama, but refuse to respect the black person right next to us.
White people will never change their way of thing/doing WE have to change and begin to treat ourselves with respect and love.
I love LIFE
LIFE is me
I love MYSELF
Ruby I agree. It may be a public blog but nothing of what this boy said makes any sense at all. Don’t mind others. I have one question, why is that because we are black, other black people classify us women as sister? I am not your mother or sister. I am your perfect stranger on the block. NOT all black people relate in the same manner.
@ nedrea scott
What did I say that was incorrect? If you’re going to say something doesn’t make sense then you should be able to explain why so I can become more informed
if you can’t do that
then you might be the one who is not making sense. Does that make any sense to you?
Nedrea Scott – for a person training to work with and consult with others your self absorbed attitude is disturbing.
Granted you have studied, but have you really learned anything?
You were totally out of line to call the gentleman a boy. Maybe that’s the way people refer to others in Detroit. But this is not a casual conversation in Detroit, this is public site where everyone should be addressed appropriately and respectfully. Furthermore, some black people maybe lazy, as well as some lazy Irish and some lazy Native Americans too. Also, if Black people were as lazy as you say they are then you probably wouldn’t be where you are now.
In case you’ve forgotten, there were a lot of people who were forced to work so that you could have a chance to work doing something that you wanted to do, not had to do.
Please continue your training, you need it!
@ sagee
Thanks for saying what I was thinking. I noticed that she referred to me as “boy” but claims to respect black men (meaning President Obama)
That being said, I wasn’t offended because FAR too many black people get over-emotional about an issue that requires analytical thinking.
We are a people who are HOOKED on pretending, just as we’re pretending that those in power have VOLUNTARILY handed over the reigns of power to a black man who gives great speeches
we are PRETENDING that this signifies progress even in light of the real facts of all the Oscar Grants and Trayvon Martins, and mass black incarceration and unemployment and inferior schools, and the list is too long for this thread.
we pretend that this ‘first black’ president who doesn’t even TALK to us or ABOUT us, cares about us.
we pretend that he has power over the most powerful whites and Jews in the nation, knowing from working with white snd Jews that they would NEVER willingly take orders from a black man
we pretend that the world of politics has suddenly changed and it is no longer a PAY to PLAY situation where he or she who has the gold RULES because they pretend Obama doesn’t play by those rules.
One thing has been proven true on this thread:
It is impossible to wake up someone who is pretending to be asleep
Peace!
Call 1-800-leave-the-USA for free tickets out of this “death camp”
are you now defending America’s treatment of black people just because Obama is president?
and would you feel that way about the way black people are being treated if McCain had won the presidency?
Brother, black people are so used to be used, some of us think it is normal. They forget (or never knew) that when you allow your enemies to choose your leader, your a** is in deep trouble.
They have fallen for the delusion of inclusion, forgetting that another ‘first black’ after 500 years on the plantation is not progress, that’s a lack of progress.
they pretend not to see that Obama doesn’t even address the black community, so grateful are they for another ‘symbol’ that will show white people we have come a long way
they pretend that power is turned over to a powerless man simply because he can make a great speech
because deep down inside black people know that ain’t how the game is played
that white people give up nothing to black people BUT will use a black face to get the real work done and then let the black man take the fall
I hope I’m right when i say we know better than all this but just fell for the hype because we were desperate for another ‘black leader’
but I could be wrong
Paul,What are you talking about emenies choosing a leader. Americans choose Obama. You sound like you are still in the 40′s and 50′s era. talking that slang.
what are you talking about?
First of all, Americans didn’t ‘choose’ anybody. You voted for the hamburger with cheese instead of the cheeseburger
you made a choice out of the two choices you were GIVEN. You didn’t ‘choose’ the candidates. You didn’t finance the campaign. You simply marched into a booth and picked the cheeseburger you liked the best.
If you’re a black person (and if you’re not, then I get where you’re coming from trying to inject some BS into the argument) then you know that blacks in America are in terrible trouble, from job losses, to foreclosures, to police brutality, to schools closing, etc.
so let’s not pretend that racism is a thing of the past. In fact, it’s worse for black people than it was before integration because at least we knew what the problem was
now, we’re walking around suffering YET pretending that things are getting better and that a ‘first black president’ is the proof
but what did it prove when we didn’t pick him or finance him and he doesn’t address a SINGLE BLACK CONCERN
i’ve tried to explain (to the point of exhaustion) that he has addressed EVERY community but the black community but some folks are hooked on the fairy tale of inclusion
well, then they must face the consequences for lying to themselves and right now we are suffering because we refuse to see the truth of what is happening
whether YOU (or any other poster on this site) agrees with me does NOT CHANGE THE FACTS
I want someone for once to debate with the FACTS instead of all this emotion and anger.
If you support him, present your case. Present your reasons. Tell us what he has done and what legislation he has signed and what he has said that makes you think he supports black people at all.
I’m open to reading it. Thanks!
I am willing to bet this guy is muslim….
@ nedrea scott
now, because I disagree with you, I must be a Muslim. Does that mean you disliked Malcolm X? He was a Muslim. Do you dislike Minister Farrakhan? He’s a Muslim.
This is exactly what I’m talking about, not defending your point with any logic or facts, but going on an emotional attack.
But since you brought it up, what is wrong with being a Muslim? I am not nor am I white, I’m a black man, but I’m curious to hear your answer.
Onaje Asheber!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most Presidents have pimped off black people, Why don’t you do something about it and stop putting the Black President the USA have ever had and maybe the only one we will have DOWN.
Karroll
why don’t you tell Onaje why he should support him? Give us some reason by telling us what he has said to support black people, or what he has done.
All the screaming in the world will not support your case. Let’s hear your reasons other than he is
black
Ok Paul, go ahead and vote for those who have made their racism towards others very evident. SMH….I truly believe you are a muslim or some black nationalist from the way you speak…its okay to have difference of views, but I would be careful of the seeds I plant to others. They don’t need to read anything that would indoctrinate them not to support a REAL BLACK MAN, who is trying to make everything work for EVERYONE. I know what your problem is, you want him to focus ONLY on black people. You know what, I am GLAD his position does not permit him to do so, because black people are lazy. Want hand outs instead of a hand up. A hand-up means, I’ll tell you how to go get this and that, but I am not giving you anything tangible that you can go earn on your own. OH, I’m sorry, let me guess, its the Presidents fault that kids are still dropping out of school, OH, and its really the White man’s fault that I don’t want to go get a job to help pay child support and provide food for myself. Its the white man’s fault that I didn’t qualify for the higher position, but the Mexican over here does, because he works two and three jobs and has the experience from some of his other jobs. Paul H, all of these excuses, are just what you sound like. If black people’s lives are that messed up, then we need to do something about it. When you reach out to people for help, don’t look for a hand out, but a hand-up, and do something to help the Honorable Mr. president help you.
Then I assume you must not be black because if black people are lazy then you’re talking about yourself, correct?
Again, why do you support him? What has he said or done that makes you think he cares about black people? I’m just asking, and if you support him YOU should be able to answer that question.
Never said once that I would vote for Romney. I don’t believe in either party, both are controlled by the same people. Won’t be wasting my valuable time in November because it really doesn’t matter who sits in the White House.
Tone down the emotion and put on our thinking caps
we know Obama is not telling the most powerful white people in the nation what to do
we KNOW THIS, just like we know it’s true on our jobs
instead of getting angry with me (who hasn’t harmed anyone on this thread) you need to look in the mirror and ask yourselves
who gave me this “black leader?” and why would I think he’s working for me when the richest white people and corporations financed his campaign?
that’s what you should be thinking about instead of new ways to insult me
UM, ok, I am smh because READING IS FUNDAMENTAL. You apparently did not go back and read the first post I put up, which proves my point about black people. I AM AFRICAN IRISH NATIVE AMERICAN, and I am NOT operating off of emotion, just NOTHING you have said in ANY of your postings make no sense. AND FYI, I never dislike Malcolm Little X, or Farrakhan, but by me mentioning this, I have always noted that muslims are EXTREMELY racists, and claim that others are ignorant to black history when that is not the case. Forget the history, the real point is MOVE PAST THAT NOW AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES. Geesh!
Republicans Sabotaging The American People
Worser??
With that argument, Why did he single out the gays, Wall Street, The Auto Industry,(GM Motors)The Veterans, etc…. Obama made the promise that he would resurrect the Habeus Corpus, which would affect a lot of prisioners, what happended? Obama promised to end the wars, what happended? Obama said, “he believe a marriage should be between one man and one woman, what happended? Obama said he would help the middle class, what happended? Obama said, he had the CHANGE we could believe in,what happended? Gas prices, higher, food prices, and everything else.
Those that are leading the nation economy, the corporations, the rich and powerful. I call them “The Powers That Be” Had a meeting of the leading wealth of the nation, in this meeting they came up with the game plan, to cause hurt to the American economy, the lay offs, the un-employment, the drug wars, the immagration laws (which is all about cheep labor, not the human rights or immagration)the mass incarceration of the poor, mostly black Americans (a new form of slavery), the cuts in funding , the control of the worlds food supply, transportation and yes the cost of gas. All of this as a plan to never have another black President again. All of America’s Presidents have been white, families with strong ties to England, until this day America still pays taxes to England and we are a great part of England’s common wealth. Most of the American Presidents are or were Mason, with close ties to other secret organizations. These organization, not all, are bent on owning the world wealth and world domination. (You make not like what I’m saying; but all of it is true.) Please go back read the local news and study the history we made in the last 4 years to 8 years, you will see the clear picture, they want him to fail and they count on the American people not to see what is really going on; but There is a God who looks out for the poor, the fatherless and the widows, God will fight for us.
First of all you must understand that the President is under WHITE
control. By him being the first Black American President which the mainstream society disapprove of, it is very difficult for him to do anything to help the American people. If you know how the Legislations work, then you’ll get a understanding what I’m talking about. For example; This country was built on DEMOCRACY, not Dictatorship whereas whatever that Dictator says, goes. By him, the president can do more for this country if the Republican House would go along with his programs and also the Senate Minority which has already mention several times, (Mitch McConnell already stated” that his main priority was to make President Obama a one-term president.”
By trying to destroy him as much as possible by say NO! to every
proposal he request. So don’t him. Blame the racist Republican legislation.
Built on a Republic. Please do your home study. We were not a democrocy and legally not now. We are still a Republic.
Roy
My People, A house divided against itself can not stand. We must all stand together, LOL,,, Sad to say the only way we can get our people out to events now-days is with music, food and drinks…LOL. I hear people say President Obama has did nothing for our people. 1. He won the election 2. He fixed America’s economy after the crash of 08 3..He passed Health Care Bill – that will help black folks, poor folks, and all Americans- that is why the powers that be are fighting it, they don’t want you and I to have good health care benefits/ they want you to get sick and die, its more profit for them 4. He ended the wars we were fighting in 2 countries costing billions of dollars/ stopped a war with Koeria, must forgot about that? 5. He got BenLaudin the 1# most wanted in the world / no other President could do it, why because they were working with the terrorists tactic and took part in it to create this war on terror 6. He has put more money out here to help and create jobs, but all of this is being blocked by the congress and the house of representatives, the high courts and the rich and powerful who want us to pay their taxes, while they cuts funding to public schools to create Charter Schools, while they cut jobs to make President Obama look bad. 7. He is the only President that the whole world likes and understand as he healed America’s relationship with other countries. The list goes on and on, but I must tell my people, do not believe what you see and hear in the Media, dig deep into the facts yourself, they (News Media) are not working for the American people, they serve “The Powers That Be” Take a good look at what is really going on.
Those that are leading the nation economy, the corporations, the rich and powerful. Evelyn, I agree with you sister. I’m from Tulsa, OK, which is the 46th state in the Union, but the No. 1 most prejudice state in the Union. If people don’t get out and vote, people in Oklahoma is going to be in a world of trouble, it saddens me to know that Black people don’t have each others backs.
Due to the electoral vote, Republican Oklahoma did not vote for Obama, many Black people turned out to vote for Obama, what is sad many Black people in Oklahoma don’t vote at all.
I love my state, I just tell the truth when others want. I don’t agree with everything President Obama do, I will vote for him again, because the lives of Black People across this great nation is at risk.
I pray that God will help us all, it will take God to help us because we can’t depend on man.
Well said!!!!!!!
This is so true. Don’t leave it to chance – vote for Obama. At least your President has been trying to make things better on the domestic front with healthcare etc.
Here in the UK, we believe that if someone is sick or has an accident, the state should pay for them to be treated in hospital free of charge as a basic human right. We don’t believe people should just get sick and die because they can’t afford to pay for healthcare. Neither does Obama.
We let in the Conservatives (via the so-called Coalition) here in the UK two years ago. Right now they are trying to do away with our healthcare system, as well as race equality rights in the workplace, and to stop legitimate non-European Union, ie non-white people from living here with their families. They are eroding our rights – your next Republican government could do a lot worse.
I keep hearing that he can’t speak out too strongly for us, and I’ve said it as well, because he is supposed to be President of all the people, but that hasn’t prevented him from speaking out for the Hispanic community, or the so called LBGT community. Singing to us and ads like this don’t help. We need jobs, etc just like everyone else, and moreso than most. We need to hear something about how and what he will do if re-elected.
I don’t understand what the flap is all about. If this ad is being run on urban radio stations, this is the way everything else is advertised for the young urban listener. President Obama is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t. All the other ads are run on cable TV for general audiences.
Is he dumbing down when he includes “Si, Se Puede!” in his Hispanic ads?
Amen, let Obama alone 4 more years period!
I agree!! Also do you think the President of the United States is viewing all of the media that is being placed on the airwaves for him?! Really people! Get a clue. There are interns and volunteers creating these ads trying to cater to certain demographics, it clearly ruffled your feathers, but maybe it wasn’t for you. I wonder how many of you same people are upset about the negroes singing and dancing about McDonald’s or freaking tax returns…he can do no right. At this point you only have two candidates to choose from…the debates have not even begun and you are concerned about an ad you didn’t approve…really?! How about being concerned about the flip-flopper Mitt Romney who, in the middle of a recession tore down a multi-million dollar home to build a new one, who owns dressage horses with his wife and who has no similarity to the majority of the people he expects to vote for him. Stop getting distracted by the BS and focus on the issues. What Mr. President Barack Obama has done and is doing and with SUPPORT plans to do. His second term would gain automatic support, but no no no, we are concerned about a dumb a*s ad while he’s concerned about keeping people employed and covered with health care. The media is what it is, he does not control it. Let’s focus on the real issues here. #Obama2k12
Great point.. all to often WE expect perfection from our own while excepting mediocrity from others. If you think Obama isn’t doing enough for US, wait till Romney gets elected with the help of our inactivity. And takes us back to the Bush years or even further. WAKE THE FU#K UP BLACK AMERICA!!!!!!!
