Bill Maher: ‘Obama Couldn’t Be Less Threatening If He Was Walking Home With Iced Tea and Skittles’

Noted journalist Kirsten West-Savali at Newsone.com mentions a comment made by Bill Maher about President Obama, comparing him to Trayvon Martin.  West-Savali feels that the remarks were a bit over the top and distasteful, as Maher compared Obama to the dead black teenager that everyone is talking about.

Normally, I’m a huge fan of comedian and political pundit Bill Maher. So much so, that I never miss one of his shows and I bought his book, “New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer,” for my family as gifts. His straight talk about the dangers of religious indoctrination, the awkward, disingenuous idiocy of most GOP politics and timid stagnation of the Democratic Party are usually spot-on. But on his HBO show, “Real Time” Friday night, I found myself, for the first time, staring at my screen in distaste.

He began his closing bit as razor-sharp as normal:

“How can you guys be so unhappy with Obama when I’m so unhappy with Obama?” said Maher in response to scripted GOP outrage over every move that the POTUS makes. “You think you got coal in your stocking? I wanted single-payer health care, a carbon emissions bill, gun control, and legalized pot. If you get to carry around all this outrage over me getting that s**t, shouldn’t I have gotten it?”

  4. “Maher compared Obama to the dead black teenager that everyone is talking about”

This is not offensive at all, assuming you believe Trayvon was innocent. Obama compared his potential son to the “dead black teenager”. Maher was right, as usual.

  5. Bill Maher is played out. I wouldn’t watch him if his show was free.He has to make super ignorant statements to stay in the limelight.Let him discuss his long love affair with “super head” the enbarrassment to Black women of decency who wrote a book on giving blow jobs. He’s a slimball of jewish decent.

    • Excuse me im a black women of decency…and i love Mahaer he is is straight on and using irony and comedy to a point Treyvon was innocent kid minding his own biz got killed…and Obama lets republicans get away with political muder. To bad for u dont get it.

      • Right on, sista!

      • That’s a horrible analogy. Treyvon was killed, and it ought not to have happened. Obama is “attacked” by Republicans because of stuff Obama actually does (or doesnt’ do); meaning there is good reason that those Republicans go after Obama, or put another way, Obama deserves it. If you haven’t noticed, a lot of black folks (virtually all democrat) have recently begun to speak out against Obama, too. Even nut-case Louis Farrakhan has lashed out against Obama, and you certainly can’t claim that Farrakhan is an Uncle Tom.

As for “political murder,” if you haven’t bothered to notice, politicians have been saying nasty stuff about each other for centuries, and Obama is the king of negative ads. Obama won his first election by going to court to get all his opponents kicked off the ballot (easy to win when you are the only person of either party on the ballot). Obama is as nasty as any politician on the block, so quit your rediculous suggestions that Obama is a victim of his opponents.

    • Vernie, you should get your facts straight, you bigot. Bill Maher’s mother is Irish Catholic, and he was raised as a Catholic. His father was a Jew. So what? His brand of humor is for people who read and who keep abreast of what is happening in the world. Too sophistocated for you? Don’t watch him; don’t read his books.

  6. This is a simple overreaction… He was actually giving credence to the fact that Trayvon was not threatening as the some idiots in America have tried to say that he was. It was a joke that some may have found distasteful but if you are that sensitive you just need to keep on living it gets worse

  12. Hey,like it or not Bill Maher deserves a standing ovation. It’s factual political comedy at it’s best. Trayvon Martin was non threatening carrying a bag of skittles and ice tea. The night he was gun down unarmed. That’s a fact…

I watched the show and no I was not offended as a viewer. It was one of the best shows of Maher’s season.

I voted for change, when I embraced the President’s policy agenda four years ago. Did I have any policies expectations when I cast my ballot? Yes! Has his change been something,I can believe in? No!

You IDIOTS would view the joke differently if your child was killed for just walking down the street.

  14. Bill Maher resembles a troll doll; he is an extreme racist for sexually sewering gullible and ignorant Black females.

  15. That was real funny! I agree. Obama, mainly because of Republican opposition, but also his Centrist wimpiness, has not done hardly any of the things he said he would, things that got him elected. Janet above sums it up best so I will quote her: “It’s factual political comedy at it’s best. I watched the show and no I was not offended as a viewer. It was one of the best shows of Maher’s season.

I voted for change, when I embraced the President’s policy agenda four years ago. Did I have any policies expectations when I cast my ballot? Yes! Has his change been something,I can believe in? No!”

  16. Talk about illiteracy. All you folk who can try to paint Pres. Obama with the same brush used in the 8 years before he took office as president.
YES! As commandeer in chief and president he has accomplished and forced thru policies that the Republicans tried to kill. Maybe your IMPORTANT issue(s) haven’t been addressed yet because he is fighting battles on all fronts against people who would, if allowed, send the 99 on a rowboat to no where. You may not want to admit it or maybe you truly do not know about him as President for whatever reason. I could list 10 changes that matter since he became President and I know there are more. Because I believe learning occurs better when it is participatory work go look it up: so, be honest and know what you are talking about. Gossip and made up fantasies belong with the republicans. Keep your eye on the Prize. There is too much at stake for verbal gamesmanship. Heck, we don’t even know you.
