Last Friday, 5-year-old David Lundy was abducted from his home in West Windsor, New Jersey. Lundy was about to be removed from his home however after child services stepped in and decided his care takers, his aunt and grandfather, were not suitable guardians. In a desperate effort to keep his grandson with him, his 50-year-old grandfather took him from the home Friday night and went on the run. Officers finally caught up with them after they were spotted at a McDonald’s restaurant in Florence, South Carolina on Tuesday around 11:30 a.m.
The boy’s grandfather, Morris Lundy, despite his good intentions, was arrested and taken into custody. He is currently being held in Florence County Jail pending extradition. He is charged with kidnapping, interference with child custody and endangering the welfare of a child.
David Lundy was also checked over by the medical personal and was found to be in excellent condition. Even the boy’s asthma, which originally was one of the police’s major concerns, was in check. Despite what has happened, David still is taking everything well. He’s been seen talking and smiling as if nothing different has happened and he will stay under the care of the South Carolina Department of Social Services until he can be sent back to New Jersey. Once he returns to his home town, he’ll be placed in the care of the Division of Youth and Family services.
A man that loves his grandson’ He panicked & took his gr-son’ Cause most childcare places mistreat those kids and not a d**n thing be done to the ppl who work there’ I hope he gets him back and he be happy soon’
I don’t know the circumstances surrounding the child abuse but it sounds like the Grandfather had good intentions for his grandchild. Hope the courts drop the charges on him.
d**n this breaks my heart.
I thought the courts always look at family before placing a child in foster care. I for one have friends who are foster parents and don’t care one iota about those kids. It’s all anout the money! Please send this child to his grandfather; I would hate to read somewhere in an article that this beautiful green eyed baby was abused and killed while in foster care.
Instead of taking this young child from his home of love to place him with state and people he don’t know, why wouldn’t the state just give them money or housing etc to keep the family togather? If the state takes him out of his familiar space… they’re only going to place him with a family that they’re paying to keep him anyway so what difference does it really make? Exactly…none! Shame on the sate of NJ it’s easy to step over someone when they’re down but it takes a lot of character to extend your hand and help them up.