It will make no difference.
What is it black people think they are seeing?
What is different for us than during the last 8 Bush years?
I don’t get this fear of Republicans
both parties are the same
It’s people like this jerk Watkins that denigrates and criticizes only their own. he NEVER criticizes whites. He’s afraid of the consequences. Typical behavior. I don’t even see this as newsworthy.
Exactly. When I heard this ad I thought, “if African Americans find this ad offensive, we should also find most ads catered to us offensive.” Ford, Chevy, McDonalds, Exxon, Chevron and any other grp or person trying to get the attention of AA and/or our money should be ashamed of themselves. Black people who find it hard to vote for Obama are just as ignorant as White people who cannot seem to vote for Obama. Grow the h**l up Black people, and realize that this political game is an adult game, and we as Black Americans don’t seem to know how to play it very well. If we do not vote for Obama, we will continue to lose in America, and if any of you vote for Romney, we will continue to lose in America. Obama needs to do better for Blacks and all Americans, but he is 10xs more understanding of the needs of middle class and poor Americans than any GOP member. If you think life in America is hard for Blacks now, you just hold on to your vote, and let Romney get in the White House. Don’t allow ignorance and division to keep you from voting Black folks!
Give me a break. What was patronizing was when Romney traveled to the South declaring he liked grits y’all in his worst Beverly Hillbillies accent. If you think people are buying into the notion that Romney is a better alternative for African Americans you have to be smoking Meth. A man that adheres to a religion that teaches Black people have dark skin because of sin can’t see us as his equal. If people attack President Obama for his association with Wright, it’s beyond hypocrisy to not condemn an association with a religion that reached such ignorance. Wake up America. A governor who failed miserably at his job you want us to elect as President? Don’t forget President Obama handle the 3:00 am call wonderfully. Ask Bin-Laden. Oh you can’t because he has Bin Dead for a while now serving as fish food.
Well said August Saunders! Well said
August Sanders, you are very clever. I love your last two sentences.
We are all, black, brown, yellow, and white to believe that Washington, DC is for the working people. The USA is going down regardless of who is president. I am 75 and white. I was taught to look down on blacks until I had a wonderful experience with God. In the US Air Force in England I was placed in the room with 3 blacks. I was lowest ranked. I could not have been treated any better by my mother. These gentlemen talk me a valuable lesson. It is not the color of your skin, it is the color of your heart. Since that time I have stood up for ALL people when they stand for truth. I open doors for all colors. You know why? Because I beleive all ate my brothers and sisters. I know white, black and brown that are not very nice. I try to stay away from them, yet are kind in their presence. I will not be voting for Mr. Obama nor Mr. Romney. They do not represent the America I believe in. YOur opinions of the article are yours. I know mine. Blessings to all.
Roy
Why don’t we complain about the “jazzed up” Burger King,McDonald’s, Pinesol etc. I have complained for YEARS about these mindless approaches for our dollar but seemingly I am in a minority of complaintants. NOW of course we get mad! Wake Up Black Folks! Get mad at the RIGHT time.
I feel that way a lot of times also. You are not a minority. We have too much education and wealth now to allow anyone to continue to stereotype us. We are definitely being targeted now. It’s like it’s an all out attack on African Americans. I’m willing to boycott, sit-in or whatever! They (white people) still talk down to us like we have no brains whatsoever. Our President is a Harvard grad and still gets treated like he just came off the plantation. Let’s get it together people!
Yeah!!! What about the Jazzing up of New York? Thought there was no money.
I heard the ad. So whats the problem? Nothing silly was said. No offensive music was used. I don’t get the issue… Seems like you just want to be critical just because he is Black.
Like you I heard the ad and I think the message was just great, so what is the problem with Dr Boyce he sees to find something wrong with every sucessful black man in this country be they Hip Hop or the President of the United States.( Blacks Killing Blacks be it with a gun or with WORDS ) same thing.
it’s for urban radio…another distraction to divide us by good ol boyce! some people will complain if you hang em with a new rope!
43 million black people in the us and boyce show us 7 negative blogs to justify his quantum leap that barack obama’s campaign ad for african americans raised eyebrows.
as a phd, surely you know 7 people is not enough in the sample size for statistical significance to justify your statement that the ad raised eyebrows in the black community.
as in many of your manipulative articles, how many people did you survey to show significance that eyebrows were raised?
brother you need to quit!
Man you are so right
This man has a Phd and writes as though he has a GED.
I AM JUST GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF MY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERY d**n THING.
I’m assuming by your comment that you never complain?
and when Bush was the president, you didn’t complain?
trying to understand what you’re tired of black people complaining about…
Yes, that s right: President Obama cannot win. He can t even put salt in the biscuits to suit folks..If he goes to the left they ll want him to go to the right..If he says the sky is blue they ll say no it isn t it s gray..Just can t please folks. Black folks are always looking at the wrong thing..There is nothing wrong with the ad. Maybe we might need to look in the mirror.
I am unclear of what the problem is with the ad. It was not like the Mary J. Blige KFC commercial. C’mon Boyce give it a break – you stop trying to divide the people.
BK, I say, hear! hear!
HAHHHAAHA. “Weee’ve got youuur back”
Bwaahahaha!!!!!! You know we’ve got your back!
What.the.h**l? This feels like watching a break dancing movie back in the 80′s where the kids put on a dance entire hood to save their community center or club from bring torn down.
Boyce Watkins is a racist. As a black man, an ex-convict, a college graduate, a father, a motivational speaker, a christian & an American i’m vert proud of over 90% of the changes that Obama has made. I don’t agree with everything, but who does? Mr. Watkins, you teach & spew hate everyday, & it’s just as sick as believing in the views of the K.K.K. Then you teach young blacks to blame the white man for everything, instead of teaching them to stand together, & buy property. You need to take a long look in the mirror….
You are so right Frank! Boyce Watkins, Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are all great dividers. Instead of trying to bring blacks together, they spend their time doing everything they can to divide us. That’s why we as a race can never accomplish anything, we never stick together. Watkins, West & Smiley, if you can’t do or say something to help, then just SHUT UP!!
What are those changes, brother? Please enlighten us…
by the way, a black person cannot be a racist. Racism requires having power and systems to back up that power. Only white people can be racist.
black people can mistreat someone who is different but lack the power and systems to mistreat everyone who is different.
just because another black person doesn’t agree with everything Obama does doesn’t mean they should crawl under a rock.
I wish some of the folks on this thread would give some facts as to what Obama has actually voted for before condemning someone for expressing an opinion
MORE facts, less blind emotion
that’s why black people can’t get out this trap we’re in
everything is about how we ‘feel’ and not based on what we “think” and “analyze”
I didn’t hear Africa American I heard for the people. Why are you people giving this President a bad rap, no matter what you people just take and use this man intelligent like he’s stupid, but he’s not you gonna push him up against the wrong wall and he’s gonna nail your a***s to that wall. I think it’s time to stand with the President and not against him, he’s made mistake who hasn’t. His orders get veto so much and he’s been undermined to the point that people only heard what the media wants, and that’s so wrong!!!
TPOTUS(OBAMA) is a human being not THE ALMIGHTY!!! For all of you haters, If OBAMA walked on water you would still have something negative to say. How about becoming part of the solution, instead of the problem, or YOU CAN VOTE FOR MITT THE CHRONIC PATHOLOGICAL BIPOLAR SCHIZOPHRENIC AND THE CORRUPT REPUNKS. THEN, YOUR BEHIND WILL REALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO BEEOUCH ABOUT!!!
Man! You are so right
Seriously? What’s offensive about this ad? Nothing at all.
Its find neighing wrong with ad! We always got something to complain about.
I don’t get what the big deal is either, like most of the commenters on here. No one is shucking and jiving; no one is cheesing with a big grin on their faces while eating a slab of watermelon on a picnic table somewhere in “Da Hood”, USA.
I think Dr. Boyce guilty over-racializing everything which is why I don’t read half the stuff I get emailed. If there was an ad aimed at Black people narrated by some uppity, Bryant Gumble Negro with classical music playing in the background, people would be offended; if it was done by some rapper, people would be offended; if there was no ad at all, people would be offended. Yea, the chorus was kind of corny, but I think it was a descent ad directed at the YOUTH, much moreso than Black people as a whole. And as someone else stated, if he were playing Hispanic music speaking in Spanish, is he watering that down too? There are going to be ads directed at practically every cultural group in this country. I don’t see what the big deal about that is.
If this raises your eyebrow you must have just arrived in America. It is said everyday among AA “I got your back!” I told a friend that yesterday, we understand each other. Some people make there money or fame by finding fault or raising issues that do not exist. This is one of them. We you consider the the other guy and the future you would rethink any and all of your difference with Obama. We made a monster of a mistake with Bush, well here we are facing the same choice, let’s get real! Oh was that too urban for you!
WOULD YOU PLEASE FIND SOME REAL NEWS TO REPORT ABOUT? GIVE ME A FREAKIN’ BREAK! NOTHING IS RAISING EYEBROWS ABOUT THIS…..
The Ad did not raise my eyebrow, where is the stereotype? I was not offended,so please show me where the Ad is bad.
I don’t get it. I wasn’t offended and it was really any other type of ad I would hear on the radio. Whether it has a rock band, country or soul music in the background, I’ve hear these ads all the time. Where’s the stereotyping? Sighs. Must be a slow news day.
It really seems to me that Dr. Watkins always has something negative to say or post about President Obama. There was nothing wrong with this add considering the audience it is being played to. Believe me, the President is using professional publicist that know what they are doing. If you pay attention to adds that are aired on television, depending on the time of day, station, and particular audience, the add changes to fit the consumer. There are far too many distractions about President Obama, and it’s even worse when a mass majority of them are coming from the African American media outlets! We continue to play out the “crabs in a bucket” theory, and then we wonder why after more than 400 years we are still as bad off! My suggestion to Dr. Watkins and any other media outlet, find productive things to air, comment on, and reveal to your following audiences, or else join the other media outlets that specialize in critiquing, criticizing, and condemning the African American race!
I applaud President Obama for reaching out to all demographics. I got his back and all that lol nonsense needs to stop along with you Dr. Boyce.
All demographics but the black one.
it’s amazing that so many on this thread have totally ignored that Obama has totally ignored the black community
and if i’m wrong tell me ONE TIME that Obama held a town hall meeting in a black area
or one time when he held his educational summit at the black chamber of commerce (like he did with the Hispanic chamber of commerce)
or talked with Hispanics about resolving the immigration issue
or one time when he said to black people that he was going to address any issue that affected black people
like he’s said to the white community, the Jewish community and promised to support Israel, and even the homosexual community by endorsing homosexual marriage (an oxymoron)
and please include the source and the link
see all this attacking people who disagree needs to be backed up with the FACTS. Otherwise, this is just more over-emotional rhetoric from black people.
Yep, I’m unsubscribing from this site. N dings does it every day…visa had break dancers in a commercial (none of which were black or brown), all major corporations do it…but when a person of the same group does it, it’s a problem???? That’s like saying “people are raising there eyebrows because ford uses country music to sell their pick up trucks…southerners should be outraged!!! Gtfoh
True North
We all need a true north emblematic of the north star that will always be there to guide you no matter what. My true north is when I think about a lowly slave. A man who has to watch the slave master rape is wife, reap the rewards of his labor, and watch his babies get abused and sold. I imagine what that slave (or share cropper like my grandfather) would think if he knew that one day there would be a Black President. Then I wonder what he would think about the penny smart and pound stupid criticism launched by other blacks. Folks, don’t let these people make you focus on dirty dishes while the house is burning down (VOTE OBAMA). This man has had to walk a narrow line and face racial adversity at every turn. Any one of us with a job can relate.
OKAY???? Whats the big deal?
Don’t you get it Dr. this ad is for the Tom Joyner/Steve Harvey Group not the Tavis Smiley/Cornnel West (15.5% unemployed Blacks that the President don’t acknowledge:But push thru the Dream /immigation act for hispanics/ the don’t ask-don’t tell elimination/the approval of same s*x marriage for gays)group
All these Obama drones in here blindly defending President Obama ignoring black people until it’s time to get re-elected again. Now that’s offensive!! I’m not offended by the ad I’m offended that President Obama considered the issues of every single voter in America EXCEPT BLACK VOTERS. Now that’s something to blog about and be offended by.
TAKE TIME TO READ THE AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE ACT (AKA)OBAMA-CARE AND ALSO TAKE TIME TO READ WHAT THE BAILOUT DID FOR LOW INCOME PEOPLE, WHOSE MOSTLY BLACK, THEN PRESENT YOUR ARGUMENT WITH FACTS NOT HYPERBOLE. YES, HE IS THE POTUS OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE,BUT IF YOU REALLY HAVE A CAUSE TO PROMOTE YOUR ISSUES, DO LIKE THE GAYS DID MAKE HIM RESPOND. IN THE 60′S PRESIDENT JOHNSON TOLD DR KING IF HE WANTED HIM TO PASS THE CIVIL RIGHTS BILL THEN, DR KING HAD TO MAKE HIM. HOW ABOUT THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON AUG. 28, 1963. ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS!!!
I didn’t hear anything in the ad that’s offense!!!
I have lost so much respect for black people as a whole with the election of President Obama. The blind defense of a black president who hasn’t done anything specifically for black people, and the overall lack of objectivity towards any critique is why black folk cannot hold politicians accountable. Why should anybody try to woo African-American voters when they are so simple and easy to please in the first place? Just some throw some steotypical “black music” in an ad on black radio is all the love black folk need to vote for him! The h**l with addressing black poverty or black unemployment.Oh, but he got time to make sure white women get fair pay and Gays the right to marry though.
Les
Are you a black person? A white woman,or a gay person wanting to marry your same s*x “life partner”
Cultural marketing has always been a large part of business. If your respect of an entire race of people was dependent on a presidential election, you are one I would consider very short sighted and uninformed.
it is tragic that so many black people are such blind followers and when anyone dares to present the real evidence they attack the person.
No one on this thread who blindly supports Obama has presented ONE FACT as to what he has done. I have posted numerous examples — all of which can be googled — as to how Obama has addressed every single community BUT the black community.
but many don’t care about the facts, they care about keeping the fantasy alive and telling themselves that they are better off
but my money says that the majority of black people on this thread are NOT doing better, they’re doing worse
Not because of Obama, he’s not in charge, so there’s no use blaming him
however, what sense does it make to give ANY politician your full support without expecting or asking for anything in return?
can you eat a ‘first black symbol’?
can you live under a symbol?
can you go to work and feed your children a ‘symbol’?
what are we teaching our children? To support someone who does not support them?
