A man pleaded guilty to this week to breaking into a church in DeKalb County and raping a woman. John Russell Carver, a 51-year old man, pleaded guilty to several charges: rape, armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and others. Carver used a knife to commit his crimes, leading Judge Asha Jackson to give him two life sentences, plus an additional 115 years in prison.
“This was an extremely violent and vicious act,” District Attorney Robert James said. “He brutally attacked and raped a woman in a local church. Hopefully this guilty plea will bring resolve for both the victim of this crime and the community affected by this monstrous act.”
On Saturday, February 26 of this year, Carver knocked on the door of the St. Timothy United Methodist Church and asked for help. A woman opened the door to help him. She was alone in the church, leading Carver to beat her, kick her in the head and rape her. The man stole the woman’s phone and later sold it at the Atlanta Underground.
He was connected to the crime with DNA evidence. He was already in jail on an unrelated charge.

Blaming God?????
We must remember that we are not in Heaven, we are living and serving God, striving to get there, and we as Christians have to take the same precautions as everyone else. We don’t know if God warned the dear lady or not. The God I know warns his own,of lurking danger, sometimes we choose not to listen, or we are not close enough to care, we choose to do what we think Jesus would do, and thus, we get in trouble, and blame God, and cause others to do the same, some admit that God did warn them. The scripture warns us that we could go through the same thing that others go through. But, he warned us that if we break the law, he has set up Officers/laws to make us pay for our misdeeds, as in the case that this man got over one hundred years for the Rape etc. It is important to read your Bible and allow God in your life, then you will understand who God is,if not you will make misguided statements like blaming God, if we notice, people that do not know God always blame God, and never blame anything on their Father the Devil.
I see! God saw the whole thing, and did nothing. Have we taken our meds today?
That man was a devil! You need to take your meds. I see you don’t believe in our Lord Jesus Christ. Just because you said that, God will be the judge. I will pray for you.
People have truly lost their minds. Breaking into churches with no regard for the fact that God is all seeing and knowing. Attacking and Raping someone; and, in a church on top of it??? Complete insanity is all I can say; and, absolutely no respect for God or His parishioners. This is nothing to play with. Drug use is no excuse. People need to rethink our consciousness. There was a time that people could leave doors unlocked, leave children outside playing, etc; and, now, one can barely walk down a street safely. If you cannot feel safe at church, where else can you? I am beyond thoroughly disappointed in people!!!!
Why didn’t this god, stop him? You mean to tell me that he allowed this man to enter his house, and violently beat, and rape a woman, and he did nothing? What was he waiting for, his morning praises, about how great he is? What kind of person, thing, or even a god, would allow something like this to happen, when they have the supreme power to stop it?

Hey moonhead yea you right..
hey moonhead, the same God that would ‘allow’ you to mock him. All of us have the power to choose. Unfortunately, some of us – like this man – make bad choices and suffer the consequences
@ Moonhead I think you’re worst off than this guy. Who or what are you to blaspheme God and challenge His decisions or what be allows to transpire on an earth He spoke into existence?
@Shedrick their is no such thing is god ,you must smoking crack..
You’ve got some nerve accusing somebody of being worse than this piece of human excrement….just because moonhead doesn’t believe in your fairy tales! Maybe you are worse off!
All I can say is that he needs to be in jail. I cannot understand how any GOD would allow this to happen.
God will have the last word!
God blessed us all with “Free Will” meaning this man did what he wanted to. God does not take away ones will just because he/they do not serve him. But he protect the one being attacked. The man could have killed the woman. Maybe, I said maybe. God allowed this so that the people of God will come to realize they must be prayed up and these are end times where as so little faith resides. Did the woman call upon the Lord? This we will never know. Did she get the opportunity to pray or call up on the Lord. The devil lives in Churches more than any place. And he’s real. I can’t answer the questions asked all I can say is Thank God for sparing her life and taking this one off the streets. He knew what he was doing and he also knew he would never be freee physically again. He was already pending sentencing.
Are you out of your mind? Seriously??
I’m glad they got him but I’m sorry for him as many women out here that he could have then he goes n a church. GOD have mercy on his soul.
In a monsterous world there will be monsterous people. I feel for both individuals. Imagine what his life must have been to drive him to that point where the thought first entered his mind. Fortunately he has been restrained not healed. As for the woman she was a sacrifice to the ills of this world. The Creator giveth and the Creator taketh, praise be the Creator. It is up to people to heal the ills of their communities.
