By Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World
This week, it was reported in the New York Times that African American leaders and gay rights groups are forming alliances in the pursuit of civil rights. The gathering was likely in response to the recent backlash received by the NAACP for its support of gay marriage without consulting its membership. Chapter leaders and board members have resigned from the NAACP in protest, largely because the move has been seen as an appeasement to the Obama Administration that didn’t take the values of it’s church-going membership into serious consideration.
In response to the criticism, gay rights leaders have agreed to support Rev. Al Sharpton in his march against the controversial “stop and frisk” policy being followed by the New York City police department. The policy is responsible for the arrest of large numbers of black and latino residents of New York City, as police are stopping them without just cause. The coalition is an important one for the civil rights of New York city residents, but it is difficult to see how this is going to affect the rest of the nation.
Dr. Boyce: The New Black/Gay Civil Rights Alliance – Is It For Real?
No, I hope not. The president and others black leaders were forced into speaking on this issue which was disgraceful.
A person’s s****l orientation should be private not political.
I hope not. These so called ‘preachers’ should be ashamed.
As the President of my local branch,
I too was initially concerned. My values: God gave us the law and told us how to live and love thy neighbors. And gave us the choice to choose who we will serve. Judgement is his. We have to love them, they have to love us,
Good Christians, we have to love everybody, God uses whoever he will. We always looking at the fact that sodom and gomorrah was destroyed, that the ultimate punishment. We know this, but we often miss the example of how to live. Lot, was a man of God, HE lived among them, he and his family. The angels came to warn them to get out, Lot was accused of wanting to know the men himself, Lot offered his daughter, he was a man of God and lived among them. There was no problems with them, so they got along, “. Let the wheat and rarest grow together and I will separate it”. Not u, not me. God gave us his laws and the right to choose, all have sinned and fall short. Good Christians. The constitution guarantees equal rights for its citizens. The NAACP work to protect the rights of ALL people, including the right to.choose. That’s what we do, Divide and conquer is out and about. Stay focused. We got to keep it moving. The President has to uphold the constitution, civil rights for all. He has to uphold the office for which he was elected, don’t get it twisted. Get it together and let’s move forward, stay focused and like Nehemiah, keep it moving, till the job is done. Take no prisoners, but always ready to defend. Keep it moving. God know how we live, be good to people. Let him do the judging. That’s his job.
One other thing. Joshua and his spies were sent to scout the city and God sent them to the house of a harlot so they would be safe. For her reward, her and her household was saved. He use whom he will. We have gotten bigger and holier than the word. We need to get back in line ourselves, get the plank out of our eyes, before we pull the splinter out of someone else’s. God uses whom he will. I want to go to heaven, so I Love ya.
Just because you love them doesn’t mean you approve of the behavior, which is what homosexuality is, and trying to receive an “entitlement” for your s****l behavior is nonsense. Do not try to force people to accept things they don’t want to accept.
Rev. Al and the powerful homosexual cabal–opportunism serves opportunism.
Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Ben Jealous have no moral credibility. They are stone silent about Obama’s Kill List and the CIA attacks on the funerals of alleged militants who were killed by drones, but they have no problem standing up for the rights of a group of people who already have more economic and political influence than Afrikan Americans.
I’m grateful that Obama forced their hypocrisy out of the closet.
I pray we are not forming alliance with a group that used it’s “white privilege” to place us in a corner. I am very happy many people decided to leave the NAACP to send a message that we are not happy about being forced in alliance with gay and lesbian community. My prayer is many of these chosen leaders of color wake to see thay have been used politically to force someone else agenda. I am rwally disappointed in Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and many others that have gone along with their agenda. They meaning the gay/lesbian community has used our struggle to get their agenda to move forward. My prayer is they will awake from the fog and see this issue for what it is evil.
White privilege is the key to all of this push for equal rights by ths gay majority. Then there are black gays on the message board that were pretty much ignored by the whites gay majority, suddenly the most vocal I’ve ever seen on gay equal rights only because gay whites majority needs mainstream blacks to support their agenda. Ask the while attacking our faith. Such double mindedness.
I’m glad that blacks are leaving the NAACP,now the NAAGP, in droves because perhaps the so called black leaders will think twice before trying to throw the black community under the bus for selling out for a 30 pieces of silver as most the leaders have supporting same s*x marriage.
I’m glad our voice is being heard even though the mainstream media has censored black voices opposing supporters of gay marriage. I’ve stopped watching Rev. Al since he came out in support of gay marriage and I pray many others follow suit.
it it’s funny that the national association for the advancement of COLORED people claim to ”always” fight for same s*x relations. Oh really?
If there are anymore good Christians out there who love Jesus they should throw every pastor and minister, priest, and nun out of their churches who support same-s*x marriage and gay rights. Kick them out now! Al Sharpton should no longer be a voice for Black people’s suffering. He’s a good con-man who get his cash by using Black folks suffering. The GOP has been saying this, about him, for years! The NAACP should continue losing its black members until its withdraws its support for same-s*x marriage! They have no respect for the voices of its members anyway, for they went right over their heads as if they were no body. The NAACP have more respect for same-s*x marriage than it has for its own members. Wake up my christian brothers and sisters of all colors before Jesus loses His patients with you. You can not claim His Salvation and at the same time approve same-s*x marriage and same-s*x l**t! God doesn’t play that! Why gamble with your salvation to support sinners? Are you insane to test Jesus like that?