Kind of reminds me of Jim Jones and how black people blindly drank the poisoned kool-aid because someone they believed in told them to.
Is that got-to-vote.com or gotta-vote.com. I could have sworn I heard the words gotta a couple of times. Really! Another put down for the Black Community. But I get it we as Black people could not handle the words(Got To Vote) no we had to listen to the Ebonic Dance Version. This is just another slap in the face discriminatory Ad pure and simple. It has nothing to do with being Bougie or thinking your better then the next Black person. This should have been a Professional well thought out commercial but then again for the Obama Campaign to release this Ad it’s obvious they did not give a d**n.
Maybe I missed that commercial. The one I saw was only music and Obama speaking. Did the ad have any black people dancing in it?
The president is a millionaire now, whats that tell you hommes? Black is his skin, but the bigger the bank account the bigger the gap to regular people. So look at the choice you got! To me it is a good example of the rich ruling them of us that is left!I see it just like in the plantation days, not much has changed.
LET ME ASK THIS QUESTION…..WHAT IS IT THAT HE, THE PRESIDENT, IS SUPPOSED TO DO FOR “BLACK PEOPLE?” And what is the “SOMETHING” that he is supposed to do?! I see nothing wrong with that ad. He also have ads out with The Roots! Not one mention of that! Guys we have got to stop this black, white mess! We are all human! AND WHERE ARE THE DANG PEOPLE THAT DON’T LIKE CHICKEN, WATERMELON AND GRAPE SODA???!!!
WHAT THE PRESIDENT SUPPOSE 2 DO IS BE A MAN! HE CAN NOT SAVE US WE SAVE OURSELES! EXTEND UR EDUCATION – PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN – GET RID OF THOSES 40′S – GET OFF THE CORNERS DOING THINGS NOT LEGAL! THAT’S WHAT WE’RE SUPPOSE 2 DO! I’M GLAD I’M SINGLE BLACK MALE W/NO KIDS SPENT MY TIME IN THE ARMY AND LIVE VERY WELL! COME ON BROTHER’S KEEP UR DICKS IN UR PANTS AND GET WHITE FOLKS FROM TRYING 2 DOWN US! GET UP IN THE MORING W/A PURPOSE!
I’m not particularly an Obama fan (I’m not a politics guy, so I’m not a fan of any of them), but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this ad. Dr. Boyce says the ad uses “a great deal of slang,” but where is this slang? I was expecting to hear “yo, y’all n****s gots ta vote fo’ my n***a Obeezy! He be gettin’ s**t done, son!” or something like that, but all I heard were soundbites with perfect English backed by a funky little beat. The only things that could even be considered slang are the phrase “we’ve got your back” and the word “gotta” that’s in the website they mention. This is obviously an ad for urban radio is no different from any other corporate ad you’ll hear on your local Hip-Hop/R&B station. What’s the big deal?
Please! Let’s ALL of us “Drones” stop reading “Your Black World” wit Boyce Watkins. Because it is NOT my Black World, or yours (if you’re really black). I am so sick and tired of the jealousy displayed here. President Obama has enough opposition from the right wing, he doesn’t need it from his own people (talking about the left wing). President Obama, I got your back! And it’s not because you’re black, but because you have accomplished so much and have so much more to accomplish (certainly more than haters like Watkins, West and Smiley). I can imagine that if we get a democratic House, Senate and President, WOW! Things would surely change, for EVERYONE for the best. God Bless our President!
What’s wrong with a targeted message? The commercial is not as bad as the blog headlines infers.
I meant “headline infers” not “headlines infers.”
I didn’t hear anything that was offensive. However, the could have kept the Pips out of the background.
Its not a good ad, but its not like “Da bomb” from Bamboozled.
Its an attempt at attracting the Black vote. Its a little condescending in that its not about “I know I haven’t done much your way, but I will in the next cycle” rather it just makes a statement and expects everyone to be happy about it. Not sure if I am fully articulating the feeling. Bottom line not offensive, just a bad ad.
Not surprising that many folks don’t get it. Just like we didn’t “get it” when Obama talked down to us during the last campaign
and told us to stop feeding our kids fried chicken
and told blacks to stop complaining and “take responsibility.”
No other community was talked down to like that. Poor whites were not told to stop feeding their kids ‘spam.” and take responsibility.
Poor Hispanics were not told to stop feeding their children “tacos” and take responsibility.
What is most surprising to me is how many black folks haven’t noticed that the black community — which is suffering more than any other community in the U.S. — has been totally ignored by the Obama administration.
He has addressed the needs of Hispanics, Jews, working class whites, Israel, and even the homosexual community. He was the first U.S. president to host a Jewish seder. He held an educational summit at the Hispanic business group meeting and has attended Hispanic music festivals. He has attended rallies and ‘town meetings’ in white areas. He was even the first U.S. president to endorse homosexual marriage (sic).
but when it comes to us?
silence
Other than Trayvon Martin, he has said nothing about the thousands of black youth who are shot and or murdered by police or by street crime. Nothing about black unemployment. Nothing about police brutality. Nothing about black schools closing and black people losing their homes to foreclosure.
There have been no ‘town hall meetings’ in the black community.
No attending music festivals in the black community
and NO talk about racism against black people all over the planet.
I guarantee you, we will be talked down again during this upcoming campaign and told to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” and “take responsibility” — and most of you will fall for it and think he’s talking about “other’ black people — not you.
My point is we are being PIMPED by the white Democratic party. And sadly, once a people allow themselves to be pimped and agree to get nothing in return
they got nothing coming
But if Clinton, Bush or Reagan had said the same thing would you say the same. Was it Ok when Reagan said that ketchup was a vegetable and should be fed to kids in the lunch programs? NO, because you and the small cadre of Blacks still have the plantation mentality. Get lost swiftly please. You fit in so well with Smiley, West, and the GOP. Beat it!!!
Sorry, I have the right to post my opinion same as you on this PUBLIC blog, so I will not be taking your advice and getting ‘lost’
Just because I question the rationality (and sanity) of people who blindly support any President — be he black or white — doesn’t mean I give white people a pass.
In fact, white people STILL control the White House and it’s time for black people to stop pretending that anything has changed.
No Rasil, you have it a little backwards. It’s a plantation mentality when you don’t THINK for yourself, and allow the white people in power to use you.
Just like slaves on the plantation were programmed by the white slave-owners to worship a white Jesus, I see the same thing has happened with blacks who BLINDLY follow a black man who is controlled by the same White power system — and attack other ‘slaves’ who question the wisdom of following anyone who is not acting in their best interests.
What I find interesting is those who attack my post don’t attack it with FACTS or LOGIC, they attack it with emotion.
If I’m wrong about the FACTS I posted, then correct me and give me the source. Otherwise…
Your facts are fine. Although isn’t Mrs. Obama who wants people to stop feeding their kids unhealthy food??
Politics is SHOW BUSINESS
All the First Ladies had to get out in the public and promote “women’s issues”
If you remember, there was a press conference about two years ago when President Obama announced that his wife was heading up the kids obesity program and she gave him a look that would kill
I suspect, because this educated, professional black woman did not want to play that typical “first wife” role of only concerning herself with ‘household issues”
What we are looking at is simply a stage play
and it doesn’t matter WHO is the president
What I don’t understand is the movies reveal how the world of politics really work
and black and white people will sit there in the theater or in front of the TV set and see the real deal of how it’s about lying and manipulating and putting on a false public face and how the world of politics is pure corruption
and then when they find a POLITICIAN they like
they forget all that and act like they are brand new
I just don’t get it
we know a black man ain’t running S in America
not because we’re inferior but because the white man is not giving up his power
like Malcolm X said, nobody gives you power, you have to take it
Obama was “given” the illusion of power but the same people who controlled Bush and Clinton control him
look at his cabinet, filled with former Federal Reserve bankers, and former people who served Bush and Clinton
come on people, take the blinders off before we get led over the cliff
I agree stop the attacks on this man, the whole problem with our people as a whole, we have the worst tendency to always criticize our brothers and sisters, not seeing the good they do. This man is a husband first, a father, a leader, a great speaker, a realist, a helper, I could go on and on….it’s time out, we need to stop asking for special privilages and make those privilages happen, it’s enough of our people who are financially blessed to bless communities that are impoverished. What happen to the notion, each one reach one? We are not reaching out to our own people why should we expect the government to do what we won’t do ourselves…..I’m sick, sick, sick let’s get real my people. We are not raising our villages anymore, no one is looking out for one another, we are killing each other at break neck speeds….come on now…they bring the guns to our neighborhoods, the drugs go in the same direction, why have we become the public dumping ground for the bureaucratic waste? Get up, wake up and get involved in stopping the madness that’s going on in our country. Aren’t you tired of our black kids dying from gun shots, drug od’s and other mess…get out and vote for the change that can and will make a difference….keeping your head buried in the sand won’t do anything for anyone especially yourselves…
Any chance that you’ve considered that all the problems you’ve mentioned have happened in the black community SINCE the implementation of the Welfare society. When black fathers no longer were needed because the governement paid the bills…well that’s when things started to fall apart. We need some men to stand up and do the right thing…and do it publicly. Someone to grab these young men and shake them up.
YAWN!!!….this Obama hatin is getting BOOOOring!!! How should the ad have been presented?….hmmm….lets think about that….I know …he should have had the symphony in the background with Rush Limbaugh doing the commentary….is that politically correct for you? Or instead of the symphony he should have gotten Watkins,West and Smiley to sing “we got your back”…yeah way back!!!…get a life for real!!
Another thing, it’s not a bad ad, it does what it wa made to do, sends a message and rather than listen to the music, I was listening to the message…another bad thing about our people…we don’t listen to nothing but hear everything the wrong way…..I’m not saying all our people do it but the majority do….Oh how I wish that we had some of our old pioneers still in the game…
Nothing wrong with the ad
Keep in mind no matter what this President says or does,
someone is going to complain. Oh and they complain whenever
he reaches out to Black people or Black people express support for
him. You may recall how upset some people were when he reached out
to Trayvon Martins parents. Beloved Black people Colin Powell and Oprah Winfrey were declared racist simply for endorsing Barack Obama.
Visit our website http://www.uniteus.com to recycle black dollars.
Some call it racist, to encourage people to spend more
with Black businesses and help create more jobs in our community. I call it survival.
Re: the facebook comments. I much prefer the harmonizing of Take 6
over the n-word use promoting Jay Z.
Dr. B your to smart to bring up something that stupid!!!
let’s hope that all democrats, independents, left wing republicans and all undecided voters go the polls in Nov and “have our president’s back”…. Let stop making mountains out of mole hills…
ONCE AGAIN!!!!! We don’t move forward because we want to spend all of our time ripping ‘each others’ throats out!!!! It’s sickening. Stop the ignorance. You don’t just step into the presidency and change the world in 6 months!!!! Bush didn’t leave him much to work with and he was given 8 years! Everything Obama tries to do gets voted down because the opposition has greater numbers because too many morons didn’t bother to vote for congressmen, senators and governors that would support him. And now we’re doing EXACTLY what the opposition always counts on us to do and that’s turn on each other. “I ain’t supporting him”. He ain’t do nuthin’ for me!” is exactly want the Republicans wanna hear and while they’re at it they’ll throw in a dose of voter suppression in as many states as possible to stop folks from voting and kick in a whole lotta money on top. Divide and conquer. You’re doing exactly what they want and you call yourselves ‘free’.
This ad sucks big time as it plays down the total black populations that he Mr. President will make sure that welfare is there for you. Where’s the jobs you open the doors for the white folks, turn your back on Wall Street CEO’s making billions of dollars daily by cheating the general population…
Mr. President you remind of a good house n****r during slavery. You were brought into the house as a yes, n****r and now you think that you are better than the field hands and when they let you. You find time to clown around as thought your are rooted in our society. I have to give it to you Mr. President you are good and two face individual and that fits the bill for politics. Black people wake up and see that this man has the same skin tone on the outside, but on the inside he’s another color, my friend….
I understand what you’re saying but keep in mind that he was (s)elected to be the scapegoat for a bad economy. The real people in power want blacks and whites to blame Obama when Obama is just a figurehead.
I know this REALITY will make some black folks angry, but truth is truth. We know deep down that white people do NOT let black people take their power. We know deep down that the most powerful white people in the country are NOT taking marching orders from a black man.
We know this because we see it every day on our jobs. We work with white people who will not take orders from a black manager or supervisor. Now just imagine the most powerful white people who have a million times more money than Obama taking orders from Obama
that is NOT the real world
but many black people have fallen for the okey-doke because they want to believe the fairy tale, forgetting that it’s a lie that will destroy you, not the truth.
I don’t blame Obama for the economy or anything else because he is not making the decisions. Just like I don’t blame the car that ran over my child, I blame the one driving the car.
it’s time for black people to use our heads and stop being misled by our emotions – or face the consequences and losing our heads.
I personally don’t care about offending anyone (and obviously from the other posts on this thread, neither do you)
but I admire anyone who has the guts to stand up against all the people who are cult-like in their worship of a politician, forgetting what all politicians are:
POLITICIANS
I believe one day some will open their eyes and realize they were duped and used but i hope it will not be too late to undo the damage done to a people so willing and so eager to be lied to
The ad is kind of ghetto, then so are all those McDonald’s commercial saying “I’m loving it.” Those ads are far more offensive than this one and McDonald’s has insulted us far more than this president, selling products they know aren’t good for their customers-and they have a black CEO.
Obama…I cannot ever imagine what its like to walk in your shoes…may God continue to bless you and your family. If you are elected to another four years know that this American-African will continue to pray and lift you up to the Lord that can make a way out of no way!!! I pray wisdom..strength and courage cover you as you lead this country and I pray that Jesus will guide you to continue to stand up for ALL injustice and inequality in this country and abroad!!….God bless you President Obama and God bless America!!!
For the record, I don’t dislike President Obama. In fact, I believe he is being used to take the blame and be the scapegoat for the whites in power. That being said, it is still clear that nothing has changed for black people with the ‘election’ of a black president.
In fact, things have gotten worse — not because Obama is president — but because the same people are in power, and those same people pulled the puppet strings of Geo Bush and Clinton. That is my point.
Black people need to stop being so emotional and learn to be more logical. Study our history. Study the history of how power is won and lost. Real power is never just given away. Real power is never obtained via the ballet box when the people who count the ballets control the vote.
a thinking person listens to other points of view to see what is valid instead of blindly dismissing anything that does not jibe with what you WANT to believe. That is not how intelligence is built, that is the foundation of living in ignorance.
Some food for thought
“The two parties have combined against us to nullify our power by
a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ of non-recognition, no matter how we vote …May God write us down as a***s if ever again we are found putting our trust in either the Republican or Democratic Parties.” — W.E.B. Dubois (1868-1963)
——————
“The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea… Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy”
(Georgetown University Professor Carroll Quigley, Tragedy and Hope, 1966.)