When its all said and done, you can ask yourself and say what kind of God allows such things to happen, then one can say God will have the last say… All I know is that tbis dude aint gone make it to see Christmas… Its a rap.
What I have learned in my short 40 years on this earth is that 1. we waste our breath and energy on people who choose not to believe or try faith. No one comes to Jesus lest the Father has set them. As in the parables, some people are rocky ground where seed is wasted. 2. GOD needs no defense, especially from us who can’t even defend ourselves. His will is His own. His reasons are His own. Neither are for us to understand or need to explain. We have only to trust Him. 3. Our sense of right and wrong, justice and injustice is irrelevant to Him. We have to trust the plan even though we don’t know the plan. 4. It is interesting how people who can cry me a river with complaints about us Christians “forcing our religion down their throats”, yet they have no problem with trying to force their disbelief onto us. Can you say hypocrites? 5. This situation requires prayer from the Faithful for the woman and the man. Both are in their own personal h**l. It requires nothing from the Unfaithful as they have nothing of true value to offer. Be blessed.
he musta “raped” a white woman to get that much of a sentence.
Really?? After reading the article that is all you walk away with? Some racial garbage? You need help.
This person committed a sin and mistrust of the person he raped, and a sin before GOD. He got his just desert…LIFE…HE WILL HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO THINK ABOUT HIS UNFOREGIVABLE SIN HE COMMITTED…AMEN
This is the error most believers make. Assuming our idea of justice is comparable/equaul to thay if GOD. It is not. It isn’t for us to say what is or isn’t forgivable. That is HIS domain exclusively. It is best to stop imposing our will onto HIS. Be Blessed.
Man was given “free will” as part of his character at creation. When man used his free will to go contrary to the will of his creator this “rebellion” called sin caused man to fall from “righteousness” or right standing with God the creator. Eden had been given to mankind as a paradise for them to expand and increase. The authority over the planet was given to mankind. When they sinned it equated to hi-treason and the fallen angel was able to usurp their authority. His title is Prince of the Air(Invisible Kingdom in the atmosphere). The devine character traits of God’s omniscience(all-knowing), ominipotence(all-power)and omnipresence(all places at all times) seem to be a major factor in peoples confusion. We can all(perhaps), religious or not agree about how pitiful the rape and abuse of the victim was. But the anti-religious chatter is due to a misunderstanding of God. He is not an errand boy. Churches should have “security” on grounds, professional or volunteer. Also He will not interfer in our affairs unless we request His intervention. But few “belivers” pray from a point of “covenant authority”. That “power” we have access to through the knowledge of restoration of righteousness available through Christ. The “Title Deed” of the planet was given to Adam and Eve and they blew it. We have a chance to come back into proper relationship with God our creator through His son Jesus-Yashua Homeshia. Many churches are clueless and are in shock when “God let’s something like this happen”. But in essence “we the believers are failing to exercise our authority”. So we believers are guilty of not doing our part and taking authoritative action on all levels to exercise our dominion. To any that may be offended by my statement I offer a proverb: “Correct a wise man and you gain a friend, correct a fool and you gain an enemy”, your choice.
Any male who rapes, or hits a woman should receive the death penalty. This is just why some women DON’T trust men now. I am one of them…..dogs
I am saddened for the women this crime was imposed on.She’s hurt but god is fighting her battle and justice was handed down. The guy let the devil influence him to commit this terrible crime now the devil is turning flips and laughing at him.God will heal his child and he also will forgive and can change this man because he is all so powerful, but he must ask god for forgiveness and the woman he did this to,but most of all he must be godly sorry.God don’t put to much on us we can’t handle. He created us ,therefore he knows all about us.He have his reason.Reflect on Job in the bible.Job was a just faithful man of god,but god allowed him to suffer and be challenged by the devil so he could test job faith in him,and only to bless job with more than he had before, and remeber the devil had to ask god permission to touch job!
I for one hope the people in jail give him the same mercy he failed to give to his victim: none! He should have been given the death penalty period! Why should he be given a chance at anything when he may have scared this women for life! Dude needs to be put out of his misery and be ushered to meet his maker so no one else can become of victim of his.