Agreed!!!!
I am amazed at how people on this forum are using the Bible and the names of “God” and “Jesus” to support an agenda that is purely political and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Kingdom. If you so-called Christians do not repent of your hypocrisy and your support for wickedness, you will be sent a strong delusion and be damned according to II Thessalonians 2:11, 12. This has nothing to do with being “bigger and holier than the word”, and everything to do with standing up for truth and righteousness. The Most High rebuke those of you who give the false impression that “the word” speaks favorably toward your defiled, political agenda! It would be more tolerable on the day of judgment for you to promote your wickedness upon its own merits alone rather than stamp the name of the Most High and the Messiah of Israel upon it. Repent! For the Kingdom of YAHUAH is at hand!
You know what? I’m getting real sick of hearing about not loving gay people just because a law prohibiting same-s*x marriage was passed. If gay people want to be gay; and, not consider how God feel about it, so be it. Just stop trying to force it into the faces of the rest of the nation. When murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc start requesting laws in favor of what they do, they too will have their idologies shot down. I don’t want to see anyone murder anyone on the streets anymore than I want to think about–let alone see people of the same s*x kissing and getting busier in the streets. I keep my s*x life to myself; and, in my home; where I believe everyone else should. I don’t dislike gay people; but, I don’t want to see the outlandish behaviors spreading beyond what is already too much to take. When I couldn’t even order food in a restaurant, recently, because two young male waiters were too busy sitting across the table busting slob instead of taking our order; not only was my appetite ruined, but I will no longer be visiting that establishment. Not wanting to see it is not discrimination. It is simply a matter of ‘there being a time and a place for all things’. Everybody don’t need to or want to know the details of how busy gay people can get. tone it down, and maybe it won’t seem like too much overkill.Quite frankly, I’m real sick and tired of hearing about it.
Couldn’t have been better stated. I believe all citizens should be able to leave their property to whomever they choose; love whomever they choose, but don’t call it marriage. If you don’t want to play the rules, don’t try to use the rules. Just call it a civil union and keep it out of the public’s face.
wow..thank goodness for what’s left of separation of church and state. you dont want to see ‘gay behavior/people getting busy in the street’? use the bible to defend and promote your hate and religious(definitely not spiritual) superiority? ok invisible woman; hundreds of years worse treatment of blacks during and ‘after’ slavery condoned, opportunistic misinterpretation of the very same bible. i wish more christians and everyone would study the history of all religions unbiasedly. realize that with almost six billion people living on this earth, christians are no longer the majority (thank goodness FOR THE LAWS that try to protect EVERYONES rights) there, more people for you to find difference with, hate; allow yourselves to be distracted by the same ‘issues’ every election season, divided and conquered. gays and lesbians arent going anywhere, get over it. noone’s ‘forcing you to accept anything’. and noone should accept being a secondary citizen and having less rights than YOU. gays have the same rights and protections in other ‘civilized’ nations(england, canada, europe)and have for decades. its called progress and everyone is better for it. the soldiers who risk there lives for your freedom to worship, or to rot your brains on mtv and reality tv. doctors and profesionals who work to serve you in other manners and you dont have a clue about. read some real news while you’re at it, international news. ‘worlds’where people really are fighting and dying for civil rights and journalists havnt been bought. when people are attacked/killed/lives threatened, are divided from their loved ones over s****l preference? thats when your sexuality or any other issue is MADE ‘political’ and not private. how many of you speak against the hyper-marketing of l**t/sexuality in everyday society? your kids see that too, wheres your morality/stance on that? oh, it must be ok because its HETEROsexuality. ppl comparing gays to murderers/rapists? what ignorance and fear! its sickening. and f**k what the “GOP has to say”, they wont even protect a woman’s right to equal pay! talk about that
As Christens we Love liers, fornicators, murders, child abusers etc but do we agree with their life style or will we if president Obama says it’s OK.?
as christians you see your path to heaven and salvation as preached by your pastors(“sinners” like everyone else) and put forth in the bible, so you DISAGREE with the doctrines AND culture of others, ie muslims/islam, judaism, buddism, etc. do you HATE them also? is that the lesson? who says thats “ok”? who needs your understanding or acceptance in who they choose to love, or worship, etc? you say all sins are equal but I WILL NEVER EQUATE loving someone of the same s*x with rape, murder, pedophilia, etc. everyone walking this earth has a gay relative/friend/associate/coworker/CHURCH MEMBER. if its really all the same, you should have no problem being left alone with in a room with murderer, or a rapist…go head, try it, lol. most of you are so filled with hate, YOU might be a murderer. Obama’s stance is upholding the law and rights of everyone! he’s NOT cosigning homosexuality/judgement/hate, just HUMAN RIGHTS. and i d**n sure dont agree with everything rev jackson, sharpton, or anyone says or does for that matter, but you better appreciate the strides, efforts and progress theyve made. who’s next? wheres the next generation of “leaders”? venting on blogsites/sitting on their a**?