—-
meaning that the two parties are controlled by the same people. That the candidates are controlled by the same people. And the candidates are chosen based on their ability to woo (and fool) the masses.
If we ever hope to get off the slave plantation, we must stop blindly following plantation politics and DEMAND EVERY POLITICIAN -BLACK OR WHITE –EARN OUR VOTE instead of just giving it away cause a brother or sister is ‘cool.”
Make Obama and ALL any other candidates SAY what they are going to do for black people to get our vote. All black people asked for last time was ‘just be black, bro’ and that’s all we got.
if you think that means i’m slamming Obama, then so be it.
He probably did approve this message, but I dont think he chose the genre of music. Do you think the President of the United States of America has time to pick out music for ads. He has people that are paid to do this. Maybe they made the wrong choice of music. For some of us that are high brow maybe this music is beneath you, so forget about it.Its the message that counts. For the people that say their not going to vote for President Barack Obama this is what the republicans want you to do. Then your actions will write a check your a*s cant cash. I know you cant relate to the lattetr. The author of this article needs to go conquer a hard one like why the incarceration rate of African-American men is much higher than any other race, band together with other black jornalist on this cause and stay on it. I am unsubscribing from the black blue dog.
Yall are a bunch of house Negro’s Obama hasn’t done anything for Black America .
Wake up people statistic show Black’s do better when Repub are in office .
The message may get the attention of many who otherwise may not have listened to a mainstream one .Perhaps prompt those young voters to be, just go out and register, vote, and save all those positive inroads that are in place done so by this progressive minded president.
With his needing votes from a wide spectrum of voters to defeat Mr.Willard ( Mitt Romney ) who is out of touch with the real issues facing many people living in this country, and has stated clearly HE WILL Immediately upon being elected ROLL BACK much of what the current president has put in place .
Does Mr.Mitt Romney, know there are POOR people living in AMERICA ?
Has he taken CASH MONEY from his pocket and given to any REAL POOR Person while on his campaign TO RULE ?
KING ROMNEY, Will play practical jokes on the already depressed job market. Will he phase out the postal service completely ? Will the mail than be outsourced to some foreign country ? How will his Bain experience translate to the oval office ? Further downsizing of other industries that are currently doing well on AMERICAN soil ?
A Vote For The President Is A Vote For An All Inclusive America. That I want to believe .
Why do we continue to be so gullible? It is obvious that this is NOT an official campaign spot from President Obama’s team. It has nothing to do with “FORWARD,” the official campaign theme. This is more dirty political tricks.
Let’s commit to stop jumping on bandwagons of emotion people. And Black/Blue Dog and Dr. Boyce Watkins should at least vet the source before “reporting” things like this.
Geeeeesh.
You know, you can always tell an Obama hater because they are woefully silent when the president makes progress, but seize upon anything they can, for example this, to trash him with.
I was expecting to see Step-n-Fetchit in black face.
Instead all I heard was a song with a lot of base and then him talking campaign promises.
Stop being silly.
It doesn’t matter really what Obama says or does, someone some where is going to have an opinion, there is nothing wrong relating to a group of people so they will know what you are about. Politicians do this all the time, they go around kissing babies, rubbing elbows and shaking hands to get votes. If a person thinks that he is dumbing down his speech to reach an audience, then I say to that what has Congress done over the past 50 years to make sure that education is equal in both urban and suburban areas, doesn’t seem like a whole lot, and this has been an issue way before Obama was even elected. With that look how we run businesses here in America, we cater to the consumer, so what’s the difference?
When the candidate is white male most blacks vote simply because the person is democrat, but with Obama all the rules change. Many said Clinton was the first black president, now that we actually have an African American President self hate has shown its ugly face. d**n I’m glad I think outside the box. At times I vote republican, and at other times I vote democrat, but I am always black.
All politicians are the same..
AMEN
The crazy thing is if you had told anyone on this thread that you trusted politicians before Obama ran for office
they would have looked at you like you were a D fool
There was absolutely nothing wrong or offensive about this ad. What blacks need to realize at this time is just how devastating it would be under a President Romney and stop stressing over something so trivial as one campaign ad. This is already a historic election, President Obama is the nation’s first African-American chief executive; Mitt Romney will soon be the first Mormon within one step of the White House. Romney grew up knowing nothing but a white world although his father George Romney was known as a friend to the civil rights movement of the 1960′s (ironic I know). Be that as it may Mormons believed black people were the devil until 1978. Mitt Romney was a Mormon missionary prior to 1978, what did he teach and/or believe and maybe still believe concerning blacks? Hmmm? President Obama at this time is being attacked by all sides not just the Republicans. All of the sudden he is being attacked by the Clinton devotees and if we (blacks) join in with the racist GOP against him he will have no chance. Why do these people a favor such as this? All we are doing is helping them save money by not having to utilize their plans for voter suppression in the black community. They are not just attacking President Obama, they are attacking Maxine Waters and Eric Holder as well, they have already attacked Charles Rangel and Rev.’s Jeremy Wright, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. Why are we so willing to give these people another chance to ruin this nation? Voting for Romney is no different than politically resurrecting George W. Bush back into the White House. Mitt Romney cares very little for the American people, especially blacks. Why are we belly aching over the music used in a campaign ad when so much more is at stake? Think of this and I’m gone, if Romney is elected he would merely be a Republican figurehead. The ones actually running the country would be the likes of Karl Rove, the super rich racist Koch brothers, and the tea party people, the same people who have declared that they want their (whites only) country back. Let’s not allow our future to be given to them by thinking with a crab mentally, I for one will work to re-elect President Obama despite the kind of campaign ad he chooses to use or not use.
Quitcher beatchin already. The only folks who are complaining are folks who have been complaining all along and NOT WORKING.
And quit playing word games with these white folks who come on here disguised as blacks, and their black friends who
get paid to target black websites and stir up trouble.
Watch out for the TROLLS. I like this video and I don’t get what in the world could possibly be wrong with it.
He ain’t good enough for white folks cause they’re racist and he ain’t good enough for black folk because he ain’t “black enough.”
Black folk need to see another Ronald Reagan in office so they can have another one who totally ignores the heck out of black folks, period–and announces to the whole country that lynching is okay again, like he did in the 80s. Maybe that will make some of us feel better. It will be familiar ground and we’ll have something else to whine over.
This porcupines in a crab barrel mess is getting sickening. That’s why white folk talk about us and dog us out the way they do … nothing’s ever good enough, we eat up all the food then complain about how bad it tasted, don’t know what we want, where, why, when or how … and always lopping around not working and swearing somebody owes us something.
Obama 2012. Baby. I’ve got his back.
And what y’all need to be complaining about is Madea running all over the movie world with dumb white girls, Popeye’s commercials with fat black women who need to go on a diet peddling chicken, and the way television ridicules black people with shows like “Soul Man” and those two not-funny Ghetto characters played by Ced & Niecy … and that overly-bourgeiosie mess on BET … now THAT’S stereotyping.
Who came up with this campaign ad anyway? Maybe it was a contest campaign designed by a young black person to be aimed at YOUNG black people, because I’ve been listening to all of the ads … and all of those are targeted to black people, too.
I’ve haven’t seen one campaign ad where President O’s people weren’t talking to US, too. Aren’t we Americans? Good. Now GET TO WORK. We’ve got a country to raise!
This phony stuff, while genocide goes down in Afrika and the so-called middle east. The reality is poor black people in the hood and the ones trapped in these updated slave camp prison plantations lose period still.
Black’s have blind faith and are be tricked with all this lesser of the 2 evils talk.
Black’s will lose with him or the white guy.
look like some kid in a basement studio cooked this up . But then again this IS WHAT WE DESERVE. WE ARE NOT A UNITED PEOPLE SO WHAT EVER WE ARE DISHED, WE LAP IT IP , LIKE MONGRELS.
This ad is at best bull…. look at what he is actually doing. NDAA, Economy, H.R. 347 destroying the bill of rights bailing out big banks. Paid blacks no mind and as soon as it is time for reelection oh lets put out that coonery ad as of relation to the blacks because that is the only time when our vote is needed. He is funded by the same sponsors that funds Romney so the pickings of two lesser evils is eminent. Get rid of the fed, support the 10th amendment, collectively get rid of the hydrofluoric that is contaminating our water which is in fact the cause of mostly all diseases, eat organic not Monsanto products, and if necessary revert to the silver or gold standard because this fiat business is imploding the economy on purpose by the federal reserve. Wake up people! there are natural cure for HIV aids, cancer, the frustration of seeing people actually march in the aids walk is ridiculous this is man made lab immune deficiency.
What in the h**l is wrong with some folks ? theres nothing wrong with the ad,i think its pretty good .I,m just thankful that he did,nt employ some stupid dumb rapping fools saying n****r we got your back that would be dumbing african americans down or maybe some african americans would have liked hearing that in the ad instead .I can,t believe that some black folks are this stupid ,what they think obama is going to solve everything over night? Did,nt he get the healthcare reform bill passed? did,nt he kill bin laden in that pointless war started by bush, that even bush could,nt finish and was costing america millions?Do black folks actually think that the mormen dude romney gives a flying c**p about black folks.Big up Obama for a second term. All the self hating white a*s kissing negro types can drop dead for all i care.
Why is it that, we as African-Americans, expected Obama to be a “superman” once he got elected? He has spent his first three and a half years TRYING to cleanup ten years of Republican mess!! If a white President had done what he has, we would be praising him to high heaven!! We need to get a life and help him get a second term so he can finish the job!!
We should remember that EVEN before the man was sworn in, Republicans were already meeting to devise a plan to keep him from suceeding at ANYTHING!! They have done a good job too!! Tavis Smiley, Dr. Cornel West and even Dr. Boyce Watkins should face the facts of what President Obama has had to deal with. Yes, he has made some mistakes, but what President hasn’t!! Review Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush’s record!!
Dannyboy…I LOVE YOU!!! haha! GREAT Comment!
If black people are being mistreated by this government
why would they let the same government pick their ‘black leader?”
just curious
All you negroes btching and moaning about the POTUS
Please vote for the Repub and STFU.
I bet NONE OF YOU would fix your mouth to expect anything from a white president, let alone a Repub, because you already know how they feel about you ‘whiny blacks.’
Most of you idiots would cut off your noses to spite your face!
Shut up and learn to think for yourselves!
Well, I don’t see anything wrong with this ad. The music is not rap, but it’s kind of old school. LOL! But, what is the problem? I have to agree with the people who say Dr. Boyce is always finding fault with AA whether the President, or someone in Hollywood. Dr. Boyce is a very negative person it seems. Or maybe it is just to get attention, and make money from his articles. But, whatever it is, we all had better vote for POTUS! OBAMA 2012!!!
We still have a few elite African-Americans, who call themselves “Black-Americans” still jealous that a young fellow African American is President of US and the world. These include Alan Keyes, Wiley Drake, Markham Robinson, Allen West, Herman Cain, Cornel West etc. These have been mentally hurt that Obama managed to bring people of all races together and continues to so today. There are also a few right-wing lunatics such as Sheriff Arpaio, Malkin the Chicago woman, who go around on speaking engagement money lying to people about President Obama birth certificate. I am suggesting they check themselves into mental hospital before November 6. It will hurt them more when President Obama is re-elected.
I think we should keep in mind the huge mountain of c**p the President inherrited with the white house. And I refuse to believe that I’m the only one who noticed the negative campaign the republicans have had aimed against the President since he took office.. They want to make us believe that he has done nothing, when in fact he has been trying to clean up their mess since taking office.. Not to mention that he is responsible for the capture and death of those responsible for causing this country one of its greatest losses. I’m just saying he is one man trying to fix or clean up a mess that it took 2 men 16years to create. We have a President whom can relate and that frightens republican America.. Don’t allow them to divide and concur, stand and support our President…
President Obama’s father is African while his mother is White American. This makes President Obama African-American just like all Americans of African descent. In fact President Obama bridged the missing link between America and the rest of whole world. You may remember after then Senator Obama won the presidency, people of all colors and creed all over the world cried for joy. People danced in Africa S Sahara, Asia, England, Germany, China, Japan, Russia, Empty, Turkey, Libya, Morocco, Malaysia, Italy, France, Canada, etc. All cried for joy. You could see tears flowing down from their eyes. You remember Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Ted Kennedy and other prominent people – all couldn’t hold their tears of happiness. What a day it was! History was made. And what a day will be again this November when President Obama wins 2nd term. Please join me to vote for President Obama in November.
If Obama would GIT RID of the crooked EEOC who only hands out right to sue letters to minorities when being forced to resign from their civilian government jobs…SURE I would vote for him again. But they still exist and they are the ones who his wife Michelle’s best friend is the chair lady over. h**l NO! They ruined my 16 year career and they are still there to ruin others. SORRY! Not this time around. No one gets my vote this year or any other year as long the EEOC remains.
EEOC is there to protect big businesses and the govt.
Mustafa? By any chance are you in the Bay Area of California?
Let me say to those of you who have declared that you will not vote for OBAMA: Keep in mind that “A no vote is a vote for the opposition.”
That is how the political system works.
Then to those who are sharing their opinions without having done their homework: There is an old adage which reads:
“Those who tell generally don’t know; and those who know generally won’t tell.” That’s another way of saying, we all have an opinion; we are entitled to it, and it’s never open to argument; even though scholars do enjoy a healthy debate.
However, “A fool is sombody who does not know, but does not know that he does not know; shun him.”
To those who do their homework: I did not find the Ad offensive or stereotypical. Brother Mustafa (above) spoke well. I concur with him 110%
Lastly, There is general agreement that our President is the Leader of the Freeworld; and that transcends the Black Community. Those who are waiting for him to “reach out a helping hand to “his Peeps,” Keep in mind that you get out of this system what you put into this system.
Whether you believe it or not, there is a direct correlation between the work that you do and the pay you receive; regardless of the reasons you have for not getting involved.
If any of you chooses not to support the President for a second term, just make certain that you vote. That will help you to recognize who is to blame when the economic bottom falls out of America.
Thanks for listening (reading).
Dr. King would support and vote for President Obama re-election. First President Obama is family man. King would give him A+. President Obama believes in GOD and is not biased against any religion. President Obama loves people regardless of their race. If you visit the Obama in the WH please behave as normal person – do not bad-mouth Blacks because Obama’s father is black. Do not bad mouth Whites – because Obama’s mother is white. President Obama appointed first Black US Attorney General. CEOs fear this guy – Racists know if a discrimination case comes to his desk he takes action. Some GOPers and TEA Partiers are calling AG office – Harlem. But little people like me are now safer – we have a tough US AG. Obama appointed quite a few Blacks as federal judges. We have a black woman at United Nations and several Black ambassadors. King would love that. President Obama passed the Health care law. American people, including Blacks have access to preventive health care; cannot be denied covering pre-existing conditions; prolonged stays in hospitals; covering kids in college; if you lose your job and you can keep your doctor. President Obama fought back Ryan-Care – intended to allow doctors let seniors die if they exhaust $5,000 voucher. King would have been old now – would give President Obama A+. President Obama reduced tax for low and middle income people. I have met people saying their payroll checks are bigger than before Obama became President. Dr. King would give President Obama A+. President Obama ended war in Iraq and is phasing that in Afghanistan. Some troops are coming home. President Obama restructured Wall Street. No more cheaters and corruption there. President Obama reformed the banking system. Banks cannot hit you with fees you do not authorize. Dr. King would give President Obama As+. President Obama established business funds to help businesses retool their businesses and therefore hire more people thus rejuvenating the economy. Jobless now is at 8.1%. Private sector is now creating jobs again. President Obama urged homeowners to refinance their mortgages. Banks have been whining but he is on top of cheaters. President Obama restructured student loans. Loans can now be processed at colleges instead of giving bank CEOs undeserved bonuses. Now you can send your bright child to college and get grants and loans easily. We will have more local doctors, professors, engineers, nurses, lawyers, etc. The world now loves Americans. You can now go overseas: India, Malaysia, China, Egypt, and Libya and to African countries and be received as friend. In fact do you know why Egypt, Libya, Syria, Morocco, Yemen and other African countries want democracy? It is because American people elected an African-American President. People of the world have seen American people, regardless of race and creed are now politically and culturally mature enough to elect anybody they like regardless of race. They elected the first African-American as President. That’s exactly what Dr. King would love best to see. President Obama got Bin Ladin, the Yemen guy and their followers. Now America and the world are safer without those two. Dr. King would pat President Obama on his back – “excellent job Mr. President.” Dr. King would be disappointed what TEA Party and Republicans are doing to people. –planting hatred among races and religions. That is exactly what King preached against. President Obama is easily accessible with Blacks, Whites and other racial minority leaders. Dr. King would love to see that in President Obama. Dr. King would be disappointed to see Republicans encouraging CEOs to ship jobs abroad leaving people on welfare or jobless. Dr. King would be disappointed with GOP WH candidates. Romney has refused to disclose his tax returns for corruption cover-up; as Mormon Romney believes women belong to kitchen and are breeding machines; believes Blacks and racial minorities are cursed humans from Cain. Romney is one CEO who shipped jobs abroad leaving people here on welfare. Rich Santorum is a racist – says Blacks are more on welfare than Whites—a lie. Gingrich is adulterer, racist and chaser of office women – called Blacks as welfare suckers; Ron Paul candidacy is sponsored by KKK groups – therefore racist. Perry is a drunk and racist- putting N word on his door. Bachmann was heard saying Blacks were better off as slaves. Herman Cain is women groper, harasser and hates Blacks. As a whole Dr. King would see GOP violating his teachings. But Dr. King would vote for President Obama in November. Dr. King would love us all vote for President Obama on November 6.
I hate it when people grow this kind of arrogance to believe they have mystical magical crystal ball to speak for the dead. How dare you say what Dr. King would or wouldn’t do. I agree with you on the points you made about the other candidates. But that doesn’t take away from the facts that Obama promised to End these Wars. Do we still have 250,000 armed government contractors in Iraq? Are we still in Afghanistan after Bin Ladens death? Don’t both of those Wars combined cost the American tax payer (320 million people) 12 Billion Dollars per month? Is the fool Obama bombing countries that have not attacked America creating more terrorist that hate America? Did he or did he not extend the Bush era tas cuts? Did he or did he not sign a Law giving the Government the ability to declare anyone a Enemy of the State, without evidence a trial or Due Process? How could any sane person justify voting for a Man as President who doesn’t even respect the most important right we have; the right to stand trial and have the government prove a case against you? That’s the whole reason why we put our American foot’s up Englands a*s in the first place. Then you go on about some so-called Arab Spring? How about calling it what it is – Imperilism disguised as Democracy. We do not live in a Democracy. A Democracy is a horrible form of government for idiots. Where the majority votes and everyone has to live under what they decide. If we lived under a Democracy, slavery and Jim Crow would still be legal. We live in a Constitutional Republic where we have Laws to protect individual Rights. Why do people like you insist on making it seem like forcing other people to live under a form of government you don’t live under is a positive thing? Out of all of those countries Obomber has supposedly helped could you name the one that has had free open elections since they got raped by the US, France and Britain? Also as much as we appreciate your belief in some invisible sky daddy who never seems to show up to solve real problems. Could you at least attempt to give real solutions that don’t involve some Spooky bronze age comic book characters that never showed up to stop 300 years of slavery so ain’t noboby coming to fix this mess either.
He did not have our backs. No jobs!!! So why would we have his?
@ Judy
since we did not select him or finance him, he is not working for us
in fact, he is not making any decisions at all, he was chosen by the people in power as a fall guy so black and white people will blame him for the economy.
That’s why I don’t blame him for what is happening BUT I also do not support him because he is working for the ones in power.
I keep asking people on this post to tell me when they have EVER seen the most powerful white people in the nation take orders from a black man tell them what to do and nobody yet has answered that question.
because we all know the real answer
Great sound. I do not wear my emotions on my sleeve. A broad understanding and mental mind set is acquired through living, paying attention, reading and higher education. There is a reason and a method to all game.
It is refreshing to see that there are still some African-Americans who can get pass the slave mentality and petty jealousies and THINK for themselves!! I raise my glass to you!! We will overcome the Alan Keyes, Herman Cains, Alan Wests, Clarence Thomases, etc.of the world who have succumbed to the Republican rhetoric!! Isn’t it interesting that most of these guys have their roots in Georgia where the KKK is trying to adopt a highway!! What is in the water in Georgia!!
So it’s okay for people to market a certain group using music they like, but when you target another group you find it offensive? Give me a break. It’s marketing and it’s what people do to appeal to a certain demographic. So would you have preferred that he made an ad like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL3WCXJOpv4
Maybe this is the genre ad Herman Cain (or Herb Cain as Gov. Sorry Palin calls him) would have used to get his base support group going if his own party hadn’t stabbed him in the back.
Dear Doctor Watkins:
I make it a habit to read Your Black World’s website almost every day. (Sometimes twice a day) I thought it would be a unique opportunity to keep abreast of what’s happening in our community and get some different perspectives on complicated issues. Given your background in finance, I was hoping to receive a trust worthy analysis of the financial implication of what some of President Obama’s policies have done for the country as a whole and for Black people in particular.
However, what I’ve been receiving is long conversation on subjects that any gossip monger could put forth. For example, whether Mary J. Bilge’s chicken commercial was worthy; is not a relevant topic, in this writer’s opinion, given what we face in the upcoming election.
We are in one of the worst economic downturns in this country’s history; we have unprecedented numbers of young Black males incarcerated; the Black female prison population is rising at an alarming rate; (whose left with the children) our school budgets are being cut to support large tax breaks for the 1%; America’s public school system is in jeopardy; black unemployment is at an unconscionable level; home ownership, for Blacks, is at its lowest level in years and we are blogging about whether the Obama’s ad was offense; not what will happen if Romney wins the Presidential election. Or even more important, how to distinguish the difference between the President’s political and financial policies versus the Republican’s political and financial policies
I guess it’s my responsibility to be able to determine whether a website is serious, or just out to get hits. I believe many of our self appointed spoke persons have their own agenda. That agenda seems to be more about attacking each other than raising the understanding of the system in a logical, not emotional way.
My purpose here is not to be disrespectful. However, I must admit that I am baffled by the methods you, Yvette, Cornel, Tavis and other use to inform us of the short comings of President Barrack Obama. It feels like you think you’re the only ones who can see his flaws. THIS COUNTRY IS FLAWED, WE ARE PRODUCTS OF THIS COUNTRY, THUS WE ARE ALL FLAWED…PERHAPS SOME NOT AS MUCH AS OTHERS.
With all due respect… we must do better…Philip-Paul Grimes, Esquire
P.S. I will not engage in a name calling contest. Nor, will I look for a wrong spelled word, or grammatical error to write off anyone that responds to the missive. Nor, will I allowed anyone to reframe the use here. I make no claim to be James Baldwin, so if I’ve made a mistake in my expression please forgive me, but let’s stay on point here. I want us to “do the right thing.” Let’s make use of all these degrees that we have earned with meaningful dialogue…
Sad that it takes an educated youth, as my aunt would say, to tell a bunch of whining hypocrites, to stop crying and get up and do something about the state if the so-called black community. Dr. Brown was so right. I have inherited a world of flat out foolery. Geesh!
For the record
yes, President Obama is a very intelligent black man
yes, President Obama is a great speaker
yes, President Obama is due the same respect as any white male or female holding that office
that being said,
that does not mean this game is not the same crooked game
the mob is still the mob
the government is still the government
a politician is still a politician
we should NEVER blindly follow any man or woman
and those who believe in God or a Creator knows that no man should be elevated to the status of a God
and that everyone should be looked at carefully because even the Bible writes about the deceivers in the last days
those who follow the Bible should re-read Revelations
(and no, I’m not preaching any religion dogma)
just saying there is NOTHING new under the sun
Boyce Watkins: You are just angry because Obama has the spotlight and you don’t. Criticism and critiquing are two different things. From reading your articles from time to time I cannot help but to think that you have deluded yourself into believing that you have a PHD ( piled high and deeper and I have on boots) that this somehow entitles you to be the self annointed and self appointed spokesman for Black America.
I don’t recall any election being held I the Black community where in which you were elected leader of the people. Let some of the air out of your obviously big head and instead of criticizing the Potus constantly use your considerable and impressive ( Iol) knowledge in finance and economics to get more Black PHDs at Syracuse university.
Finally. If you can criticize expect the some in return. There are two types of people in the world my foolishly self absorbed brother. Those that do great things and people who criticize those that do great things. You are obviously the latter. Stop drinking HATER-ADE. B. A. N. ( b—h a– n—a)
the president has my vote who are you going to vote for willard hahaha. you put willard in there you’re really going to be mad. if you stay home your vote will go to willard. I LOVE PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS FAMILY.
If this is indeed an ad for the 2012 campaign for the President, then they need to go back to the drawing board because this one want work. Why don’t they use something postive like the video that the Orlando Florida Teenagers called Limitless Five put out a few months ago. “Let Do It Again” http://www.letsdoitAgainObama.org I think it will serve the President better for not just African American, but for all. I vote for Limitless check it out on youtube.
GLB
WHY? Because it is a type genre that appeals to Blacks? I don’t recall anyone having a problem with ads/songs like this in the previous election. Give me one guess of what demographic you think McCain was trying to appeal to. And clearly, it worked in Texas, OK, Kansas, Arizona and other states where people love this music. It’s ridiculous that people criticize President Obama for every little thing. They even had something negative to say when he killed a fly in an interview. GIVE THIS MAN A BREAK! But just a reminder of a what people didn’t criticize when someone targeted another demographic. Please watch and ask yourself why this wasn’t an issue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmKgITJejfg&feature=endscreen&NR=1
How do anyone know if this is an official ad from the Obama campaign. Did anyone check? with all this PAC money around this ad could be from anybody.Come on people get your Heads out your rear end. Why would any person of color vote for anyone but Obama? So you want to be thought of as an independent thinker, you have no idea what this election is really about. There is a fear in the hearts of the majority of white American that they have lost control, and will do and say anything to get there country back.A word to the wise if there are any left out there.
2012 and we are still having pains about 1st Black President. This nation has been to the moon several times (technology) but our morality and attitudes towards race is lacking. This President is respected more in other countries than here in the good ole usa. I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled the world and was treated with more respect than here in america. Sad…I’m embarrassed every time I watch the news. There were times when people tried to hide their racism but now its all out in the open…church, congress, etc…
I beg to differ with Dr Boyce on this issue. I may be in error, but I believe all the political ads put out by the presidents’ party are meant for all Americans not just Caucasian American. So there is no need for a special ad for the ‘negro’ people. I do believe that this ad is aimed primarily for the young.
Dam,if you do and dam if you don’t.
About the ad.., I like it. What it shows me is that the pundits that were put out prior to now, have been picked up by the Obama Campaign Staff; and, turned it into the President’s own authorized ad. The message he want out there is what is being put out by him. The style of the message I like as well because we as Black People love to clap, snap and groove to any music beat we hear. The ad is targeting a market–the Black market. We are so into critiquing everybody and everything that I believe we have gotten off point about why the message was created. As a Black People, we are notorious for “not voting”. The reason so many came out and supported Obama was due to all of the advertising; and, we all knew that it was not only time for change; but, for one of our own to be the one up there in D.C. directing change. One thing we must understand is no matter how much change we as individual leaders want, and try promising; we have only so much individual power. Once inside the political chambers, you have to have the right people agreeing to vote on your initiatives. President obama has not been receiving that. So, I don’t fault him for anything that was not achieved during his reign. It is very clear that the GOP–Republican Party has done everything under the sun to try discrediting him; and, we cannot fall for it. We need to understand the full political process; and, not keep living based upon what other people talk about; but, learn it for ourselves, so we can have an intelligent say in every matter that affects us; as individuals, and as a people. The ad is targeting Black people; and, believe me–additional ads will go out that will target the other markets that are out there needing to be reached by President Obama; and, they will include White Women, poor and working class; Latinas; and, definitely the Gay community. It’s time we sit up straight, open our own eyes and ears; and, learn by what is being said and done, by the one(s) who count; and, not so much by ‘how it is being said’ and done. President Obama is one man. We are an entire race of people, who need to ‘keep’ his back. Who else is willing to be on the front lines on our behalf???
What better method of trashing the President than by having educated Black people of notoriety denigrate the man. How in the world can one man, with a body of supposed assistants (Congress), who make it their number one priority to make Mr. Obama a “one term president” and therefore by extension tell the nation that black people are once again at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to any form of uplifting assistance be expected to allow him the opportunity to an any way ease the burdens of the black community ? Not to mention the fact the he has inherited the “mess” that white folks has caused by virtue of their infinite wisdom. Who runs this world ? Who makes the laws ? Who starts wars in the name of democracy ? Who started segregation ? Who started welfare ? How many black people or presidents mucked up the economy ? How many black people have any control of the economy ? Of the government ? Of the court system ? To even take the time to talk about Mr. Obama negatively in the face of all of the ;facts that point to other people messing up the global situation is sheer lunacy. You drop a person into a hornet’s nest and they’ll probably get stung. Or, if you drop a person into a sewage container, they’ll probably come out smelling just like *&**. For all of the obstacles he faces, I think he is doing at least all right, especially compared to some of his predecessors.
it about the whole black race not one person’ it not about obama, oprah, michael jordan, you preacher…it about every one walking down the same road in peace…and yes we as blacks got drug addicts that we got to deal will the right way because we know this is the crime creator…the same with the melanoma aids virus’ it not a crime creator but its a problem and the way is want to stop it will make some people nad but it got to be done’ a tag brand in a certain place…build businesses and stop being greed like you are going to do it by your self no you are not. its doing to take all of us making small long term investments to build a communication system and we use the system….but it so much to do…like build a load system to put solar system on people house with good sun….two are three power box for storage and they take that money to pay for the solar systems
There is nothing wrong with this ad! The headline is misleading…..It did not cause me to raise my eyebrows.
I thought the ad was OK myself, and I am a lover of music. People we must stop being so uptight about petty stuff that don’t matter. What truly matters is that we need to unite as one, and not become divided.
I’m an intelligent and well educated Black Woman, not bragging it is a fact, and I find myself in the company of highly intelligent Black People responding to this ad. The time has come again that we must be strong and stand strong together as one nation under God. God has not left us nor has he forsaken us, God is true to his word, he said he would never leave us or forsake us. The LORD said vengeance is his, and as our enemies rise up against us, the LORD defeated them before our face, they came in one way and left several different ways. The Lord is our helper, we will not fear, what can man do to us.
People we must reelect Obama for President, we don’t agree with everything he has done or not done, but it is of the utmost importance that he serve another term. Obama’s plate was running over, when he came into office, and he has had to overcome many obstacles, such as name calling, wars, and dealing with ignorant people who tried to hold him back, just to name a few, etc.
This second term in office, will give us a chance to see what President Obama will accomplish. Look it can’t be as bad as having a Republican, to tell the truth.
My prayer is that we stand together as a people united as one, and get the task done that is before us, which is to reelect President Obama. It is not about agreeing or disagreeing, it is about getting the task done that is at hand people.
You may not agree with me, and that is ok, you have a right to your own opinion. I will love you any way.
Love Tracy
Those of you believing that this ad only caters to African Americans are the discriminating ones. I’m black and that music doesn’t appeal to me; I’m more into alternative. My Chinese friend is more likely to tune in to an ad like that than I. Also, someone help me out…where was the slang in the ad?
THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY COOL…very relatable to most of us if we’re not being to booshie that is; or would you rather have the other side come at you with….”say whaaaaat”?? Then would u vote for them?????????
As is the case of ALL products that are marketed in these United States(President Obama is a “political” product), EVERY marketing venue MUST be used to get the “word out”… Therefore, get your b**t’s registered and vote on November 6th, y,all! Also, tell your neighbor’s, friends, co-workers, church folks to — get OUT and VOTE.
As an African American that grew up watching the ETHNIC commercials developed by Pepsi, McDonald’s, KFC, Coke, Procter & Gamble, etc. …all the major product companies have used this method (especially the liquor and sports product companies), I say “Good for Obama” and his marketing group.
I APPLAUD The Obama/Biden Political Group for using the old-fashioned…BAMN Method (By Any Means Necessary).
Look, listen and learn!
Dont understand why some of you are offended by this ad. For those of you who didn’t think he talked to black people, well…he’s talking now.
Brothers and Sisters…don’t be so sensitive. Get out and vote!!
I love the ad and we need to get Obama’s back! Do I agree with everything NO. But anyone posting here who is prepared to cast a vote for Mitt Romney or any Republican is a d**n FOOL! How many ways can they show you that if you are not rich they don’t give a d**n about you! How many ways do they have to show you this? Romney’s latest statement about not needing firefighters, police officers and teachers should tell you all what you need to know. So yes I will be getting Obama’s back!
President Obama needs to get a different PR firm not only for Black folks, but in general! The messaging is whacked and yes it is insulting! I for one am not so certain that President Obama will do any more than he has for our folks and our community than he has already! Which amounts to nothing direct, remember it will trickle down to us what he does for others! I believe the President should be held accountable for what he has done, especially given the fact that he has taken care of other constituent groups. I would have more confidence had I saw evidence during the first term!
The President should also be held accountable for the “white framers” in his administration the key word here is “his”, so no matter who is doing the framing it is still “his”! President Obama has over seen the killing of more Muslim’s and attacks on black and brown people around the world. There is no way to sugar coat the truth or any way to absolve the President of this truth; we can’t blame it on the framers!
I will still vote for President Obama, I donate monthly on a recurring basis, because he is the lesser of the 2 evils, he is more intelligent than the alternative by leaps and bounds! I’m voting for him because even though I have not been pleased with his overall agenda (or lack thereof) for our people, he has done many things that have benefitted all people in this country, including us! This does not negate the fact that African-Americans need a “Huge New Deal”! For the writer that stated he has lost all respect for the African-American community for blindly supporting the President because he is Black; it is not blind support; it is in black folks self-interest! Even if it wasn’t, no one complains when white folks vote for white folks just because their white, even when it is not in their own self-interest!
Mitt Romney, the Tea Party, Republicans and other racist are blatant with their racism; they detest African-American and other people of color. We mean nothing to them we’re dispensable, useless. What poor and working class whites need to quickly accept they mean nothing to this group of rich white folks in power, except as pawns to keep groups fighting each other instead of fighting them the real enemy!
I am Vickie McPhee and I approve this message to Barack Obama
Barack really you swinging like that? You think who is stupid? You want people to believe you are hope and change?
Brethren your reality is you are the monkey swinging on masters porch for what? If you do not pull this ad immediately and apologize to the Afrikan Americans you targeted in your message, you will learn that having a black president of the USA is only half the battle because the battle is really having control of the first black president of the USA.
Who is your controller and is he qualified to get you elected after you have swung from the white house porch. Shame on you shame on you shame on you!!!!
Sad that this blog or whoever stated this ad. raises eyebrows. It’s sending a message that black people should hear& assess there place
in this country & the world.Start looking @ revelant things.Like discrimination,mass incarciration,oppression,health care & thousands
of other things that effect black life.Black people have not arrived.
Who do you want president Obama or Mitt Roomney ? For those who have a mind & can think.Stop dreaming & make a choice.Vote & take control
of your own destity.
While I still like Obama I am totally disappointed “with the company he keeps,” so to speak. Which means all of those Jews surrounding him, who are really bossing and contolling him in everything that he says and does. So even this ad is not really his doing, but that bunch of anti-Jesus Jewish crooks and slicksters. And I am still calling for him to rid himself of some of that bunch, and add more strong-voiced black advisors to his group, who will be totally active in the decision-making. But I don’t really think it is going to happen, with all of those leechs around him, who have long been benefiting off of blacks in every way. It’s a sickening situation, because Obama is nothing more than a puppet on the string of David Axelrod, David Plouffe, Peter Rouse, Jacob Lew, and a bunch of other Jews, who I refuse to listen to and follow. And will be voicing my dislikes outside the Democratic convention. — Rev. George Brooks
This dude defnintely has the President’s back:

I see their are more Republian here making comments than you can expect. Those who say harmful things about the President should read their history book what the other president have done in wars. We are still trying to find the weapon of mass distruction. Who was president during the Vietnam era, Koren, World war 1 and 2. This President have done more for all the people that he was elected to serve and if you cann’t say anything good because their are those who are trying to make a black President look bad. They aren’t doing things for the good of the country One man said he would leave the country if the Health care was pass. Where is he? Another still question the birth record. Let be real if Clenton and other couldn’t find flaws then Trump is useing this because of hate for a Black man who happen to be the President.
Sad thing is that Prez Obama is not thinking about any of you. You shouldn’t waste your precious energy fighting over him and attacking those who can see right though him. He’s the leader of the free world, very wealthy and his life will be forever charmed. What do you have? Black wealth is minuscule and black unemployment is still rising. Face it we’ve been duped. Move on. Show some self-respect and intelligence.
Sadly, judging from what I have read on this thread, we are wasting our time. Many Obama supporters are almost cult-like in their blind allegiance. I suspect if he told them to join the military they would swarm like lemmings to the sea.
They ignore all the FACTS that prove that black people are not even on Obama’s radar — until it’s re-election time.
I guarantee you over the next several months, President Obama — who has largely ignored black people since his election — will suddenly remember we exist by giving us a series of Baptist-minister-style ‘self-help’ sermons about what blacks SHOULD do for themselves
while his message to every non-black groups will be about what he WILL DO FOR THEM
And I have no doubt that most black people won’t even notice. Even though we got NOTHING out of the last three years of his presidency, we will stare adoringly into the far distance at a second-term black president who never looks our way.
Did you guys know FoxNews is run by uncivilized people. In fact I watch FoxNews to see how foolishly discuss political issues. The anchors and analysts are both FoxNews employees. They plan, rehearse and prepare to lie. I have no ideas how they tell their wives, husbands and above all their children after work. “I went to work to lie.” FoxNews campaigns for politicians who mirror their values: thieves, racists, haters of Black people, white women bashers/gropers, and adulterers, corrupt and con-people. Look at people hired at FoxNews: Sanford, Herman Cain, Allen West, d**k, Karl, Megan, Rush, Varney, Sean, Bozell, Michael Forman, Achiels etc. Each has one or two of the above sins. I don’t know about Bill O’rielly. FoxNews is frustrated GOP candidates eliminated themselves with their horrible baggage. FoxNews people know they are bankrupt if President Obama is re-elected November 6. Nobody will watch FoxNews once President Obama is re-elected. FoxNews focus now is to plant hatred into White people minds to hate President Obama. FoxNews is failing. People of all races: Whites, Asians, Blacks, Native Indians, Jews love President Obama. With Romney as their candidate, FoxNews and GOP are done – kaput on November 6. Let’s vote for President Obama on November 6 to put FoxNews to sleep.
@Paul H and all the other Obama-Haters on here…
Get over yourself and vote for Mitt Romney—frankly tired of hearing from you. You are doing the same thing you accuse Obama voters of doing. How can I say that? IN NOT ONE POST HAVE YOU MENTIONED ANYTHING THAT ROMNEY HAS SAID THAT HES GONNA DO TO MAKE THINGS BETTER! Its funny to me how we (if you are indeed “one of us”)have so much to say about whats going wrong– but have yet to produce another way. Instead of discouraging me from voting for Obama– encourage me to vote for ole Mittens. Lets see, is he gonna help me now….nope, doesn’t really have a plan to create jobs….oh yeah, in order to create jobs we must slash jobs….that makes a lot of sense. Well, strike that one. Lets see, is he gonna help me with my skyrocketing cost of health insurance? Well, by getting rid of any kind of government backed health care–this will continue to allow insurance companies to charge me $30.00 for two aspirin, give me sub-standard service all the while charging me for thousands of babies born to people with no healthcare– oh yeah, and when I get some sort of flesh eating bacteria in the hospital, they can deny treatment based on the fact that I caught it at the hospital and advise me to get up off my death bed and sue the hospital..THEY should pay for it. And when I get sick from being old, I wont qualify for Medicare because Im to old, my insurance can drop me because im too old and a health risk, and I cant get other insurance because by then it will be 1200.00 a month for someone my age — and they wont insure me anyway because being old is a pre-existing condition! Maybe he’ll help my kids— no well, since public schools dont exist anymore they all going to charter schools that are guess what — LARGELY UNREGULATED due to the fact that the DOE is two people and a typewriter under the Romney Administration. And at these unregulated schools that have a 60 to 1 ratio– the teacher can feel free to tell my child to “sit her nappy headed self down” with no fear of getting in trouble–because the principal agrees that my child is nappy headed and needs to sit down. And if my child graduates from said school, she will have to get hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt to go to school — because the prices of colleges are not regulated either. But thats okay…she can always fall back on Welfare right? WRONG — Romney used that money to give TAX CUTS to the billionaires that funded his campaign while 1/3 of my check goes to pay for these people to live their lavish life and look down their noses at me….INCLUDING HIM. And when I get old, all the entitlements that Ive worked so hard for, I am somehow not entitled to anymore. So, to you….Paul H, I ask — did I get anything wrong? Youre darn right Im voting for Mr. Obama– not because hes black… not because hes for gay marriage…not because hes likeable….not because hes Christian… I could give a chunky-b**t -rats-behind about any of that. but because he has my interest at heart. Millionaires dont wanna pay more than they have to pay– and Willard’s on of them. Im not. Thats fundamentally not fair. Millionaires wont create jobs if their taxes are higher — h**l, THEY ARENT DOING IT NOW! Romney is protecting his own interests as a ca-zillionaire– and selling me up the river. TELL ME IM WRONG MR. PAUL H. TELL ME IM WRONG OR SHUT UP. Dont tell me what Obama did wrong– tell me what Romneys gonna do. I don’t really care about anything else. As the song says….tell me something good Mr. Paul H!
Just because I don’t support his administration doesn’t mean I “hate’ him.
And if you’re ‘tired’ of hearing from me, remember, this is a PUBLIC BLOG where people share diverse opinions. This is not a blog about Romney.
Romney is a joke as far as I’m concerned. Also, I never once said YOU shouldn’t vote for Obama, that’s your decision and I respect your right to make that decision. Just respect mine to not support ANY candidate that ignores my community. Sorry, it’s the TRUTH
Listen, I won’t get into a long thing with you. I’m not here to insult or discourage anyone from doing what they think is right.
I’m here to warn (that’s right warn) black people not to allow ourselves to be taken for granted. To not be blinded by the glamour and hype. To not fall in love with a politician who does not talk to us AFTER he gets our vote.
I want us to respect ourselves enough to demand that our vote be taken seriously, and to demand that President Obama AND any other white or black politician must TELL US what you are going to do FOR US – like you tell any other group – before you give away your vote.
Have a good night.
It truly amazes me that we, African-Americans, complained regularly that Black people were not afforded the opportunity to be President. Then we were fortunate to elect a Black President and too many of us are now complaining that he is not performing miracles. At some point in time, we must break the chains and shackles of slavery of our African-American minds and be free to recognize the hypocrisy of our position. I am thoroughly convinced that our President gets up every morning thinking about ways and means to turn this sluggish economy around and get Americans back to work. However, we as an American people must exude more understanding of the fact that while the President is working extremely hard to bring unemployment down and revitalize the economy, there are real, tangible, visible, evil forces in the country and the Congress that are working just as diligently to sabotage all the great work that is attempting to do. I clearly knew that if I lived long enough to actually see an African-American President, I expected the many racist elements in our towns, cities, states and the country to be out in full force to seriously undermine everything he did. However, even stretching my imagination to its fullest point could not make me think that these racists and uncle toms would go to the extent that they have to undermine and sabotage the President’s work to the detriment of the country’s health, employment, and National Security! You still think this Democracy and capitalistic system is so great? You still think that in 2012 that you would be living in a country where white people would still be so evil after all of the centuries of spreading evil and misery all over the world? Don’t ever allow yourself to forget about the President we were stuck with for eight years before we got a real President in 2008! We have a great President in Barack Obama! All we need now is some other great American people who are wise and insightful enough to really appreciate the great President that we are so fortunate to have! Let’s re-elect President Barack Obama to a second term on November 06, 2012!
To Nothing But The Truth:
I applaud you for putting President Obama’s presidency into perspective. I wish all serious African-Americans could read your comment. For some reason, We, as a people, seem to have lost our way.
Congratulations on your cogent comment!!
Dannyboy
Has anyone here ever gone to whitehouse.gov and read the executive orders or is most of this diaglogue taken from what the media dictates….I prefer to read the signed executive orders.
Great question. My guess is very few. I haven’t checked that out in a while but I think the real story is what is SIGNED into law by the Obama administration and any other administration.
I don’t care what you say you believe, I care about what you put your John Hancock on
If people checked out the talk VS the actions, there would see they’re as different as night and day
Over the next several months, President Obama — who has largely ignored black people since his election — will suddenly remember we exist by giving us a series of Baptist-minister-style ‘self-help’ sermons about what blacks SHOULD do for themselves
while his message to every non-black groups will be about what he WILL DO FOR THEM
And I have no doubt that most black people won’t even notice. Even though we got NOTHING out of the last three years of his presidency, we will stare adoringly into the far distance at a second-term black president who never looks our way.
I am a young Black Man, born in the hood, raised by the hood and now I do my best to support the hood. I thank God for Martin, Malcolm, Jessie, and Rev. Al because without them there would be no President Obama. I wonder why we act as if we forget what type of obstacles our President faces daily when it comes to race here in these good ole Not So United States. To me he has given us opportunity to gain but we cry black as if we’re limited if it doesn’t say for blacks. I say that because it seems to me as if we attack him just as much if not more than his opposition does. What if that campaign ad wasn’t aimed at black folks but at this nation as a whole. I saw the Lil kids show this morning that our 1st Lady was on and the phrase We Got Your Back seemed to be the theme on that show this morning. Maybe it’s time for us to stop trying to reason so many things out and start supporting with all our energies. The Black Man can not survive without the Black Man. 1 Luv
The GOP have their Stooges: Michael Steel, Alan Keyes, Herman Cain, Step-N-Fetch-it, and Chicken George.
Anyway, regardless of what you think of President Obama if Mitt “The Liar” Romney wins in November it will embolden the racist, bigoted, violent, and White Supremist element in this country.
Not entirely true. Since Obama’s election, hate crimes and hate groups have MUSHROOMED. White people all over the country are arming up to the extent of many gun stores running out of ammo.
I warned people that the election of Obama would INCREASE not decrease racism, because he would be the scapegoat for the economic woes of white folks that the Bush and Clinton administrations caused.
And now if you’re paying attention, racism is increasing, so I would have no fear of Romney. If anything, if a WM takes the White House, at least white people will take the blame for what white people are doing…instead of a black man
To Paul H:
I see by your comment that you are of the Cornel West way of thinking that just because President Obama is Black, he should publicly jump up and down to help black folks!! Never have I heard President Obama give “sermons” to Black folks on how they should help themselves. Not that he shouldn’t because people like you should stop whining and do for ourselves. Don’t get caught up in the republican rhetoric of Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich. Wake up and smell the coffee, my brother!!
sigh…
why can’t I just have my own opinion? Why do I have to think like Cornel West?
Do you belong to Obama cultist way of thinking? All this emotion should be saved for the people who are really hurting you, not someone who has a RIGHT to disagree with you in cyberspace…
If you recall that the only time Obama has spoken to black people has been at the church, standing at the pulpit. Let me also remind you of some of the headlines:
—-
“Obama to Blacks: Take Responsibility!” (Chicago Sun-Times)
—-
“FORT WORTH, Texas — On the campaign trail, Democratic front-runner Sen. Barack Obama talks about how he would use the bully pulpit if president, and he offered a demonstration Thursday when he drew wild cheers as he told a mostly African-American crowd that parents need to shape up, turn off the TV, help their kids with their homework and stop letting them grow fat eating Popeyes chicken for breakfast.” (February 29, 2008)
—–
6/16/2008 2:01:54 PM ET 2008-06-16T18:01:54
CHICAGO — Barack Obama celebrated Father’s Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are “missing from too many lives and too many homes,” to become active in raising their children.
“They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it,” the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.
——
all of the above took place in a BLACK CHURCH with Obama standing at the pulpit, so that’s as close to a SERMON as you can get.
My problem is not that he shouldn’t talk about those issues, my problem is that he is ALSO supposed to talk about what he — as a politician who wants our vote again — is going to do FOR US.
Every other demographic demands that except for black people. Why the H would you vote for someone unless you thought they were going to address your issues?? That doesn’t make sense.
And if the ONLY reason you voted for Obama was to have another ‘first black’ to celebrate, then frankly, black people are getting what we asked for and maybe what we deserve
NOTHING
To Paul H:
I forgot to say that instead of whining because President Obama has not made us all millionaires as Republicans want to do for themselves, you should be raising h**l about the way the Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee treated Attorney General Eric Holder at the hearing on Tuesday!! It was a blantant show of racism and disrespect simply because Attorney General Holder DIDN’t act like a plantation n***** and cow tow to them!! Of course, if you are a Republican I can understand because it is how they have disrespected Presaident Obama since he took office!!
THAT IS WHY THEY CALL IT “THE WHITE HOUSE” AND THEY WANT IT BACK!!
See, that’s illogical. If you’ve read any of my posts YOU know I’ve never ‘whined’ about Obama not making me a millionaire.
The game is not about acting like a plantation N, it’s about using Atty Gen Holder and President Obama as scapegoats. Of course, I see they are victims of racism, but I also see that they are being used to fool the public, especially black people, into thinking this system has changed.
This is why I don’t support any politician at the highest levels. Because I KNOW they are simply the puppets of the powerful white people behind the scenes.
Neither Holder nor Obama have any real power, they doing what they are told to do and will be mistreated and scapegoated to make it appear that black people should not be trusted with positions of power.
That doesn’t mean they are good men, that means they are involved in a crooked game that sooner or later will throw them under the bus.
I am not obligated to participate in any fraudulent politics, just because a few players are black. However, all of you who think it’s important, that’s your choice.
This is not the kind of approach that I would associate with or expect of either the president or, certainly not, the first lady. I think most black folks who voted for him and are even contemplating doing so again would prefer an approach that is more compatable with their, our, level of intellect (our I.Q.) and I believe he knows it. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the president, primarily because of his constant display of superior intelligence and also because I believe he is able to relate to most issues in the same basic way that I do. Until the fat lady sings, on this issue, I intend to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m not saying this didn’t happen, I’m saying that, I don’t think, he had anything to do with it’s production or distribution. I’ll just have to wait and see.
he’s using is black part of him! If I hear on more time “our first black persident” – i’m going 2 throw up! he’s the first biracial presedent! and u black americans call him the u should be asham. he’s not getting my voice ’cause when he went in office he canceled my increase from the military now brought it just i think this year! u seave ur country then ur treated this way! and yes “I’m BLACK”! it’s about my money! still black and white stugg in this country! AMERICA IS SOON 2 BE HISTORY – GET UR HOUSE IN ORDER
I think….I think..Im offended…Should I be???
Wait, wait, wait…Im confused..
Why does “gottavote.org” encapsulate improper verbage??
I’m college educated…a physician to be exact…Im trying to understand who is he talking to?? Are we incapable of remembering and spelling a grammer correct website address???
Moving on… The music!!!
I would have preferred some Frank Sinatra or Ludwig Van Beethoven..mmm..Symphony number 9 maybe.
That was the weakest track I ever heard in my life… Is he serious??? Is this ad a joke…tell me this is not real… Please somebody…ANYBODY
Greetings Beautiful Black People,
Really enjoyed reading posts.
Especially the exchange with @nedrea and Paul H
A shame @nedrea you appeared not to take on or question effectively what Paul H’s views on Obama’s (s)election, the system and what the President has or hasn’t done.
I say a shame because you appear to be well educated but maybe not experienced enough due to your years ( no offense intended, as it is also a blessing) to take on board Paul H’s and indeed many people I know here in the UK and USA feel – that It is highly unlikely that a non caucasian male be given the power of presidency. I sense an ulterior motive. I along with family, friends and colleauges was governed mainly by emotion when Obama won the election and failed to focus on the babylonious system. IM FOCUSING NOW!
It will take the views, opinions, feelings and experiences of all our community to move forward. Especially people like @nedrea and Paul H who are obviously passionate about our people.
This forum used correctly and RESPECTFULLY can be very powerful.
Keep the respect, even if you do not agree with one another.
I did not find Paul H’s posts disrespectful but witnessed a lot of hostility towards him.
Why?
One love and blessings.
@ Rob
I agree, and understand how black people who have been so deprived for so long took Obama’s election to heart. But now that the celebration is over, it’s time to get SERIOUS and take a good look at what is really happening.
Of course, we know white people do not take orders from black people, especially wealthy and powerful whites. We know the world does not work that way. We know that power is not given up by those who have it. Like Malcolm X once said, ‘If you want power, you have to take it.”
going into a voting booth controlled by the SAME people in power, is not ‘taking’ power, that’s just a con game.
And the interesting part is a lot of the posters here have watched conspiracy shows and videos and have talked about how deceptive the world of politics is — but strangely, with the election of one black man, all that is out the window.
that says a lot about the power of wishful thinking over embracing the truth
I see they removed the questionable ad from youtube and I assume, from the media. I bet they’ll be more careful about using chitlin’ politics to advertise to black people.
Maybe some good came out of all this black on black Paul H bashing
After re-reading some of the pro-Obama-ad posts, I went back and listened to the ad again. All I heard was music and singing “we got your back” and Obama talking.
I’ll be honest, I don’t find this offensive. It’s rather mild, so unless there’s a different ad out there, I believe I jumped the gun.
My apologies
That being said, I still find it questionable that anyone living in the U.S. can blindly support any politician without questioning what they do.
So, I’m moving from criticizing the ad and getting back to what’s really important. Black people getting the help they need regardless of who is president.
Paul H,
Thank you for being a stand-up guy and saying you may have jumped the gun by your initial comments. I respect your honesty!! Now let’s get President Obama elected to a second term so he can do some of the things you ask!!
Well I see my post was deleted. I guess the truth in it’s very raw form is not appreciated nor wanted. I am unsubscribing from this sight which is ran by a house n***a anyway…so I won’t be missing anything. Obama/Biden 2012!!!
I don’t see anything wrong with this AD it is done very professional and the group that is doing the song are fantastic Michael Baisden plays and AD similair to this ad all the time on his show when he is doing clips of the president’s speeches. Why are you insinuating that this AD is for Blacks only? I don’t get that tone in this ad campaign. When the President was running for election in 2008 there were a lot of songs made for his campaign and nothing was said about them then. Get a life and stop trying to stir up stuff for the President. And yes, I do have his back.
I listened to the audio tape and I don’t hear anything wrong with it.
I didn’t hear any slang used by the President nor from the person encouraging us to vote for him. The song “We’ve got his back” is just a slogan or marketing tool, which I happen to like. Just like all of the other jingles that are used to get us to use, buy or try something. If you don’t think that the President has or will not do anything for African Americans, then you sure as h**l better not help put a Republican in office or you’ll be singing the same song, this time next year.
From my perspective we all, black and white would have been worse off had he not taken office. Barack Obama held this county together, which was and still is hanging by a thread. If he could do more, do better then I think he would. He’s doing his best, why wouldn’t he want to.
His job is not some pasttime. It’s probably the most important thing he or any other candidate will EVER do.
We can all sit back and complain, people do that so well. But what are each of you doing to make this a better world. Barack Obama is not some savior, he’s just a man trying to help save this county.
We must keep in mind that POTUS came into office with a crisis that was created by a Republican president. He prevented us from going into a depression without the assistance of the Republicans in Congress. The Republicans in Congress continue to prevent his jobs programs from going forward at the expense of the American public which is plan evil. Yes, the Democrats had the majority for a short period but the lies attached to Obamacare perpetrated by the Republicans brought into Congress politicans of “NO”. POTUS is the most disrepected president in my lifetime. A Senator called him a lier during the “State of the Union”.The Republican leadership did nothing to correct that type of behavior. As a matter of fact, they seem to encourage this outragousness. I can only come to one conclusion, it’s all because he is black not because of his policies. You have to remember early on in his term the Republicans were planning his demise.
I love the message, but I dislike the “cheesy” backgroud music. If African-Americans care about their future and the future of their children they will Vote Obama-Biden in November, I WILL! As a matter of fact I am voting for a DEMOCRAT in all elections. You see what the GOP has done in Congress “NOTHING”, I refuse to vote AGAINST ME in any election. A vote against a Democrat is a vote against ME.
For all those who say, “Obama can’t be just a black president!’ it seems he has no problem being a ‘Hispanic’ president
The latest headline: Obama Stops Automatic Deportation of Illegal Aliens
This is part of the ‘Dream Act’ legislation that Obama pushed when he was Senator, which basically allows illegal immigrants from south of the border to work their way toward citizenship by joining the military (or going to college).
Now, what are the chances that an illegal immigrant who can barely speak English going right to college? And why would any president push for MORE illegal immigrants to stay when the nationwide black unemployment rate is over 25%?
The FACT is a lot of the jobs poor and working class blacks USED TO DO are now being done by illegal immigrants. This is not an attack against those exploited brown workers who are here to feed their families.
Something is seriously wrong with this picture.
f**k OBAMA!!!!
The good thing about being an American,we have the right to get together and discuss our issues and views, opinions, and we have the right to vote.
I have been reading all the comments and it seems that we need to decide what the issues are and how can we solve them.
How can we assist in our political arena.
We can do, exactly, what these media forms, allow us to do,express our individual thoughts.
When it is all said and done, We can caucus, lobby, have our meetings, etc, but what you do in that booth on election day will detrermine who will lead this country.
Are you trying to get the elderly, those in nursing homes, those who can not get to the polls, to do absentee voting.
We each have our opinion and yes many of these opinions are based on truth, some on myths and some just on ignorance.
When I pass thru many black community all I hear is loud music. People working on their cars or sitting in their cars with the music so loud that it shake the homes. If you dont like for anyone to communicate with you that way, then maybe you should stop behaving that way. People treat you the way you treat yourself and others around, because they believe that is the way you communicate with each other.
I personally do not go into certain community because I do not like the environment,or the loud music, or seeing people stoptheir cars in the middle of the street conversing with somoene else and holding up traffic, like there is nobody behind you. All the man is doing is communicating with you the way he know how. At least he is trying to reach you. h**l I wont even bother to try. See I am not a PIMP POLITICIAN, so I dont care.
Wow!! What would you really expect? It’s election time..LOL This president has instituted policy, yes policy for immigrants, (ILLEGAL ones at that), Latinos, Gays & Lesbians, Wall Street, Big Pharm, and the list goes on! I assure you the list does not include anything that specifically addresses the concerns of Black America. So in my opinion the “I’m President of the entire country” excuse for not addressing the Black community doesn’t fly when policy has been instituted specifically for so many other groups…
I agree but I’m afraid I have painted Obama as a villain. He is not. He is being used to take the blame for those corporate entities who exploit cheap foreign labor. They are the ones who make the real policies behind closed doors.
Sorry if I have implied otherwise.
To the delight of many, this will be my last post, but first I’d like to say this to all of you:
1. President Obama is a brilliant and charismatic black man who under the right circumstances could be a great leader.
2. I do not blame President Obama for the mess we’re in. He did not create this mess and he does not have the power to change it. I believe he is being used to make whites and blacks focus on him (a black man) instead of the white people who are really in charge.
3. I apologize if I have offended or demoralized anyone who has put all their faith and hope in the election of a black president. All I ask is to keep an open mind and have the courage to face whatever truths are revealed in the coming days.
Peace to all.
Paul H:
We won’t miss you!! You express a point of view to which you’re entitled to do so. I just ask that you consider one thing; Republicans and others have been plotting against this President BEFORE he was even in office!! Mitch McConnell’s first words were that their goal was to keep the President from a second term. When have such words EVER been said about another President? That is why, in my humble opinion, we,as African-Americans, should support President Obama’s re-election. We may never have this chance again in our lifetime!!
Stay in the ballgame, my friend!!
Come on, you know you’ll miss me.
For the record, I support black people, no doubt. All I ask is that anyone who represents me SHOWS me that it’s a two-way street. Unfortunately, I have seen no evidence of that.
Good chatting with you, Dannyboy!
Paul H,
I’m glad to know you’re still in the ballgame!! I still think you’re missing the point of Obama being our president! What is it that you want out of the man? What have you demanded of other presidents? Remember, the Brother is playing in a high stakes ballgame and he is beating them at their game!! That’s why they hate the man so!!
So, after all he has had to deal with, even from members of his own party, let’s give him another shot just as they did W Bush!! Peace.
DannyBoy,
I warned black people during the first election that we made the mistake of giving our vote away to a black candidate without asking for anything in return and that Obama never once addressed what he was going to do for black people, and this is the response I heard over and over:
“Sssh! Obama can’t talk about black people or he’ll make white people mad! Just wait until he gets into office, and things will change!”
Ok, now that President Obama’s been in office for over three years, what I’m hearing now is:
“Let’s give him another chance and then after almost eight years in office, if he doesn’t start talking to black people, then we’re through!”
Hmmm…I thought to myself, that’s one h**l of a deal. Not to hold a politician accountable for his first term, give him a second term, and then when he can’t run again, that’s when we give him the boot.
somebody sign me up, cause I could use that kind of NON-accountability.
I’ll end with this:
Most black people KNOW from our experience in Corporate America that black people — even those with titles — ALWAYS have to answer to more powerful white people.
WE KNOW THIS IS TRUE yet we continue to pretend that a title is the same as power, forgetting one OBVIOUS FACT.
The person who gives the TITLE always has more power than the person who GETS the title.
Just like the person who WRITES the 40 million dollar check for a basketball player has more power than the one who RECEIVES the check
Just like the one who SELECTS the presidential nominee has more power than the one who is CHOSEN as the presidential nominee
President Obama was NOT selected by us
He was not groomed by us
He was not vetted by us
He was not FINANCED by us
He was not elected by us
He is beholden to the people that did all the above. And that is the REAL WORLD of politics, not the promises of “change” and another chance to celebrate another ‘first black’ that suckered most of us in and made us shut off our brains and go PURE EMOTIONAL.
I’m sorry but I must be blunt here because it’s important that black people start thinking seriously about our predicament here in america.
Again, I’m saying black people KNOW the most powerful white people in the country are NOT TAKING ORDERS FROM A BLACK MAN.
The biggest clue is President Obama being PUBLICLY disrespected by pther powerful people. This is clear EVIDENCE that he does not have power over white people. Why?
Because NO one wold DARE stand up in the Senate and say to white George Bush, “You lie!”
No federal judge would EVER say that George Bush’s mother had s*x with a dog and that’s how he was born (unless he wanted to lose his job and perhaps a lot more).
No Arizona Governor (like Jan Brewer) would EVER point and wag her finger in Clinton’s face in front of the TV cameras (lest she lose that finger)
And even more telling was this article, which you can google:
“Sorry, We’re Booked, White House Tells Obamas”
“The White House has turned down a request from the family of President-elect Barack Obama to move into Blair House in early January so that his daughters can start school on Jan. 5.
The Obamas were told that Blair House, where incoming presidents usually stay in the five days before Inauguration Day, is booked in early January, a spokesperson to the Obama transition said. “We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,’ the spokesperson said. “But, there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn’t be displaced.”
—
Now, let’s be real. If any other (white) President of the United States wanted to stay at the Las Vegas MGM Grand, the Secret Service would clear an ENTIRE FLOOR and say it was ‘in the interests of national security.”
Yes, ordinary citizens can rant and rave disrespectully on the internet or sitting in front of their TV sets
but no one in POWER would EVER tolerate this kind of disrespect from his lesser peers and subordinates (like governors and federal judges).
NO ONE in power would tolerate the kind of disrespect that President Obama has endured NOT if they had the POWER to stop it.
What you believe is your choice, and we can respectfully agree to disagree.
one more thing.
Of course, President Obama’s horrific mistreatment is pure racism, no doubt
BUT
that fact that he is disrespected so publicly by people who have LESS POWER speaks volumes — meaning even if he was hated and despised by his enemies,
If he was more powerful than his enemies they would be afraid to attack him so publicly — and if they did, they’d face the full wrath of the U.S. government.
My last example was a popular white female singing group, the Dixie Chicks who blasted George Bush — a move that literally ENDED their careers.
Google them and you’ll see a perfect example of what happens when LESS powerful people attack MORE powerful people
That is what REAL POWER is made of.
Us, black folks does the same thing that white folks do in first identifying the president as a black man. His roots makes his African-American identity more valid than any American black whose roots goes back to slavery. These anti-Obama blacks maintain the mindset that were anti-M.L.King in the civil rights era, and though white folks were outright in your face racist then, I see such a similarity today that black folks under 40 find it hard to understand the continuant struggle for justice. Still these intellectual blacks and the “I made it you can to attitude” that helps maintain white supremacy is an afterthought.
personally…i did not think..he went overboard…you appeal to your demograhic…if it is hispanic..then you use…pieces of his hispanic culture/langauge ect…if it is jewish.i Irish, Italian..German….Asian…..thenyou use the appropiate message and forum…that resonates your message ..to me this is just good/solid politics…..end of story!
I WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA OR ANYONE ELSE THIS ELECTION. I have, like many, African Americans, (not Africans/Islanders), been a proud supporter of Obama…until now! This bullshit with allowing Illegal Immigrants to stay in this country has sealed my decision. There was never a doubt I would continue to pray and vote for Obama’s re-election…but not after his announcement today! He, like ALL the others have been using black folks for political gain for far too long and I will no longer waste my time. Sorry to my AFRICAN AMERICAN grandparents who fought hard, ALONGSIDE SNCC, DR KING and others in SELMA, BIRMINGHAM, TUSKEGEE, MONTGOMERY, ATLANTA, DENVER AND SO ON! I will not carry the torch forth any longer! I am tired! Tired of seeing Black folks pushed aside when another groups votes and political prowress seems to trump the very folks who fought for Rights in this country! Where the f**k were the latinos, Hispanics, Arabs, Islanders, Afircans, Asians…where the f**k where yall when we fought wars, our men were hung, our women raped and we were trated as less then human as we pushed this m**********r forth and burst open the doors for all. Your roaches and crumb feeding basterds got fat while we worked…I am DONE!
First of all, I can tell you are probably young, just by the language you choose you express yourself with. Although I applaude your “passion”, the one thing I can say is that, there is no need to express yourself like that. Your message gets lost in all that foul language. Since you are so passionate about your people, might I ask why you are so much against children who have been brought to this country by their parents having the right to contribute to society and be productive? They are only looking for the same rights that our forefathers fought for us to have. You say we have been pushed aside–I say to you we as a people have not organized and fought for a place at the table. We are no different than them in the eyes of the majority. We are all the minority. Dont be more of the same– people who run their mouths and complain and dont even try to be a part of the solution. We all know what the problems are, what do you want your President to do for you? What are you doing to help solve the problems– or are you sitting there waiting on a handout? You are tired? Tired of doing what? Imagine how tird those very same people you mentioned were from having dogs turned on them-fire hoses turned on them–being shot at– spat on– called the N-word– having their houses and churches bombed–having their friends and family lynched and dragged by trucks….im sure they were tired of carrying the torch too. But they went on, for you…someone they didnt even know. Fact is, Dr. King (according to his autopsy) had the heart muscle of a person in his 60s, and he was only 39 when he died. He was tired too. Im tired too, tired of seeing young black people on the news for murder, tired of seeing black businesses close, tired of seeing all the nice stuff on the “white” side of town and all the factories on the “black” side of town, tired of seeing our girls knocked up at 15, tired of seeing black men making money by calling black women hoes and tricks on the rap video and we ACTUALLY pay money for that, tired of us thinking that “dumb is cool and smart aint”, Tired of seeing black kids put in special education classes all because they don’t know how to act. Im tired of seeing 6 year olds that can rap an entire song and know the dance with it — but cant tell me what color my shirt is. The question is…can you do something about ANY of that? My point is — What are you proving by staying at home. You are allowing the very people you say have all the power– to keep all the power. All the people you named — they vote. They vote their people in office and those people do what they want. Look at the tea party in the election of 2010–there is all your proof. Obama couldve done more if the Democrats held control of the House. But, because black folks didnt wanna go vote for nothing, didnt have time and didnt care– the tea party idiots got control of the House and pretty much locked up the Congress. Learn from 2010– dont repeat it.
I was a strong supporter of Obama in 2008, but may stay home this time around, because he is NOT in charge of anything there. But is just a puppet on the string of all of those Jews that have him surrounded, with David Axelrod being his top boss, and sort of like the REAL President. And I keep calling for more blacks in decision-making postions, because Valerie Jarrett is the ONLY black advisor he has right around him. But even she is a flunkie for the Jews as well, and has been way before Obama came on the Chicago scene. And, of course, I do not support Jews AT ALL, because they have been dominating and bloodsucking blacks for years, and have made a forture off of us, including during slavery. So don’t expect too much if he is re-elected, accept for whatever these anti-Jesus Jews let him do. But, again, I’ll most likely be staying home on election day, because while I like him, I will NOT help keep those Jews in charge. — Rev. George Brooks
And sadly enough Preacher — it will be people like you that will keep black people where we are….sitting in the dark abyss of ignorance. Stay at home, really? Do you really think that your lack of voting will have the same power as casting your vote does? What kind of role model are you? I am a first lady, and I and my husband encourage everyone we can to vote. You like to complain (obviously) well in the unlikely even that the Republicans get the Presidency– you will feel the impact….in your wallet and in your life. All I say to you is dont complain then– you chose to sit at home? Dont complain. Dont get mad at Obama cuz of the “Jews” making money off of us. Its our own fault. We dont help support black owned business, we don’t keep the money in our own community, we have no bargaining power. We make a joke out of ourselves as a community! If we dont take us seriously then why should the Jews take us seriously? And more importantly, what are you doing to make things different in your own community? Staying at home is not the answer–in fact I would go as far as to say that a reason why Pres. Obama is catering to the hispanic community. You see an immigration rally on tv– there are many many hispanic people there. You see a black people rally — theres four old people and two stray dogs. Even Hispanic people have more bargaining power than we do. They have passion about their causes–black folks can care less. And our kids are even worse. Its a crying shame when a rapper has to tell you to go vote for someone! You are sending the wrong message by staying at home…that is a slap in the face to all those people who did die, and did have water hoses turned on them, and did have vicious german shepards turned on them in order for you to have the right to decide. You dont live in the south, so this perhaps, is not as meaningful to you as it is to me. I live in Georgia–where civil rights are still a struggle. Where the KKK is trying to adopt a highway in Union County. You wanna see what our people fought for — go to the civil rights museum in Birmingham, go to the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta. See what people endured to give you the right to vote. The KKK is not dead…they are alive and well. They don’t wear white sheets anymore– they wear black robes and are judges, they wear suits and ties and they are lawmakers, lawyers, congressmen and lobbyiers. They pass laws that are going to send us as a people back to the back of the bus, and people like you are going to let them.
Its a fake… How do I know? Because I make ads, and this is a bad fake at that. People are easily fooled.
then why hasn’t President Obama come out and said that and blamed it on someone else?
come on now…
it is really amazing how naive and ignorant so many of us are. obama got 96% of the black vote last time including mine,it will be instructive to see the percentage this year. fool me once shame on you but fool me twice it’s on me. neither obama nor mitt!the street gets my vote!
AMEN
96% of the black vote (not including mine since I voted for a black female, Cynthia McKinney who ran on the Green Party ticket) all of who
ASKED HIM FOR NOTHING other than “Just stay black, Bro!”
(how juvenile is that?)
and guess what? we GOT NOTHING
so maybe that’s why so many on this thread see nothing wrong with President Obama’s performance. They expected nothing and got nothing and see nothing wrong with nothing (i guess)
in light of that, I wanted to share this with all:
——————
Considering President Obama just vowed to STOP all deportation of ILLEGAL immigrants under the age of 30 (key word is “ILLEGAL” so isn’t this a case of the government breaking its own laws?
and that many blacks of all income and educational levels have been DISPLACED by foreign workers — including the field of engineering, nursing, medical, computer programming, hospitality industry (hotel maids and workers, restaurants, road work, etc
we should NOT be surprised to learn of the following information, featured in today’s New York Times (you can google it)
“More than half of all of African-Americans and other non-Hispanic blacks in the city who were old enough to work had no job at all this year, according to an analysis of employment data compiled by the federal Labor Department.”
When is the black man so many of you think is in charge and cares about black people going to speak on this issue?
(( crickets ))
Pardon me while I go somewhere and throw up.
The Ad is a SHAM. He is arrogant enough to assume that all blacks has his back. This is one BLACK that is endeavoring to make sure he is a ONE TERMER.
Unquestionably imagine that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to have in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries that they just don’t understand about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as outlined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , other people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
